New Divine Life – but How?

God lives and works today. He has the power to change lives and nations. But perhaps you're wondering, if that's really true, why can't I see Him at work in the world today? Why doesn't He help me out of all my problems and difficulties? I pray but I never seem to get an answer.

The following program by Basilea Schlink will tell us how we can actually experience His help. Why am I so often depressed and laden with cares? Why is it so often that my prayers seem to rise no further than the ceiling and the atmosphere lies heavily like a thick blanket? I found from my own experience that it was because I was lacking divine life. We become so taken up with the difficulties, worries, and discord we have encountered in life at home and at work that the divine life, the life that comes from God, has no room in us.

But when Jesus has become our true life and we have been plugged into the life current of God, then this life is more powerful than anything else. How can I obtain this life from God? The answer is simple. According to how much we let go of and give away that which makes up our human life, to that extent we receive divine life.

For example, if a Christian doesn't give up his rights in this or that matter or sever a wrong relationship to a person, then the divine stream of life is already barred to him. When Jesus declares to us, whoever loses his life, then he's referring to all that makes up our life, everything that captivates our thoughts, that stimulates us spiritually, mentally, or emotionally, everything that distracts us from prayer, everything we fear we might lose one day. Whoever does not renounce all that he has, here Jesus' challenge is meant to be taken literally.

Nothing should captivate him who desires to be captivated by Jesus alone. Yes, blessed is he who responds to this call of Jesus. He will discover that his empty hands will be filled to overflowing.

To this I can testify from my own life when I dare to make this leap. With what longing Jesus waits for people upon whom he can bestow his divine life. Right now Jesus is standing before us and he says, pray for this divine life.

You shall receive it if you give away all that has filled your hands previously. How rich, how deeply satisfying this divine life can make you, the life that comes from Jesus. If you believe in him, then as the Bible says, streams of living water shall flow forth from you into your family and to the place where you work.

So lose, forsake your life and that which constitutes it and makes it worthwhile. Break off wrong attachments to people, work, possessions, and things. And you shall receive the present of divine life.

You shall win the abundance and the wealth of a fulfilled life, trusting in God and working in his strength. Let my whole life be self-offering. This precious grace grant me, O Lord.
