How God Strengthens U

God lives and works today. He is a loving Father who truly cares for His children. And it is His great joy to be able to strengthen them by letting them experience His miracles.

Today's program by Basil E. Schlink is a testimony about how we can experience this fatherly side of the love of God. Several years ago, we received a cow through the goodness of our Heavenly Father. The cow thrived, but she had a tremendous appetite.

Our lawns were soon eaten up. And then suddenly we were in real trouble because a great heat wave set in. Everything dried up.

The little grass which was left turned brown. And we had no money to buy any fodder. Our garden sisters scoured the edges of the forest and roadsides for little patches of grass.

All of us prayed to our Heavenly Father, imploring Him. He who hears the cries of the young ravens would also help us to find food for our cow. One day, Sister Agate went out to mow some of the dried up grass on the meadows of Canaan.

She wondered whether the cow would be able to eat it. A farmer drove by in his wagon, and he very likely wondered about it too. As he told us later, a little further on, a woman stopped him and asked whether he knew anyone who would cut the grass in her large fruit orchard.

The next day, the farmer came and told us about the offer, and Sister Agate could hardly contain her joy. From all of us there arose a chorus of thanksgiving to a Father who so cares for His children. We were not only able to harvest enough grass for our immediate need, but also for the whole winter, and it was all free.

This experience greatly encouraged our faith in regard to all the needs of our garden and animals. Even in those days, one could read in the papers about the growing stockpiles of atomic weapons, and about nuclear testing and its devastating effects on nature. A war is a terrible prospect in itself.

But the experts went on to say that even more dreadful would be the starvation of those who climb out of their bomb shelters into a desert where nothing will grow because of the deadly atomic fallout. This is enough to strike fear into any person's heart. But in contrast to this fear, we have the great comfort and consolation of our daily experiences with the living God and His miracles.

Even in times of disaster, when every source of nourishment has been exhausted, God is still a Father of love. It is His nature to perform miracles. He can make water spring up in a desert, or even feed us with manna if we believe in Him and ask Him like trusting children.

Therefore, be thankful if God leads you along ways of faith and prayer, for along such ways you may experience His help and miracles. Only when all human possibilities have been exhausted can you begin to reckon that God will intervene and work His miracles.
