Sermon Transcription
Welcome to From the Pulpit in Classic Sermons. Each week, we bring you a different message from some of history's greatest speakers in the Christian faith, and powerful summaries from modern preachers, too. This week, we have Oral Roberts with two messages. First is, What You Should Know About Your Faith, and the second is called, Transferred Power. History from the Book of Romans, Romans 12.3, the last 12 words. God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Will you say it, please? God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Again. God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. I wish to speak to you now on what you should know about your faith. Number one, faith is not something you get. It is something you already have. When I made this discovery, I said to myself, I wish I might have known this long before, for I have wasted hundreds and hundreds of prayers begging God to give me something He had already made as a gift to me. One day I was reading the Bible when I came across Romans 12.3 and found these words, God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. So I said to myself, I already have faith. God has dealt me a measure of it. He has given me faith. He has given you faith. Even sinners have faith. A man heard me say that once. He said, Brother Roberts, do you mean to say that I, a sinner, have faith? Of course you have faith, because if you didn't, you couldn't get saved, because people are saved through faith, through faith. Not through works, but through faith. And if a sinner did not have faith, he could not become a Christian. And every Christian in this audience once was a sinner, and as a sinner you had faith, else you could not have become a child of God. So faith is not something you get. It is something you already have. Say it, please. Faith is not something you get. It is something you already have. Say it again. Faith is not something you get. It is something you already have. Now, so many people waste their prayers begging God. Oh, God, give me faith. Give me faith. Why don't you thank God for the faith you already have and start using it for a change? Now, it's perfectly scriptural to say, God, increase my faith. It is right to say, Lord, help me believe better and make my faith stronger, but it's out of tune to say, Lord, give me faith, for God has already given to every man, every woman, the measure of faith. Number two, this is what you should know about your faith. Faith becomes aroused by the preaching of the word of God. So many people say, Brother Roberts, if I have faith, then why doesn't it work? For the simple reason that faith is not automatic. You can't press a button and make your faith work. Faith comes. Faith comes, the Bible says. Romans 10, 17, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Why do I preach? Because my preaching the gospel of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit upon me makes my faith come forth. It brings it out of me. You know, there's oil in the ground, but somebody has to drill into the ground and find the oil. People, you've got this faith. God's put it there. He's given you a measure of faith, but the word of God drills down to it and brings it out. That's why we preach the word of God. Some people have faith, but they don't know how to believe. They don't know what to believe for. But as you hear the word of God preached, you learn how to believe for the right things. It gives direction to your faith. My faith is always the strongest when I've just finished my sermon. That's why I like to pray for the sake just after I have preached. A man came in our great tent cathedral one day. He came up to one of the members of my party and said, Why can't Brother Roberts pray for me without preaching so much? And my man said to him, Because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If Brother Roberts stopped the preaching of the gospel and decided to go out and pray for people indiscriminately, he wouldn't have very much success. Neither would they have very strong faith. So some of you people like my preaching and some of you probably would like for me to hush up and get to you a little quicker. But I say to you, if you will listen to the word of God, it will build your faith strong so when you do come up here for prayer, something can take place worthwhile in your life. If you believe it, say Amen. Number three, you have faith. The word of God arouses your faith. But your faith never becomes powers for your concern until you release it. It won't save your soul, it won't heal your body, it won't supply your needs until you release it. How do you release it? You release it by a point of contact. A point of contact is anything you do, which one you do, you turn your faith loose. And the Bible teaches, among other things, the laying on of hands. That's why I lay on hands for praying for the sick. When I lay my hand upon you, that's when I believe. That's when you should believe. When