Christian Chen (c. 1970 – N/A) was a Chinese preacher and evangelist whose bold street ministry has made him a notable figure among Christians in China, known as the "Gospel Warrior" for his resilience despite over 100 arrests. Born around 1970 in Hengyang, Hunan Province, he grew up in a challenging environment and battled drug addiction for over a decade before his conversion to Christianity around 2000, a transformation he credits to Jesus’ saving power. Formerly imprisoned by his addiction, he began preaching after his release, often carrying a wooden cross inscribed with messages like “Glory to our Savior” and “Repent and be Saved by Faith,” sharing the gospel across China’s streets. Chen’s preaching career has been marked by relentless evangelism, traveling to provinces like Yunnan and Tibet, and even Vietnam—where he was arrested and deported—despite frequent detentions by Chinese authorities, including a significant 19-month prison sentence in 2023 for “organizing and funding illegal gatherings.” His ministry, rooted in personal testimony, extends to distributing gospel tracts and preaching to police and officials during arrests, earning recognition from groups like ChinaAid and International Christian Concern. Accompanied at times by his 84-year-old mother, who shared tracts alongside him, he faced surveillance and fines, yet persisted with a smile, saying, “Jesus loves you,” to his captors. Married with a family, though details are private, he remains a symbol of unwavering faith under persecution from Hengyang.
