"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident." (Psalm 27:1-3)
Two things constitute all our fears: things that are unknown to us, and things that are known to us and are bigger than we can handle. For those who trust the Lord, whose Savior He is, neither of these can any longer threaten.
He is our light. As such He is our knowledge and wisdom. We shall not suffer for ignorance. He will teach and inform us of all that we need to know. If we commit our works and our ways to Him, He will establish our thoughts and see that we do not make any fatal mistakes. We need not fear failure in our undertakings if such undertakings are ordered by Him. They will be successful in that they will accomplish that which He intends.
When the wicked, our enemies devise evil against us... and they will, when they come against us...and they have and they yet will, then we can be certain that our puny strength will not be our hope of salvation. He is the strength of our life. And although they may cause us some discomfort and some hardships and tribulations and setbacks, God is our Salvation. We shall not be utterly cast down.
We do not always know what our enemies are devising against us. We do not always know that they are assaulting us. Sometimes God hides their activities from us. Sometimes He reveals to us what they are doing. Both are tests of faith. In the former we are likely to fear what we do not know; in the latter we may fear what we know and see. But for those of us who do indeed trust the Lord, it matters not what the enemy may be planning or doing; it matters not how large the host is that is assembled against us. We can be confident in the Lord, and in Him will we rest.
