I Am Waiting for You

God lives and works today. In His love, He longs to share Himself completely with us, to live within us. This brings Him and us the greatest joy imaginable, and it's the way to a really happy life.

But when and how can God draw near to us and dwell completely in our hearts? Listen to today's program by Basilea Schlink. Many visitors who have come to our land of Canaan for a few days of retreat have told us that the best day was their quiet day, a day which they spent entirely in quiet with the Lord. The first surprise on such a day comes when they open their door in the morning and find a small streamer bearing the words, I am waiting for you.

Many of them then realize for the first time, I am not primarily the one who has been longing for this encounter. No, it is Jesus who has been yearning for me. This fact, that Jesus longs to have fellowship with us, was emphasized during the first years of our sisterhood.

When the first stage of our building was finished, we lived together in very cramped quarters in our mother house. The number of occupants was based on the available space, not by the need for quiet. It certainly helped us to learn how to get along with each other.

But there was a growing desire for a prayer closet. Our mothers prayed about this, and the Lord gave them the certainty that this too was His will. For Jesus Himself had said in Matthew 6, verse 6, When you pray, go into your room and shut the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.

And so we began to build an extension to the mother house, with only small single rooms. Everything about this second stage of our building project made a deep impression upon us. We have had several building projects before and since, but this was the only one where the money just rolled in to cover all the costs, without our having to fight special battles of faith.

We had never experienced this before, how hard our faith had been tested during the first construction period. Now it seemed as though this extension, with its small single rooms, was especially pleasing to the Lord. It was like a dream.

We will never forget the day we moved in. In each room beneath the cross on the wall, Mother Basilea had placed a streamer with the words, I am waiting for you. Yes, Jesus really does wait for us.

And so, Jesus asks us to in this hour, let all else be silent, so that I may speak. My love can satisfy you if you give me a chance. For none can be loved as is Jesus.

None like him is found anywhere. Jesus, whom I love, whom I live for. So all that I have, I will give him.

I'll sacrifice all I hold dear. My whole life to Jesus belonging. My heart seeks my love to reveal.
