Sermon Transcription
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for the wonderful privilege that we can be in your presence. Thank you that you bow down for yourself to make efforts with us, the children, and then in this special way today. Indeed, you have shown us today that your will is not our will. Thank you that your will has been shot in our lives. Be with us now. See in your words, see in the revelations. Be with us. We ask this in your name. Amen. And then especially when it goes about the lives of young people, and especially when it goes about sexual purity among young people, then the Bible is very, very clearly about it. Indeed, it is the will of God for His children that purity will be a characteristic of them and of His Church. And it is important for parents, as well as for young people, to learn about this and to be a part of their lives. In 1 Timothy 4, verse 12, Paul writes to the young Timotheus, the unfaithful Timotheus, and he sends him to a town, and he writes to him, and he says to Timotheus, This is what you have to teach the people. He says, no one can look at you because you are young, but you are the most religious example in words, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Friends, it is very easy to be an example for the unbelieving world. It is very easy for a child of God, or for a Christian, to live in such a way that the Church says, but this man is an example for me. But it is a completely different matter to live holy and to live in purity, where God's Holy Spirit is, and where the fire of God burns, to be an example for the people who are filled with God's Spirit. For them to be an example in purity, that is a completely different matter. For them to be an example for the people who are filled with God's Spirit. In Thessalonians chapter 4, verses 3 and 4, Paul gives us another insight, where Paul is writing to the people, and he says these words to them. Many of the translations that we use today, are translated by the original Greeks. But in Greek it is written that everyone should know how to receive his wife in holiness and honor. That is why this morning we want to sing for Martin and Lisa, for Lovrakh, for the community, for God. Then we are moved in our hearts that we have to deal with two young people, who have shown that they have lived in purity. And purity is when they appear before their Lord, before their parents, and before God's community, to say, we want to promise ourselves to each other, because it is God's will for our lives. This morning we want to sing for Martin and Lisa, for Lovrakh, for the community, for God. And as many young people here this morning, let these two young people's lives this morning, in what they are doing, be a testimony of how their own lives should be. God's Gospel, let it not water it, let it not make it weak. The Gospel is pure, it is powerful, it is strong, and it will come to us this morning. God's Gospel, let it not water it, let it not make it weak. The Gospel is pure, it is powerful, it is strong, and it will come to us this morning. And that is why, on the word of God, I want to ask Martin and Lisa to come forward and come to me at the council. I want to ask Martin and Lisa to come forward and come to me at the council. This is a symbol that they are not yet married. This is a symbol that God is going to unite them in marriage. This is a symbol that God is going to unite them in marriage. And that there will come a time when there will be no one between them, when God will unite them in marriage. And that there will be no one between them, and no one ever again will be able to come between them. But that they are here this morning, and that they want to say, this is the will of the Lord. This ring that Martin is giving to Lisa, is a symbol of his promise to her. You will also know that a ring is without an end and without a beginning, it is one totality. And with this ring Martin wants to say to Lisa this morning, My promise is that I will give myself to you, because it is God's will for my life. This is a promise, that he is going to say, there will come a day when I will belong to you. But here the ring wants to say, the promise of what is going to happen is here in person. He says, I will keep myself until our wedding day. And he gives it to her and she accepts it as a symbol of what I want to be for you. Lisa says, through the acceptance of this ring, I believe that it is God's will also for my life. Through the acceptance of this ring, I want to say to you, I belong to you. And I will keep myself pure until the day of our wedding. This is how God brings together his children in a marriage. And may this time, the time of promise, be a great blessing for you Martin and Lisa, for your parents, when you live before God in anticipation of the day of the wedding. Martin and Lisa, may God bless you. May God bless you. May God bless you. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, the children, Martin and Lisa, that they have promised each other according to your will for their lives. We thank you for the testimony that they have given to God's community, that they have lived in purity and have been called in purity to this day. May their wedding time be a time of grace upon grace. May their paths be equal. And may their lives be a grace that rises to you, to the glorification of you, our Lord. We give you in your hand. We pray to you, God's richest blessing. Amen. We are going to read together from Genesis chapter 24. Because this morning I want to show you from the word of God, that what is happening here is not something foreign to the word of God, but it is God's will for us, his children. And when he spoke to me about this service, he also spoke about this part in Genesis 24. And my spirit and his spirit have testified together that this is what this is about. But it is also because the word has testified that the world cannot know God and they cannot receive God's spirit, that it is clear that the world cannot understand these secrets. There are many young people, today there are already a lot of older people who have fallen in love in this way and are married here to us. Look at the world out there and how it is going, then you will see that life is full of pieces of debris, of marriages that were not kept because it was not God's will when these marriages were made. So I am going to read to you from Genesis chapter 24 what we are going to do with this sermon. Genesis 24, verse 4, just to start the reading of the verses. Abraham said to his servant, verse 4, you must go to my country, the country where I was born, and get a wife for my son Isaac. Abraham said to his servant, verse 4, you must go to my country, the country where I was born, and get a wife for my son Isaac. So I am going to read to you from Genesis chapter 24, verse 4, just to start the reading of the verses. The Spirit of God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow in the future. The Spirit of God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow in the future. So the servant said to Abraham, verse 39, I said to myself that if I do not have a wife, she will not come to me. So Abraham said to his servant, verse 40, I said to myself that if I do not have a wife, she will not come to me. So Abraham said to his servant, verse 40, I said to myself that if I do not have a wife, she will not come to me. And in this world where we live, child of God, it is important that you will have the testimony of Abraham for your life, that you will be able to say, I live after my Lord. For you to understand