you come in this prayer line and I put my hand upon you, may that be a point of contact. Release it, because unless you release it, it will never bring the deliverance of God into your life. Release your faith. Christ once said, where is your faith? What have you done with it? He didn't say you never had it, because he knew they did. He now wanted to know where it was. You've had it, you say you don't have it now, then you've lost it. You did have it, now what have you done with it? Where is it? There's a man in the Bible who lost his faith by the name of Thomas. The man who was an apostle, he walked and talked with Christ for some three years. And at the Lord's death, he lost his faith. And he became a man so bitter, disillusioned, until he went off and hid. Then after the Lord's resurrection from the dead, he appeared to the other 11 disciples. And when he did, they were so glad, they ran and told Thomas, Thomas, we have seen the Lord. He said, I don't believe a word of it. The following week on the Lord's Day Sunday, the disciples met together to wait for the Lord to reappear. And Thomas just decided, well, I better go. He may come. And when he arrived, the Lord appeared. The Lord walked over to him and showed him his hands, his side. He said, Thomas, reach into thy hand and thrust thy finger into my hands and thy hand into my side. Be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas took one look at the evidence, and he cried, my Lord and my God. Now, friends, you say that you've lost your faith. You say that you don't know what's happened to you, and you don't know what to do. I'll tell you what you can do. Just open your eyes and look about you and see the evidence that Christ is risen from the dead. Think about the man here last night, the Greek man, who said, Brother Roberts, when I first saw you on television, I cried because I saw with my own eyes what God was doing for the people. Thomas looked at the marks in his hands and side. We're looking today at the outstretched hand of God upon human lives. We're seeing him save people. We're seeing him heal people. We're seeing this with our own eyes. Be not faithless, but believing. Find your faith again. Recapture it. You can. You can. Let me tell you a story. There was a preacher, a pastor of a great church, who grew very cold in his soul and began to preach sermons that were dry and had not the anointing upon them. One Sunday morning he noticed on his pulpit a little note and he read, Dear Pastor, we would see Jesus sign your church. He heard through his sermon, went off to his study, and sent a message to his wife that he would not be home to eat. And all the afternoon he prayed. He said, Oh God, have I lost the Lord? Have I lost my faith? And as the evening wore away and he kept on praying, he felt the spark of God's presence again. And suddenly he felt that warming experience of faith found. And so he opened his Bible and got a brand new sermon. And that night he preached like a man from another world. Sunday after Sunday he preached. The crowds came back and filled the building. The sinners were saved. The people rejoiced. And one Sunday there was a note penned to his pulpit and it said, Dear Pastor, then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord. People, you can find your faith again. Will you bow your heads? Now with your heads bowed, will you give your life to God tonight? I want every man, every woman, every boy, and every girl who believes in my prayers, and you want my prayers, that Christ may become your personal Savior. That you may receive the forgiveness of your many sins. That you as a sinner will be a child of God. That you will give your life to Christ. And you want me to pray for you tonight. Take the first step, please, in his name right now. And raise up your right hand, quickly, please. Up high, up high. Keep your hands up. Take the second step, please, and stand on your feet for my prayer. Please stand right now. And they're really getting up. That's wonderful. Take the third step and come down the aisles. Stand in front of me here at the platform so I can pray for you to be saved. Come on, right now. And they're coming down every aisle. Come right now! Oh, that is wonderful. Now then, you realize tonight that no man can save you, only Christ can save your soul. Is that right? How many of you have come forward that you may be saved and give your life to Christ? Raise up your right hand. All right. I want you to repeat after me the sinner's prayer. Ready? Oh, Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner. I repent of my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I receive him. As my personal Savior, live for him forever. Amen. If you meant that, say amen. I feel that many of you have surrendered your life to Christ. You have made a decision for Jesus. You have made a decision that from tonight your life will belong to God. If that's so, let me see your right hand and let me hear you say amen. Amen. Well, that's