God lives and works today. His power is stronger than every sin and bondage. Today's meditation by Basilia Schlink shares the true testimony of a woman who experienced Jesus' victory over the life of her alcoholic husband.
An evangelist once shared the following experience. Every year he would hold meetings in a certain city. There he met a cleaning woman whose husband was an alcoholic and who mistreated her terribly.
Every time the evangelist saw her he would ask, how are things going with your husband? And for years she had to give him the same answer, there's no change at all. But what surprised the evangelist was that even after 4, 6, 8, and 10 years she always added, firmly convinced, but Jesus will be victorious. And then she would show him her pin, which she wore as a sign of her faith.
On it was the inscription, Jesus is victor. After 13 years, when the evangelist came to the city again, he asked the woman once more about her husband. This time she replied, Jesus is victor.
My husband is completely changed. One day he came up to me and asked, tell me, where do you get the strength to put up with me so long? When I answered, through Jesus alone, he suddenly said, I want to go the way of Jesus with you. His faith grew deep and strong and he became free from his bondages.
It is only one who has such might. It is Jesus who once won the fight. And Satan's coward defeated.
And still he puts the foe to flight. And takes from Satan every right. Our living blood.
This woman's experience is a challenge to us. Don't we also have bondages of sin? Where is our steadfast faith? Do we pray ever anew, Jesus is victor? Have we completely committed ourselves to all of God's ways of chastisement so that Jesus' victory can be seen in our lives? How often do we want to give up the fight against our own sins? Or give up praying for other people who are difficult to bear? Or who have heavy burdens? The experience of this woman teaches us something very important. That there is power in steadfast faith.
Through her faith, she not only conquered the strongholds of darkness that had bound her husband, but also endless streams of blessing were sent forth from her life to others without her knowing it. Yes, this cleaning woman's life is a call to us. Do not get tired of claiming in faith the victory of Jesus.
For Jesus is victor. I have no blessing enough. Rejoice, your triumph is now mine.
