Manley Beasley

Manley Beasley (1932–1990). Born in 1932, Manley Beasley faced a turbulent childhood, struggling with dyslexia and rebellion, dropping out of school in seventh grade, and joining the Merchant Marines at 15 by falsifying his age. Converted at 18, he became a Southern Baptist evangelist renowned for preaching on faith, prayer, and revival. In 1970, diagnosed with multiple terminal illnesses, including kidney disease, he continued a global ministry while enduring dialysis three times weekly, inspiring thousands with his trust in God amid suffering. His books, including The Manley Beasley Reader, Living By Faith, and How To Live a Victorious Christian Life, distilled his teachings on resilient faith. Beasley served as president of the Southern Baptist Evangelists and Texas Baptist Evangelists, shaping evangelical circles. Married to Marthe, he had four children, two of whom became ministers, and five grandchildren. His ministry emphasized God’s faithfulness, impacting audiences worldwide until his death from kidney disease on July 9, 1990, in Dallas, Texas. Beasley declared, “Faith is not a leap in the dark; it is a step into the light of God’s Word.”

Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher discusses the laws that operate in the universe and how they affect our behavior. He emphasizes that we don't have to do anything to lose our temper or be wrong because it is a natural law at work within us. The preacher then refers to a passage in 1 John 4:17, which states that as God is, so are we in this world. He highlights the importance of believing in this truth and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us. The sermon concludes with a discussion on the law of the spirit of life and how it sets us free from the law of sin and death, as mentioned in Romans 8:2.
Sermon Transcription
This is the Inceptive of Romans. I follow his lecture this morning, that we have a Savior to benefit. And Father, we thank you this morning that that Savior is able to make himself real to us in all of our circumstances. And Lord, as we wait on you today with this congregation, we know that there is no life apart from you. And Father, we are waiting on the life of Jesus, the manifestation of death. And I want to praise those lives. And now, Father, even control the atmosphere today. And Father, have hope and see the glory. And Father, we know that your ways are not our ways. Our ways are not your ways. And Father, you don't have to conform it. And Father, many times we're so ignorant of your ways that we're not even willing to cooperate. So Father, in this life, we look to you to work in us this morning. That which is necessary, whether we realize it or not, to carry on and do what you want us to do. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray and for thy sake, Lord, we ask that you pray. Amen. In these morning services, I've really just been talking to you about God's provisions and realities. Because we do have to have some kind of understanding of the provisions of the Lord. This gives us information whereby the Holy Spirit can give us revelation. There's a sequence by which most people have to experience the reality of God. And one is desperation, which is a need. And the other, then, is after desperation, a need, is there. Then there is revelation. And then after revelation comes appropriation. And then after appropriation comes a demonstration. And this is really the sequence of action in the Bible. It seems that all of the saints of God were truly coming to become drastic needs in our lives by some means with revelation. And revelation is nothing but the truth of God made real to you. And then after, when you get revelation, then there is a appropriation, which is an act of faith. And then after that, an act of faith comes a demonstration from God. And this is so beautifully put in the Bible. And I want you to, you folks, to pray, especially for me. These next few days, I have been asked by Broglin Press to write a book on faith. It is almost completed. Next week we're supposed to finish it. I deal with the subject of faith constantly, all the way through it. And, of course, one of the things, one chapter in it, is the progression of faith from all of these steps. It's supposed to be next week. And you pray that the Lord will pick this book. But in that, in watching that closely, this progression, and your need, and if you ever see that your need is able to really help you out. And this morning, I'm just amazed to say, from the law, we meet this. I came with this through one of my favorite sins, where I went into this. Here is our love, and it's what He's worth, and He is, so are we, in this world. Oh my, when you think about that this morning, I just think with you for a few minutes, and what I'm doing. Getting your attention, I believe, I pray, and I pray the Holy Spirit will be more than just your kitchen, on the truth. He is, and He does not say, and He will be, but He is. Now you think something beautiful, now you go back to the light, and we are, we see Him, we think that we're taught as He was, and we are. You say, Brother Man, I need to tell you, I got a soul, regardless of what you are, whether you