wonderful. Brother Deweese, I'd like to ask this couple here, are you together? Yes. Who are you folks? I'm Evelyn Ellsbury. You both came forward to make your decision for Christ? Yes. Did you make it? Yes. Did you make it, sir? Yes. Well, how does it make you feel? Well, it makes me feel a lot better. Yes. Well, it's mighty good to see you come up here. Brother Deweese, let's ask this lady right here. Did you get saved tonight? Yes, Brother Robert. I've been saved, but I've been really angry and I've worked for the Lord. I do missionary work. But you wandered away and now you came back. I did spiritual work. And now then do you feel that you have re-surrendered? I made my decision and I made a special trip here because I knew God had a message for me to you. You made a special trip here to surrender to Christ and get back in step with God. Yes. If you feel there that you have surrendered your life to Christ, if you have made a decision, I'd like for you to write me, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and say, Brother Roberts, I did surrender to Christ. Or if you did not, if you want my prayers, write me, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Oklahoma. I'll be happy to send you a little booklet titled How You May Know That You're Saved. Free and postpaid, just ask for it, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and say send me your free booklet, How I May Know I Am Saved. Now I want you friends to go to the prayer room, get down on your knees and pray that you know you're saved, and I'll come back in a few minutes and pray for the sick. And now friends, this is a wonderful campaign. God has really been working. Isn't that right? Now I want to point out one thing, that you must respond to God in order to be healed. Healing does not come from a man. It comes through faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Do you believe that? Say amen. Amen. Yes sir, we believe in medical science, just as you do. We believe that people should do for themselves what is available. We also believe that when nothing else can be done, we have a right to come to God, and that God can do what no mortal power can do. How many of you believe that so? I'm ready now to pray. Hello here. You are who? What's your name? Lenore Cone. Where are you from? 243 West 26th St. John's Lutheran Church. In Erie, Pennsylvania. You have arthritis in your knee and your feet. Your feet swell, also your ankles. You have to go up steps one at a time, and you mean by that what? Well, when I go like this, I can't. I have to wait until I put this one up first. I can't go up one and then the other. You put one foot up on a step, and then you have to bring the other one on the same step before you can move again. And how long has that been going on, Miss Clem? About six years. Six years. Do you love God? I do. Have you been enjoying this campaign? I love it. You love it. What do you like about it? Oh, everything. Everything? Say, that's a big God statement, isn't it? It is. That's wonderful. We ask the Heavenly Father for this thy child to be healed from the crown of her head to the soles of her feet. Heal. Oh, Miss Clem. You've had faith quite a while, haven't you? Sure have. Raise your limbs up and down, please. I wish I had some steps. I do have, Brother Deweese. Now, those steps are very steep, I understand. I know they're steep. Step back down and try it again. I wish I had some not quite so steep. You just can't do it? Come over here a minute, please. Everyone raise your right hand with me, please. Father, we ask thee for this thy child to be able to lift her limbs. Heal. Oh, glory to God. Well, I felt his presence and his power. Brother Deweese, would you lightly hold her by the hand? Those steps are steep for anybody. Whoa. Stand down. Oh, you know, you had the faith. I thought you did. How does it make you feel? Wonderful. God bless you. Go now and give God the glory. That's good. Repetitious man, Mr. Frank Keller of what city, sir? Coyopolis, Pennsylvania. And you have? Multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis. Is this Mrs. Keller? That is correct. How do you do? How long has your husband had it? For six years now. Six years now. That is none of it. That is. All right, Lord, we ask for this miracle. Heal! Oh, brother, you were ready. You were ready. Raise your legs up and down, please. I think you can walk. Seek you can in God's name. Oh, that's good. That's good. Come back over here, sir. You know, even that much is wonderful, isn't it? Yes, it is. How long has it been since you could walk like that? About two years. About two years. Now you're going all the way down, all the way. Mrs. Keller, he, you know, he's, he's, he's, he's, you're welcome. He's holding that crutch up now. Oh, he is. He is. What? Hello, young fellow. Tell me who you are, please. Paul Spring. Paul Spring from Erie, Pennsylvania. Wayne Street Methodist Church. You have a heart condition, a hole in your heart. Are you the mother? How