Overcoming the Future

God lives and works today. Many people all over the world can testify to His reality and about how He has helped them in wonderful ways. But perhaps you haven't experienced His help.

Are you oppressed by cares and worries? Do concerns about the future torment you and leave you no rest? Then listen to the joyful news of today's meditation by Basilea Schlink called Overcoming the Future. The Lord will be your everlasting light, and the Lord will be your glory. Isaiah chapter 60.

What a marvelous promise for the days of darkness which are rapidly approaching us. Our Lord Jesus wants to be our entire light and love. When all is dark and somber, Jesus wants to illumine our hearts like the midday sun, strong and brilliant.

Therefore, how important it is that today we learn to resist all worries and anxieties that try to pervade our innermost being. When the spirit of anxiety eats its way into our hearts, Jesus has to be expelled, and with Him, all joy and serenity. Therefore, today we must learn to overcome all worries and cares.

In my life, I have often had to undergo unpleasant experiences. In such a large work, there are always troubles and difficulties or disappointments. In people in whom one has placed their trust and confidence, each time I would become very upset and depressed.

But then, the Lord revealed to me the sinfulness of this attitude. Whenever we allow difficulties, cares, and afflictions to dominate us, they quench our joy in the Lord. This discovery sparked off a reaction in my heart.

I made a firm resolution and declared, Jesus, I'm not going to grieve you anymore by letting my troubles depress me. From that time onwards, I conceived a genuine hatred for anything that tried to disturb the peace in my heart. I would call upon the name of Jesus and say aloud, I'm not going to let any trouble or worry get the better of me.

Jesus is Lord. Or, I would sing a song declaring who Jesus is and proclaiming His victory. But victory is only achieved by continual practice.

We have to keep constant guard that our trials, our sorrows, and problems do not defeat us. As soon as we notice the threatening white-crested waves begin to mount above us, then we should lift up our voices and call upon Jesus. Jesus wants to come into our hearts as the midday sun, powerful and undiminished.

His light is stronger than all darkness, all horror that might await us in the future. Therefore, let us pray that He deliver us now from our bondages to earthly concerns, difficulties, anxiety, or our work, or whatever they may be. He will loosen these chains and set us free.

Let all our trust and security be found in Him. Jesus, You are my Redeemer. I trust in Your great might.