believe it or not. And then when you see, and believe it's so, it means you have a soul. There's another verse like this, that our old man is crucified. Your old man, or you say, Brother Man, in my personal daily experience, my old man is not crucified, dead, with Christ. Well, that may be true in your daily experience, but in the Bible, it's true. And when you see you agree with the Bible, by the act of faith, then it becomes true in you. And a lot of my preachers preached the dual nature message, and said, well, we have two natures, the old and the new. They shut it down too quick. They said, well, and it's a true story about the old Indian, he said that he had two dogs fighting, the black one and the white one. Someone asked him, two dogs fighting, a black one and a white one. Someone said, well, which one wins? He said, the one I say, kick them to. Well, that may be a beautiful story. Now, you do have two natures within you. You did not get the old nature, but it does teach death of the old man. When you believe it so, actively believe it so. Now, remember, I'm using this believing in the content. When you believe it so, it is so, but when you seek to actively believe it so, it's not. So it's very beautifully put, if you just see what I'm trying to say. That is this, that our old man is crucified. You get in a good revival, maybe for a few weeks. Until you learn that this old man, this old man is crucified with Christ. On that basis, that you'll never have what you consider a consistent revival. Because you see, you just keep one nature. And so here you go. And here you are, your old nature, here. And after a few weeks, you raise it back up. Now, as long as you actively believe that the old man is crucified, God, by his grace, holds that old man. Now, your sense world, your involvement every day, tell me now, which one are you going to do? Are you going to take God at his word? Or are you going to take the sense world at its manifestation, you can believe in? Now, which one are you going to go with? As I said the other morning, the issue is, which one is real truth? Well, that's had me so on the conviction this week, I haven't messed it at all. I mean, the Lord has just really said, Now, son, which one will you believe is true? And here's what he said here, As so are we. Where? In the world of God? No, he's been telling right in this world. Now, I usually put the whole sermon on this, and I'm not this morning. But there's a beautiful outline, As he is, so are we. I'm not waiting till I get to heaven. What else is he? What is he this morning? He's seated in the heavenly places. He's overcoming. He's fixing. He's seated in the heavenly places. What else is he this morning? Well, as he is today, so are you. But it's still true, because the Bible says so. Now, which one will you believe? Which one will you believe? You see, John 1 John 4 says, You are of God, little children, because He didn't say you're going to overcome, he said you have overcome. He said you're already overcomers. He said, brother man, I'm not an overcomer. He said, you don't know it, you aren't. But if you ever know you are, then you are. You see, this is why I can't agree with Pentecostal folks who say, You ought to fix the baptismal. You're down to pray for the baptism. Excuse me, isn't it? To pray would be the same identical prayer as to pray for God and make the whole plan of redemption. It's foolish for him to do that. It's foolish for you to pray that, because he's already done that. What you need is a lost sinner. It's already settled. Show your will open to Him. God will do something for you. You just open your will, my dear friend. And boys, they tell you to take a brick band or something over their head to even get them to wake up even more, God. You can do more than that or anything. I'm just simply saying, folks, it's unwise to conceal truth, the truth of God. And the Bible says, As He is, so are we in Him. Will you believe your senses, or will you believe God's word? If you believe your senses, you'll stay in defeat. If you take God and His word and believe, act on His word, then my friend, you are going to have this experience to become the spirit of life. To walk after the Father, to set up a law of the spirit of life, or what the law could not learn, to set up a law. And these laws operate. You don't have to do anything to lose your temper. Just let yourself go. Let yourself go. Lose your temper. Just let yourself go, and you'll just naturally, do you know why? Because there is a lot working in you. I have a watch here. Turn that watch loose. That watch is operating under a law. The law of God. I don't have to throw it down. I can just turn it loose. And that law will just put it down. It's just natural, as natural as it can be. It's an absolute law. Now every man, woman, boy, and girl in this world, has the law of sin and death in their body. And my dear friend, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, did not only come and die on the cross of Calvary to pay the price that you might be set free from that law of sin and death. That's not all Jesus did. The dying on the cross of Calvary was the price that was paid, not the procedure that was