long has he had the hole? He's had it since birth. How does it affect him? Well, his whole body has been, he just hasn't been able to do like other boys. He's had to be very careful in climbing stairs. It's putting behind two years in school. Miss Spring, do you believe? I believe. Young man, do you believe God? Yes. Put your hand on your heart, son. Jesus, we ask for the miracle of God. We ask that. Oh, Lord. I believe that. Paul, I think you felt the presence of God too, didn't you? What did it feel like, Paul? I was all nervous and excited. You were all nervous and excited. How about now? I'm calm. You're calm. Well, amen. God grant that that heart will be completely healed. Amen. Amen. Well, Glory, what's your name? Jesse. Jesse what? Brownings. Geneva, Ohio? Yes, sir. You have club feet? Yes, sir. How long you had club feet, Jesse? Ever since I can remember. How would you know if your feet were healed? I can tell. You can tell? Yeah, I did. Oh, God, let his feet come straight. Let his feet come straight. Raise them up and down as I pray for you, Jesse. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. You left foot is the worse one, Jesse. Yes. Take a few steps and come back to me. Come back to me now. Jesse, you're walking just a little different than you did when you walked up here. Yes, sir. And you can tell it. Yes, sir. My feet was hurting no more. They were hurting, but no more. Walk over there and back, sir. Say, you're using your heels good too, aren't you? Yes, you are. Fred, it's so easy, isn't it? Yes, sir. Did you really expect to be helped? Yes, sir. I wish everybody could come like that. You're so quiet and yet, you must be feeling something inside. I do. You do? Yes, sir. Take it home with you. All right. You will? God bless you. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Well, now, little crippled sister, just tell me this. What are you doing up here anyway? Looking for a little help. Looking for a little help. Do you remember the Episcopal Church? Episcopalian Church from Canton, New York? That's right. You're Mrs. Della... Bouchard. Bouchard. You're very lame for ten years. Now then, you've seen what God's done for others. Oh, I sure have. Have you really seen the Lord do great things here? How could I miss? How could you miss? Well, He is doing great things. Have you enjoyed the campaign? Oh, every minute of it. Every minute of it. I was here the first day. Well, now, how do you explain all these people here from different churches, and yet they all just meet in unity and we have the greatest time in the world? Wonderful. Well, how do you explain that? I couldn't explain it. I don't know how. You're just enjoying it. I sure do. There you are. There you are. It doesn't require an explanation, does it? Now, Miss Bouchard, when I touch you, let that be your point of contact now, and believe for the laying on of hands. Oh, God, let her be healed tonight. Healed. Healed. Healed. That's yours? Well, I can't take it away from me. It's your property. It's your property. You want it? I hope I never have to use it. Miss Bouchard, I hope I'm saying your name correctly. When you walk off this platform tonight, remember how you felt when you came up? You were saying, I'm going to believe God. I felt God when I touched you. I expect you to walk off right, but you too must believe that. Now, you walk off like you should in God's name. I'll do that. I'm watching you now, and I'm praying for you too. Pray right now. Are you ready? Oh, God, not in my name or in my strength, but in the name of thy son, Jesus Christ, I come to thee. I ask thee to fill this room with thy presence, and may the people in this place be healed from the crown of their head to the sole of their feet. My brother, in the name of Christ, I ask the Lord to heal you. Heal him, O Lord. Heal him. My sister, in the name of the Son of God, be healed. Be healed and set free. Father, heal the children. Heal this little child. Heal this baby. Heal it. Heal it and give it new life. Lord, fill this room with thy glory, thy presence, and heal the people in it, and make them whole in soul and body. Thank you, Lord. I believe that you hear and answer prayer. Amen. Now then, I'm happy to call your attention to the blessed word of God, which I believe in with all my heart, to the book of 2 Kings, chapter 2, beginning to read in verse 8. And this certainly is a dramatic part of the Bible. And Elijah took his mantle and wrapped it together and smoked the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they too went over on dry ground. It came to pass when they were gone over that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee, but if not, it shall not be so. And now I wish to speak to you on this subject, transferred power. For some time now, the Lord has been dealing with me about transferred power. That as the power of God in the life of Elijah, the mighty prophet, was transferred to the young man whose name was Elisha, so the power of God in