what is happening here today, there is a qualification, namely that you must know that I live after the Lord. For you to understand what is happening here today, there is a qualification, namely that you must know that I live after the Lord. And Martin and Lisa must know that this is one decision, in the rest of their lives, of decisions, where decisions must be made according to the will of God. And Martin and Lisa must know that this is one decision, in the rest of their lives, of decisions, where decisions must be made according to the will of God. And your life can be safe, and your decisions can be safe, if you know that you live after God. And your life can be safe, and your decisions can be safe, if you know that you live after God. And Abraham said to his servant, here in the second part of verse 40, Abraham said to his servant, here in the second part of verse 40, If you live after someone, there is a relationship between you and that person. You know that person, and that person knows you. In this case, Abraham knew that he lived after God, and that God would help him. In this case, Abraham knew that he lived after God, and that God would help him. And he let go of everything, and went to the land of Canaan. And he was never distrustful of the God who had called him. He had faith in a new land. He had faith in God's total care for his life. He had faith in war situations. And he knew that he could trust God with a woman for his child. He knew that it was not necessary for Isaac to deal with the children of Canaan. He knew that Isaac did not have to deal with one girl after another. He knew that Isaac did not have to deal with the children of Canaan. Because he lived after his God. And from the history of Isaac, we can learn that Isaac lived after his God. And then the servant of Abraham left with his camels and gifts to fetch a woman. But he did not know where he was going to find this woman. But he knew the God of Abraham. And he came to a fountain. And he prayed. And he prayed in verse 27. And he prayed in verse 28. And he prayed. And he prayed. And he prayed in verse 44. And he prayed in verse 45. And he prayed in verse 46. And it says here that we have to make a paradigm shift of how people think of what God thinks. It says here that God is not only in control of our material life, but He is also in control of our marital life, our love life. And now the servant of Abraham with his answer goes to Laban and Bethel and he speaks with them in verse 50. And then their reaction comes to what happened. But the Spirit of God is working. And here the people experience the presence of God together with the servant of God. And they say, what happened is of the Lord. We have nothing to say to you. And here the people experience the presence of God together with the servant of God. And they say, what happened is of the Lord. We have nothing to say to you. What does Rebecca know at this point? She knows that there is a servant of God before her. She has seen that he brought a bunch of camels as a gift for her. She has heard that he has witnessed the faith that is being taken. She has heard that there is a young man by the name of Isaac waiting for her. She has not seen him yet. She has not touched him. She has not kissed him. She knows nothing except what she has just heard. She knows that in this moment, say an hour or three, this man came to her and her parents' house. Then she must make a decision. She must give her life in this decision that she must make. Where will she hear what she must decide? Just with the Lord. As her father and her brother testified, it is the will of the Lord. So Rebecca must hear from the Lord, Lord, what is your will for my life in this matter? And his answer? Yes. Verse 50 She heard the voice of God also in this matter. Surely she had her thoughts about the future. Surely she wondered what the future would hold for her with the man she does not know. But there is one thing that reassured her. And that reassured her that if she makes the decision to go with him, she is safe. There is just one thing that reassured her. The father of Isaac testified, I live next to animals. And in a house where the father and the mother can testify that the Lord lives, the child will also testify that the Lord lives. And this is what was said to her. I can say yes, I do not have to worry about my future, because God is in this matter. I can say yes, I do not have to worry about my future, because God is in this matter. Friends, if God is not in this matter, whether it is a marriage, or a marriage, or a car, or a house, or the raising of your child, if God is not in this matter, it is better to let it go, than to continue it. Friends, if God is not in this matter, whether it is a marriage, or a house, or a car, or the raising of your child, it is better to let it go, than to continue it. In verse 67 he said, she was his wife, and he had love for her. It is interesting that love came after the engagement and the marriage. How many marriages are not dying, while it was based on our love, or declared love between a man and a woman. Is it not true that we have first the love in this world, first the cohabitation, first the sleep, and maybe later God. No, but here we have a case of first God, and then all the other firsts are added. From this part I would like to point out two norms. First, the norm of God's kingdom, and the norm of the world. First, the norm of God's kingdom, and the norm of the world. Second, the norm of God's kingdom, and the norm of the world. When we look at the world's norms, we see that today in the world, it is the man or the woman, the young man or the young girl, who takes the initiative to engage in a marriage. A year or so ago I was at a conference about women's rights, about the emancipation of women. And a lady said, she wants to marry a man who has the right to marry a woman. She wants to marry a man who has the right to marry a woman. She wants to marry a man who has the right to marry a woman. But in God's kingdom, God takes the initiative. Here, God comes to the young man and says to him, I will show you your wife. And this can happen in different ways. But God takes the initiative. Because God brings people together. It's about God's will in a young man's and a young girl's life. And it's not about sensuality. It's not about being beautiful or ugly. It's about God bringing two young people together. Because this is the will of God for their lives. And the Jesus himself testified against Pilate, but I am not from this world. My kingdom is from another world. And we are citizens of another kingdom. This is a better way for the child of God. The second characteristic of the standard of the world is that it is a time where young people get to know each other. Because we have to see if we fit together for the rest of our lives. How vulnerable is man in this journey? Because more than two out of three couples end up in divorce today. There is a tendency in the church today that young people do not want to marry, but just want to stay together. There is a tendency in certain churches where they want to decide that if two young people have stayed together for a certain period of time, it is almost like a marriage. God will give you grace in every circumstance. God's love will strengthen together. God's holy presence will bring such a connection to perfection in the Lord Jesus Christ. God will give you grace in every circumstance. God will give you grace in every circumstance. God's holy presence will bring such a connection to perfection in the Lord Jesus Christ.
