Where We Look is Decisive

God lives and works today, and in His great love He has prepared an eternal, imperishable home for us, for after these brief years on earth. Do you find it hard to believe this? It's true. However, this home can only be ours under one condition, as today's program by Basilea Schlink will explain.

When a minister preaches a sermon about prayer or living a life of faith, many Christians understand with no trouble at all. But when they hear about the Kingdom of Heaven, suddenly the topic seems very foreign. They just can't relate to the reality of Heaven.

And yet, whoever doesn't already live in the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth won't all of a sudden be able to adjust and feel at home there when he dies. Perhaps this story will illustrate the point. A servant had been sent to work away from his master's land for a few weeks.

When he returned, he was informed that his master had gone to Heaven. The servant replied, That can't be true. Always when he has a trip planned, everybody knows about it for weeks in advance.

He never even mentioned Heaven. Never made any preparations for that. Therefore he couldn't have gone there.

Although his words were simple, the servant spoke the truth. How could someone expect to be at home in Heaven if he's made no preparations for Heaven here on earth? If he hasn't already been living in the Kingdom of Heaven? Therefore it's decisive that we not only look forward to Heaven, but also begin to journey towards it now. I must confess that several years ago, I didn't know either what it meant to live in eternity.

When I read Revelation chapter 21 and 22, I was always amazed. But it was never actually a reality that could determine and change my life. However, ever since the heavenly world has drawn near to me, my life has been completely renewed.

A great joy and happiness has entered it. For example, when one is living in eternity and confronted with humiliations and suffering, then one has the triumphant sensation, I only have to endure for a certain length of time. Then all the pain will subside.

Joy and delight will captivate me for all eternity. And then how small and transient the sufferings of this world will seem in comparison to the eternal glory. Therefore, anyone who places too much importance on this earthly life, with all its suffering, is really missing something.

The heavenly world is not a reality for him. These years on earth are the very shortest. They can't compare at all with the years above when we will live from one eternity to the next.

Therefore, may we never lose sight of this glorious goal. May we never lose sight of this glorious goal. My heart, O Father, yearns, so hope whatever turns.
