Consider Jesus

The sermon emphasizes the importance of a deeper understanding of Christ's nature and work for a life of faith and obedience.
Andrew Murray emphasizes the importance of considering Jesus as the central figure of the Epistle to the Hebrews. He points out that the Hebrews' spiritual weakness and potential to miss God's promises stem from their lack of understanding of the perfect redemption offered through Christ. By recognizing Jesus as their compassionate and Almighty High Priest, believers can align their lives with their faith and the will of God. Murray highlights that Jesus, being greater than the angels, provides a more profound and effective support for those who trust in Him. Ultimately, knowing Christ deeply transforms the believer's life and faith.

Text

Consider Jesus: these words may be taken as the motto of the Epistle to the Hebrews. The weakness of the Christian living which the writer saw among the Hebrews and their danger of missing God's promises through unbelief and disobedience was due to their ignorance of the real nature of the perfect redemption which had been offered to them in the gospel. If they could only know Christ Jesus and what he could do for them as their compassionate, Faithful, Almighty High Priest, then their living would be in perfect correspondence with their beliefs and with the will of the Savior whom they would then truly know.

As the Son of God he is greater than the angels; how much more effective will be what he is and does for those who trust him than all that the angels did for God's saints in times gone by. Consider Jesus the Mighty God.
