When God Fights for Us

God lives and works today. We see this in many different ways in our lives, but especially in the fact that He fights for His children and stands up for them whenever they have been treated unjustly. God often sees our situation from a different perspective than we do, and so He deals out justice differently than we hope and think.

However, He will defend us, but under a certain condition, as today's testimony from Basilea Schlink will explain. When I was 30, I discovered for the first time what it means to follow Jesus, to go the way of the Lamb. I had been a Christian for a long time, but I had never really followed the Lamb, not in the small details of daily life.

For this means that we must be prepared to give up our demands and rights, to suffer injustice when someone makes an unfair demand upon us, or we are treated unjustly. I experienced that this is the royal and blessed way of Jesus, and it is the way to peace. It is also the way by which we can be a blessing for others.

Twenty years later, I was allowed to write the spiritual guidelines for all the friends of our little land of Canaan. One of these guidelines says, you do not build the kingdom of God when you stand to defend your rights. In doing so, you destroy the kingdom of God.

Disputing and arguing are the enemies of the kingdom of God and Christ. Choose peace, even at the expense of your rights, and you will be God's friend. Once, a woman who was supposed to receive a great portion of the family inheritance freely gave up her share in the will for the sake of the family peace.

She could have used the money for a definite purpose in the Lord's work, but it was very clear to her that she should not force her claim to the inheritance, because it would have caused quarreling and commotion among the members of the family. However, through this, she experienced that not only the family peace was maintained, the other members of the family who were far away from the Lord were deeply moved by her reaction and were won over for the Lord Jesus. When we don't seek to avenge ourselves or fight for our rights, then the Lord will take up our cause and fight for us.

Jesus tells us in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5-7, Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Who will choose this way? It is the only way that leads to the throne, the way of the cross, the way of the Lamb. Let me, Lord, go along with you, both joy and sorrow share with you, close at your side forever.

Let me bear every grief and cross, give my whole self to death and loss, so that I'm with you, Jesus. Your instrument I long to be, Lord, transmit melody from me, whatever you will I say. 85028-4099.
