The sermon emphasizes the importance of hiding the Word of God in one's heart to avoid sinning against God and maintain fellowship with Him.
Brent Yim delves into the profound truth that the human heart, in its fallen state, is a deep abyss of moral darkness that leads to a lifestyle contrary to God's righteousness. Jesus confirms this by highlighting that evil actions stem from the corrupt heart. The root cause of humanity's separation from God lies in the sinful condition of the heart, surpassing mere external behaviors. The psalmist reveals that the remedy to this eternal chasm is found in hiding God's Word in the heart, which has the power to transform and prevent sin, restoring fellowship with God. Those who cherish this truth strive to keep God's Word in their hearts to maintain intimacy with their Savior and avoid transgressions.
Text
"Your Word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You."
The human heart, in its fallen condition, is an unending abyss of moral darkness and corruption which, in return, motivates a lifestyle that is directly opposed to God's righteous standard. Jesus affirmed this Biblical revelation when He asserted, "What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. All these things come from within and defile a man."
According to the eternal Son of God, the immoral behavior of humanity is merely a reflection of the immoral condition of the human heart which, consequently, is the basis of humanity's separation from God. Human behavior, which has often been the primary focus of reformation, is incidental in contrast to the deeper crisis of the condition of the depraved human heart.
Yet the psalmist, through Spirit-inspired revelation, discloses the remedy to the inescapable plague that has formed an eternal chasm between God and man - the quickening power of the Word of God. He had personally experienced that the Word of God, being living and powerful, possessed the capability to renovate and restrain the sinful tendencies of the human heart, thereby restoring fellowship between a holy God and unholy man.
For those who have come to know this truth and, in return, enjoy a heavenly intimacy with their Savior by grace through faith, there is nothing more frightening than the thought of that intimacy being interrupted due to unrestrained transgression. Therefore, being aware of the consequences of their choices, they, like the psalmist, have purposed to hide the Word of God in their heart that they might not sin against God.
