Your Savior Has Come

God lives and works today, but perhaps you think sadly. Maybe others can experience and testify to his reality, but it's too late for me. My life has been wasted.

I've made a mess of it, and now it's too late. If these are your thoughts and you're on the verge of despair, listen to the following meditation by Basilia Schlink called, Your Savior Has Come. We have a doctor who is very skilled and actually has more than enough patients.

However, if one of our sisters were sick and we took her to someone else just to save this doctor extra work, he would be really hurt. For to him, practicing medicine is not just a profession, but an honor and an expression of his concern. He loves to have sick people come to him and to be able to help them.

This is just a human illustration, but with our Lord Jesus, helping is even more directly a passion. He longs to be able to help us, to pull us out of our sins and to set our lives in order again. When the powers of darkness grip our lives, then Jesus reaches down with a mighty hand and pulls us out of the abyss.

This is Jesus' life and joy, to find people whom he can deliver. Who can comprehend the wonder of it? We have someone whose name is Jesus, whose sole interest is to save and deliver us. He is standing directly beside us, and the moment we fall into sin, he reaches out his hand to pull us out.

This is his entire nature, and it is his great joy to be able to help us. Why? He wants to have us at his side in his kingdom of divine life, to live with him in peace and joy. If a lifeguard safely rescues a drowning person, he may receive a medal.

In any case, he is showered with love and gratitude from the person he rescued. But what about our Lord Jesus? We can bring him no greater joy than by calling out, reaching out our arms to him for help as soon as we have fallen again into the river of sin. Oh, if only we would believe it.

Every time that we fall, Jesus is standing next to us. Every time. And with infinite patience, he reaches down to lift us out.

Therefore, he must be praised, worshipped, and loved. Jesus has come to save and to make us happy. I trust in your great might.

Jesus, you are the victor. For me, you won the battle. Hallelujah.

Jesus, Lord of every sovereign, God's son forevermore. Jesus, so high exalted, your victory we adore. Hallelujah.
