Teach Us to Love You

God lives and works today. He has created and redeemed us that we might love and be loved by Him. Yes, He has granted us sinners the privilege of loving Him out of repentance and gratitude for His forgiveness.

Oh, if we only would respond to His love, He would make us happier than we have ever dreamed of being. Today's meditation by Basilea Schlink called Teach Us to Love You will show us how we can learn to do this. Who really loves Jesus today? In whose life is love for Jesus the impelling motivation? Is this love in your life? The ever-present Jesus is waiting for this love today.

For we are created in the image of God, who is love, and we are redeemed through our Lord Jesus Christ from our bondage to self, freed that we might be able to love Him. The first commandment is, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6. Our most precious treasure must be Jesus.

Truly, He should be more precious to us than anyone else whom we love. If we love Him, our greatest joy will be to spend our time with Him. And yet, how often our faith doesn't even accept the fact that Jesus truly longs for us with such great love.

Oh, that we might believe that He is love, and that in love He is waiting until we are ready to return His love with ours. He's waiting for us to consecrate our lives to Him, to spend time with Him. If only we would believe that He, the living Christ, is speaking to us personally today.

Lo, I am with you always, as it says in Matthew 28. Yes, Jesus is alive, and He rejoices to hear us sing a song of praise, or to speak a word of love and adoration. He rejoices so much when we enter into conversation with Him about the things that concern Him so deeply, His kingdom and the salvation of souls.

Yes, Jesus rejoices when we surrender ourselves to Him anew and make ourselves available to Him, with our time, our money, and everything we have and are. He rejoices whenever we ask Him, What do You desire from me? How can I serve You? How can I fulfill the desires of Your heart? May the Holy Spirit grant us the eyes to see how Jesus is going from door to door, from heart to heart, from one believer to the next, seeking an entrance. Will you let Him into your heart anew today? Will you love Him? He is waiting for you.

To see whom I love, whom I live for. For the one with Him that I have, I will give Him. I'll sacrifice all I hold dear.