the lives of people of Bible times can be transferred to you and me in our generation. Now I know that's a tremendous thing even to think about, but the Lord has been dealing with me and he's shown me it can be done, it is being done in our time. I believe in transferred power. Now Elijah was one of the greatest and mightiest men of God who ever lived on this earth. It was Elijah whose prayer was responsible for the great rain that came and broke the drought of 42 months in the nation of Israel. He prayed the fire down from heaven that broke the backbone of Baal that brought revival and deliverance to his nation and people. It was he who took the mantle from his shoulder, smoked the waters of Jordan in the name of the Lord, the waters rolled back, and he walked across Drishon. He was one of the two men in the Bible who was translated, who was lifted bodily from this earth and taken straight to glory without having to die. Yes, he was a mighty man of God. And there were a few people who believed that the power of God in Elijah's life could be transferred, but he believed it and a young man believed it, a young man by the name of Elisha. Now the first contact Elijah had with this young boy Elisha was the day that he saw him plowing in the field. Now Elisha was just a young farmer boy. I suppose he had never been to town much. He certainly didn't have much of this world's education. But you know, God doesn't look on outward appearance. He looks upon the heart. He sees what's on the inside of us and he deals with us accordingly. As Elijah walked by, he just pulled off his mantle and threw it over the shoulder of this young boy as he walked behind the plow. Well, when the young boy felt the mantle of Elijah, the mighty prophet of God, upon his shoulders, he stopped. He said to Elijah, I'll just go home. I will take my plows and make a fire. I will take my beast and I'll make a barbecue and I'll call my friends and I'll kiss my mother and my father goodbye and I'll go with you. And he did it. He made a clean break. He stepped out to follow the mighty prophet Elijah. Now the second contact that the prophet Elijah had with this young man, Elijah, was to test his powers of spiritual perception. He said to the young boy, you stay here. The Lord has called me to go to Bethel. But the young man said, no, as the Lord thy God lives and as thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. And he went with him. When they arrived, he said, you stay here. The Lord has called me to Jericho. The young man said, no, I'm going with you. And every time they would stop, Elijah would say, young man, you stay here. The Lord has called me to go to some other place. And finally he said, he's called me to go to Jordan and you stay here. The young man said, no, I'm going with you. You know why Elijah told him to stay at each of these places? He was testing his powers of spiritual perception. He wanted to know if this man was spiritually minded, if this boy had a desire for spiritual things. You know, there are some people who don't care about God. They don't care about spiritual things. They don't care about making heaven their home. They don't care a thing about the Bible. They don't believe in prayer. They don't believe there does anything to faith. They don't even believe God heals today. They don't believe in miracles. They're not spiritually minded. And your powers of spiritual perception are being tested right now to see if you can believe in the Spirit of God. Did you know that we have more people today seeking prayer than we can ever personally pray for? And I know that the time is coming when we'll believe together in one explosive moment, and in that incomparable hour, God will reach down his hand and touch a whole crowd and they'll be healed simultaneously. If you believe it, say amen. The third contact that Elijah had with this young man, Elijah, was on the banks of the Jordan River. Now the Jordan is a type of the thing that stands between us and God and his power. As they stood there, Elijah took his mantle and walked out and smoked the water to the right and to the left. They rolled back. And he walked across with Elisha dry shod. When they got over on the other side, Elisha looked back and the waters closed in behind them. About that time, Elijah said, Young man, the Lord is going to translate me today. Now ask of me what I shall do for thee before I am translated. What is the one thing you would like for me to do for you, son? The young man looked at that water of the Jordan and remembered how the miracle had parted those waters. He remembered the tremendous miracles of this man's life and of the way he used that power to bless the human family. And without hesitation, he looked at his master and he said, Elijah, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. Friends, if God came to you and asked you what was your one desire, what would your answer be? Well, he asked for what he felt in his heart. What he really believed in and