made. He died on the cross of Calvary, beloved, to pay the price of sin for the wages of sin and death. But the gift of God is eternal life, not heaven, hell, and in heaven. What the law cannot do, you see, you read that again, it says Jesus came down in human flesh. And not only did he die on the cross to pay the price, but he died on the cross and was resurrected in order to overcome the law of sin and the law of death, whereby right now you can stand without any condemnation by the law, any condemnation by God. You can stand before God as perfect as Jesus, through the blood of Jesus Christ. And that's saying something. Now, here's what I want you to see, that every one of us this morning that's been saved by the grace of God, whether you are experiencing it or not, you have the law of life in Christ Jesus in you. Now you know you've been paid for and your sins are forgiven and you're on the road to heaven. You do not know for just one purpose, for any reason, but that law is there to protect you from sinning. For a sin could be an exception. If we sin, if we sin, of course if a man says he's a budget, and then not only that, there's a law not only where we have victory over sin, but this law is there to operate to give us victory over death. It means that right now you've got a dead body on you. Oh, this is man that I am who shall deliver me from this body. You see, your body, as far as God is concerned, he's going to deliver that earthen body and give it daily life. The law of the spirit. When you got saved by the grace of God, because of the Lamb, you've got the life, the law of life, and he's working in you this morning. Now, you may not be giving, you may not be having victory over sin and over condemnation and over death. For instance, this morning, if I'll deal with the death part just a moment, if you take the advice and it gets weak enough, you start going to the death. And that law of gravitation pulls you down and you may be a person that, as far as you're concerned, alive, but you've got a sickness in you. In other words, you're not healthy. First thing you know, you'll be lying down and maybe permanently, but you see that law working in you. But there's also a law of life. Now, you watch this, watch. Let's go back to that law of gravity. That law, if it goes down, the law of gravity pulls you down. But now you watch this, watch. I'm going to take this watch and I'm going to let the operation of the law of gravity operate on me and it does. The focus isn't here. You know, there's a law now that's operating on this watch that's stronger than the law of gravity. And you know what that law did? It's holding that watch up right? It's holding it up. It's holding it up. Now see, the laws of the Bible say do and don't. Do and don't. And they demand. Now I'm talking about the judicial laws of the Bible. They say do and don't. And the law of death and sin and death is working in you. And the law says do this and don't do that and that law of sin and death is working in you. And what that law could not be, what the demand of God could not be, Jesus Christ came into the world and took upon himself a body, lived it out, comes within you and gives you the law of life. And that law of life is like that law holding that watch up. And that law is working to do what? To keep you from sinning, keeping you from being condemned. Whereby the do's and the don'ts of the Bible are practically lived up to. To where there is no condemnation in your life. And it's the law of the spirit of life in Christ. For what the law could not be, Jesus himself came and took up his abode in you. The law of life, the law that you see from the initial law where you can have it over and it's not you. It's the law of the life of Christ. That's why it's so erroneous to teach a person to get saved and then when they get saved they tell them that now the next thing is go out and do the best. Try your best. Read your Bible and pray and your spirituality is washed off on that. Amen. Now, it's the law of life. And he knows you for what you are. And do you know he's the only thing that is you to submit to him what he can work. That law that God has a problem with. If you bring your life to submit to him that's the only problem. Because the rest of the problem and he can handle because he's already made provision. And of course when you bring your unbelief to make him on his revealed feet which means to him, obedience to him. When you get to him then he can handle any other. Now I'll give you another illustration of faith. It's the overcoming in a Roman sense. And I believe it's the key to a lot of truth that some of us need. But I want to give you an illustration that I give you. I did this to be one of the best I've ever used. If I had a glove up here this morning and I put that glove right there now let me assume that I'm and so when God tells you to read your Bible he tells you to witness he tells you to do things I'm going to tell this glove I say glove, pick up that watch. Now that glove there right by him I say now glove, pick up that Bible. He says no, you know why? That glove in reality is dead. Now it's hard for you to see this but brother and sister it's so. Now you