The sermon highlights the problem of pollution, both physical and spiritual, and offers the precious blood of Jesus as the solution to this corruption.
Bernard Fell preaches about the pervasive nature of pollution, both physical and moral, highlighting how pollution contaminates the environment and corrupts society through various means like printed obscenities. He draws parallels to the spiritual pollution inherited from Adam's sin, emphasizing that all are tainted by sin and in need of redemption. However, he offers hope in the cleansing power of Jesus' blood, which can purify hearts and souls, allowing individuals to partake in the purity of heaven where no pollutants exist.
Text
How canst thou say,
I am not polluted?
Jeremiah 2:23
Great the monster called Pollution,
With its creeping stranglehold,
Filling air, lakes, streams, and rivers
With its poisonous germs untold.
'Tis a great obnoxious killer,
This grave menace to mankind,
Belching forth its fumes wherever
Man's inventions one may find.
There's another spreading evil,
Deadly in the printed page;
Many battles 'gainst this traffic
Decent-minded people wage.
Publishers and pedlars flourish
By the obscene paperback,
With the censor's eyes fast closing,
And the hand of justice slack.
In a world by sin corrupted,
To be judged one day by fire,
"Who can say, I'm not polluted?"
Cried the prophet Jeremiah.
All inherit Adam's nature,
None his brother can redeem;
If the source hath been infected,
So must also be the stream.
O the precious blood of Jesus!
Cleansing in its healing flow;
Making hearts by sin benighted,
Whiter than the driven snow.
Safely drink life's crystal waters;
Deeply breathe heav'n's purest air;
Know that in the realms celestial
No pollutants enter there!