wanted most of all, he said, let a double portion of thy spirit, thy power, be upon me. Now the next contact that Elijah had with this young boy, Elisha, was while he was en route from earth to glory. Elisha stood there, just a boy. He had just asked for a double portion of the man's spirit and power. As he looked up, he saw the prophet Elijah disappearing. And he screamed, my father, my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof. In other words, he said, there goes the army and the navy. There goes the power of our people. You know, he thought that when Elijah was translated that the power of God would go back to heaven with him. That's what he thought. But you know, there's one last thing Elijah could do. Just before he got out of sight, he just turned his shoulders and loosed the mantle. And down it came and fell at the feet of this young boy, Elisha. There it was. In other words, Elijah on his whirlwind trip to heaven was saying, son, you asked for it, there it is. Pick it up, smite the water, and they'll roll back. Glory. My friend, you better not ask for the power of God and mean it because something's going to happen to you if you really want it and you're sincere in believing for it. He picked it up. He walked out to that old river. He stood there on the bank. He leaned over and he smoked the water to the left and he smoked it to the right. Then he said, where is the Lord God of Elijah? And the waters rolled back, and he walked across dry shore. My brother, that's transferred power. He got it. He received the power of God. You say, Brother Roberts, can I have the power of God? Yes, if you want it. If you'll be spiritually minded. You can have it if you will meet God's conditions. If you will have the courage, once you ask for it and believe for it, to take it and use it, you can have the power of God. Let every head be bowed, please. Now while your heads are bowed, listen carefully to me and do as I tell you. If you will do as I tell you in this service, God will save your soul. He'll recover your soul. He'll forgive your sins. Now, please take the first step in his name. I want every man, every woman, every boy and every girl who believes in my prayers, and you want my prayers that God may save your soul, and you want me to pray that you will be saved in this service, take the first step, please, in his name right now and raise up your right hand quickly. Raise your hands up high. Hundreds and hundreds of hands. That's wonderful. Take your hands down. Now, friends, will you take the second step and obey God? I want every man, woman, boy and girl, without exception, who raised your hand for me to pray for you to be saved in this service, take the second step in his name right now and stand on your feet for my prayer. Please stand right now. Oh, they're getting up all over this tent. I'm so glad you're standing. This is God's hour to save your soul and make you whole. We have a place in front of me here at the platform where you may come up and stand for prayer, and I'm going to pray for you to be saved in this service. Please step out in the aisle, come down the aisle right now, stand before me for prayer. And they're coming down every aisle. Come on. And now while they come down these aisles, to repeat after me the sinner's prayer and get saved, I want you there in your home to get ready. I want to pray the same prayer with you that I pray with them, and I know God will save you. He will do it if you're sincere, and you'll pray from your heart. Please get yourself ready. And now I want each of you friends standing in front of me, put up your right hand. There in your home, put up your right hand. Don't be ashamed. Put up your hand and pray this prayer after me. Ready? Oh, Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner. Save my soul from all sin. Oh, God, come into my heart and save me now. Forgive my sins. Make me thy child, and I'll serve thee. In Jesus' name, amen. If you meant that, say amen. Say praise the Lord. You there, listen to me. Did you mean it? If you meant it, the Lord has come in your heart. For if you're sincere as you pray, God will hear you pray. And if you feel that you are saved, I want you to write me a personal letter, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Oklahoma. That's all the address necessary, just Oral Roberts, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and say, Brother Roberts, I was saved through your prayers. I want to know. And if you don't feel that you're saved, you write me, and let me pray for you again. And now you friends standing here, and you there too, I want you to promise me you will join a good church, the church of your own choice, and live for God. If you'll do it, say amen. Amen. Back in a moment to pray for the sick. Friends, we're ready now to start the healing line when I pray for the sick. I want to invite you there in your home to open your heart and to participate with us in prayer and faith. I'd like to remind you that every