watch it. If I would take this hand take that glove and reach over and put that hand in that glove I say glove, that glove to move over I say glove, pick up that Bible. That glove to reach over and pick up that Bible. What's the difference? Still a glove. You know there's something in that glove now that's got the ability my friends if you're saved by the grace of God this morning washed in the blood of the Lamb you have who has the ability and when the law says without the law of life and Christ Jesus operating in you friends you now because you have a human body you can get up and go through the activity of performance but folks you still haven't learned the lesson that as far as God is concerned it's not what you do for God and the whole sermon on the mouth becomes a lie I get tickled at folks saying some preachers are too negative I don't think people have an understanding to the extent of what they know negative or positive preaching when they heard me my mother-in-law came to hear me you and mine are so different and what she was wanting me to be is one of these how you can't be involved with Jesus if you're supposed to be the controversy who do you want with Jesus you know I want you to rock but she really is and she's really deep in the Lord she's gone through some unusual things in her life she said to me you're just too negative I said what do you mean she said what do you know Jesus said love you I said would you please tell me how you're going to love me I said just suppose that your neighbor is a witch how are you going to love her you would really want to but she said oh no I end up getting a misprint I said can't you see because that's the thing God asked you to do and I said it's only there where you have brought your hands to love my neighbor and you love her but it's the Lord you say preaching the same way you get love Paul said I live this life by the faith by his faith not my faith he said the source of my faith he said I am he said I'm dead yet I live but it's not me it's Christ that's doing the living in me and he said since he's doing the living in me he said yet I'm dead and it's because this law of life in Christ and that law can operate in you today if you have to make yourself read the Bible folks there's something wrong with your spiritual relationship you shouldn't just grab a Bible and take it over I know that my reading this Bible is strictly legalistic and boy when he takes over and that law of life starts operating it becomes a living one when you have to make yourself go visiting because there's a visitation on Thursday night or something like that I wouldn't give you two bits for a man's Christianity just find the law because that law of life is worth the enemy in you you know what this law sets you free from they that are after the flesh but they that are after the spirit are to be carnal minded now the law will set you free from a carnal mind and this is a great need today our carnal minds when you see things as God sees them the law is not worried about the whole thing and you're not only free you're not condemned you are set free that God wants you to be if you are allowing the law of life now I have seen some folks who have taken the law of life as Paul was in the church in order to be oppressed still in the book quite a few years ago God spoke to her in heart when she said Lord I'm too old oh I know she said Lord I just can't she said alright Lord give me a hindrance she said your will give me a promise where my body will not be a hindrance the spirit of Christ that law he shall quicken that was their major stayed in his home she said man I've never seen a woman so young in all my life she said she went everywhere testifying she said I just don't see how she can do it except God you could bring Bertha Smith in you could bring her in here today she said when are you going to get you a lady to go around to you like Corrie Ten Boom she's already older than she is but she said well preacher what's the thing I knew Charles Weigel personally you know the man and you know what God so shall thy strength be that's the word of God now which one are you going to stand with the word or how you feel smell taste see calm down you know what you're free from let me give you this one you're free from something else this is a beauty when you're set free by the law of life in Christ Jesus you're set free from suffering suffering now preacher the Bible says you suffer I didn't say you didn't Paul said I counted so you do suffer but you don't suffer amen so folks there are 17 things amen 17 things you're set free from being a defeat he says well more than what did you know this morning the only testimony that you really have to the world did you know that when I get up and tell you I'm saved I'm saved you don't have any right but when I say I'm saved and you look out and see my life I didn't say you weren't saved I said you're real who was a conqueror so when that law of life and it's a law as the law of sin that you're set go with him that's why the Christian to see if they're real or not well if it just blows out this may not mean much to you before the week's over it will give you dimensions and show me the law of life
