God lives and works today. He is a mighty and powerful King, and He shares His power with us. How does He do that? By sharing Himself in His only Son, Jesus Christ.
Today's meditation by Vassily Shlink tells what it means to have faith in Jesus. Let's look at our Lord Jesus and see Him as He really is. Jesus, the One who commanded the wind and the sea, and all was calm.
Jesus, it is He who commanded the powers of darkness to go, and they went. He laid His hands on the sick, and they were healed. He called to the dead, and they came to life again.
Yes, it's Jesus whom the grave could not hold. Jesus, the Conqueror, the Risen One, who broke triumphantly out of the tomb. How great is the power and the glory of Jesus Christ, the Lamb that stands before the throne.
He alone can disarm all the powers of hell, and loosen all the bonds of sin. When we call upon the name of Jesus, the name of the Almighty Lord, the Conqueror of sin and death, the Lord over sickness and over all the powers of nature, something must happen. For in this name alone is all power given.
Yes, when we call upon this name, which is above all names, the name at which every knee shall bow, rocks shall be rent, the sick will be raised up, hardened hearts will be melted, and the powers of nature will be overcome. In heaven, when the angels and holy ones call upon the name of Jesus, all of heaven trembles with joy. For His is the name of the Redeemer of the whole world.
He alone has brought salvation and life. He's the one who brings blessing. All heaven resounds with this name.
At the sound of His name, hell trembles and must release its prey. One name there is, one name in earth and heaven, one and all. This name is now the key to paradise and gates of hell.
Yes, in this name dwells all the power of redemption. But do we really believe it? Or do we only acknowledge Jesus as Redeemer without really believing in Him? When we consider His nature, can it still be hard for us to believe? Let's gaze upon Him in His conquering power as the Risen One, the Lamb of God who called out from the cross, It is finished. Yes, it is finished, the redemption of mankind, the redemption from all sin.
Oh, that we would see Him as our Savior, who today still heals the sick, who still brings joy to the sad. Jesus, full of majesty and power, to Him is given all power in heaven and on earth. If only we would utter this name in faith, then we would experience the promised redemption.
Jesus Christ, the victor's name, every knee shall bend before you. Seated on the heavenly throne, all creation shall adore you. For your name such power wields, only triumph victory yields.