week at this time, many people in their homes are healed while participating in our healing service. You can be healed too. I want you people here in the audience to open your hearts and believe God. I want you to know that we believe in medical science just as you do, but we also believe that God can heal by faith. So we're praying for the sick because we're commanded by Christ to pray for the sick. Are you ready here in the audience? Good. All right. Right over here, William Broughour, Lakeland, Florida. Mr. William, did you come from Lakeland, Florida to Billings, Montana? Yes, sir. How far did you come? I guess it's over 2,000 miles. Oh, I reckon it is over 2,000. It's probably more than 3,000 miles. Why did you come, William? I was looking at one of your programs. On TV? Not the last one, but about two weeks ago. I just went in not thinking I'd have a chance. I could hardly walk to the place. And all my bones ached with this disease I had. What disease is it? Hodgkin's disease. Hodgkin's. What is that disease? It's cancer of the lymph glands. Uh-huh. And you came in the room while I was on TV, and what happened? Well, I thought my feet felt better. I was just watching the program. No, I took that prayer with you, and I put my hand on my chest. Oh, I see. And I never had faith before. All of a sudden, I seemed to have a funny feeling in my feet. And I didn't tell anybody in the room because I couldn't just understand it. But then I stood up and nothing hurt anymore. I jumped about a foot off the floor, and I ran all the way home and chinned myself on a swing in the back of the yard to see if I had the strength. And that's when you entered the TV prayer with me, when I said put your hand on your body and praise it, right? You've been feeling better ever since. Yes, I have. Then you decided to come to the campaign and be prayed for in person. Yes. What church are you a member of? Methodist Church. Methodist Church in Lakeland? Yes. Well, well. William, we're glad you're here. And I'm sure this audience in this big tent will pray with me. And you people there in your home, pray with me as I pray for this boy. Everybody ready? Answer me. Ready? Ready. Good. Jesus of Nazareth, Son of the living God, completely heal this boy. Doubtless you've already begun to heal him, for we have the evidence of it here by his own testimony. But Jesus, whatever is left of this dreaded malady, heal! In Jesus' name, and may he be completely well. William, I hope you felt what I felt. I want to thank you very much for what you've done for me. Oh, brother, you don't have to thank me. You thank the good Lord. Did you feel his presence when I prayed for you there, William? I thought you should because I felt it so strong. And I like to feel God's power when I pray for the sick. And listen to me. Let me shake your hand. As you go back to Florida, we want you to write us. We want you to keep in touch with us. We feel something has happened. God bless you, Richless. God bless you. Yes, sir. We're proud you came. Give us your name and address, please. Frank Anderson, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. And what church? Methodist. Mr. Anderson, how old are you? 77. Just a boy? Just a kid. Just a kid. You have, uh... Heart trouble. Oh, you have heart trouble. Palpitation. Palpitation. Period. I see. Ringing in the head. Ringing in the ears. And they tell me that's an awful thing. It's a bad thing. Yes, sir. Keeps you awake at night. Yes, I know that you believe or you wouldn't be here. Oh, I absolutely do. Oh, I'm glad. Oh, God, heal your child. Heal the heart. Heal the ringing in the ears. Set him free! Oh, glory to God. Brother, you just have faith. That's what it takes. Sure you have. That's why I come down here. And are you disappointed? No. No? No, sir. Brother Anderson, you are a chiropractic doctor? Yeah. Are you practicing in Vancouver? Yeah. You know, we have many wonderful friends among... I got a lot of patients waiting for me to come back to. They know I'm down here. Oh, your patients know you're down here? Yeah, sure. How do you do? Sure I do. Dr. Anderson, we have had many medical doctors, chiropractic doctors, osteopathic doctors in our meetings. You're not the first one. And it's a wonderful thing to me, your attitude, the attitude of many doctors toward God's healing power. It's the only thing. Because God heals my patient through me. That's the way I figure it. I've always told them that. What are you going to tell them this time? The same thing. The same thing. God bless you, doctor. I'd like to talk to you a lot longer. I've got a lot of folks waiting. God bless you and your patients. What did you say, sister? I can't get my balance very good. What's the matter? Well, I was in the hospital for 20 days under observation for a brain tumor. And then I was scheduled for operation at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and 20 after 12. They told me it couldn't operate. They told you after scheduling the operation it couldn't be carried through? Why was that? Mrs. Bonine, is it? It's Bonine. Bonine, I'm sorry. I don't know why, but something's wrong. They didn't think they could do it. As far as you know, it's a brain tumor. Mrs. Bonine, how long have you been here in the meeting? I've been here all week. I came Monday so I could be here. Well, I believe that something good is going to happen to you. I know it is. You know it? Sure, that's why I came. That's why you came. Jesus, take... Yes, sister, something happened then. Yes, it's better. It's better. Sister, don't you be ashamed of crying and shaking like that. You've got every right. Because if you're better, if God is healing you, you have a right to shout to high heaven. People, let's raise our hands and help her rejoice. Are you the son? Oh, I see. You brought your son with you. Sister, I think you're going to walk off this platform and you aren't going to stagger and you aren't going to be busy. Walk off. I'll send your son to you. Walk right on up. Oh, isn't that how this works? People, isn't that wonderful? Let the world see what Jesus can do. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! This is the son of the woman, Mrs. Benin, I just prayed for. He's 34. Harold, you do have epilepsy. You're hard of hearing. How hard of hearing are you? Not very hard. Is your hearing just dull in the left ear? But you do have epilepsy. Yes, sir. Jesus, heal the dull hearing. Make his hearing acute and normal. Now, audience, bow your heads, please. Oh, God, I come against epilepsy in the name of Christ. Jesus of Nazareth, I ask in thy name. Have compassion and mercy. Heal! May it never recur in Christ's name. That smile speaks volumes, Harold. Sir? That feels wonderful. In what way, Harold? I just feel it. Just feel the spirit of God. Feel it. Let's close up this ear a minute and let me see... Put your finger in that ear. Say, praise God. Praise God. Amen. Amen. How about that for a whisper? I was whispering to you. Say, praise God. Praise God. Amen. Amen. Let me shake your hand. God bless you, boy. I'm ready now to offer the TV prayer. You friends here in the audience, put your hand upon your body as a point of contact. You there in your home, put your hand upon your body like this. Just put your hand on your chest. Just as if I was there in person and I was putting my hand on you. People, if I was ever ready and anointed to pray for you, that time is right now. So many of you have written me that you've been healed through these prayers. I want to encourage you to believe now. Are you ready? Dear God, I come to thee in the name of thy son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. As you've healed the people here in the line in the big tent, I ask thee to stretch forth thy hand there in the home of the people and heal them. Heal the master. Let your healing presence fill this place and heal in the name of Jesus. Now, my brother, I'm reaching forth my hand to pray for you. Get yourself ready. My brother, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, the son of the living God, be healed. Jesus, heal your body, your soul and mind. Heal you and make you whole. I believe that. My sister, are you ready? Oh, God, put thy hand upon her. My sister, in Christ's name, be healed. Be healed from the crown of your head to the sole of your feet. Be made whole in Jesus' name. I felt that prayer and I believe God's helped you. Now, young people, young man, young woman, I know God can heal you. In Jesus' name, O Lord, heal him and heal her. Heal them and make them whole. Now, would you put your hands on your baby or get near it? Or if you're a little child, you put your hand on your body and I'll pray for you. Jesus, heal this child. Heal it. Heal the baby. Heal in the name of the holy child, Jesus. Heal and make them whole by your power. People, if you feel what I feel, something has happened to you. The Lord's here and he's there. There's no distance in prayer. I can pray here. He can heal you there. I believe it. Now, I want you to raise your hands and I want you to praise him right now. Thank him for what he's done for us. Did you do it? Everybody. Amen. You've been listening to the From the Pulpit in Classic Sermons series. Listen to freely downloadable audio sermons by From the Pulpit & Classic Sermons in mp3 format. The work and ministry of SermonIndex can be encapsulated in this one word: Revival. Concepts such as Holiness, Purity, Christ-Likeness, Self-Denial and Discipleship are hardly the goal of much modern preaching. Thus the main thrust of the speakers and articles on the website encourage us towards a reviving of these missing elements of Christianity. Download these higher-quality mp3 recordings that have been broadcasted on the radio. These very high-bite rate messages are great to use also for CD distribution and broadcasting on radio and internet radio. This is being done in partnership with a Christian Radio Station in Missouri. Produced at KNEO Radio in Neosho, MO
