Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher reflects on the creation of the heavens and the earth as described in Genesis. He emphasizes the intricate design and interdependence of every aspect of creation, highlighting God's power and deity. The preacher also mentions that while creation reveals God's power, it does not reveal the gospel. He then transitions to discussing the significance of the empty tomb in Jerusalem and the hope of resurrection for believers in Jesus Christ. The sermon concludes with an invitation for those who do not know Christ to come forward and receive prayer and a Bible.

Genesis chapter 2, thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all of the host of them and on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made and God blessed the seventh day and sanctify it because in it he had rested and the idea is ceased from his work of creation is the idea creation was complete so there was a cessation which God created and made so we have journeyed through this first chapter looking at at least taking snapshots of some of the remarkable things of creation if you've been with us we kind of set aside the gap theory and we didn't spend any time there and and you're entitled to do whatever you want with it if you're bored with the scripture and have to develop whole doctrines between the lines that's up to you but we kind of set it aside and and gave a resource that kind of moves it aside if you care to read if you are interested in that and we looked at seven 24-hour days and I think that's clearly what the Bible says the yam and yamim and the plural and singular in the Hebrew hundreds of times in the Old Testament and every time there is a numerical value attached every single time it speaks of a 24-hour period evening and morning were the first there's a numerical value day 24 hours Moses God's instrument in writing is the same one who tells us in Exodus chapter 20 that on the seventh day God rested in six days there's the number six days God created the heavens and the earth and in the seventh day he rested they're not thousand-year days very interesting as we read the order of creation on the third day he makes all the the the plants and the fruit-bearing trees it isn't until the sixth day that he makes the creeping things the insects the bugs and if there were thousand-year days all the plants depend on pollination would have died before the fifth day this these had to be days in quick succession to have the whole system up and running because every part is dependent upon another so a remarkable set of circumstances and we looked at it we saw God's hand in it now by the way as we as we look at creation remember that Romans tells us that the the the deity of God is power is Godhood are revealed in creation the gospel is not but his power is and his Godhead is revealed in creation it tells us in Psalm 19 the heavens declare the glory of the Lord in the firmament showeth his handiwork and when you read verses like that you I want you to to just be on your toes there are people who believe that God's there's a twofold revelation of God one in his word and one in creation that the creation is also a revelation of God well the only way we know the creation is a revelation of God is from this revelation because it's written in the word then we know the heavens declare the glory of the Lord if it wasn't written in the word we wouldn't know that that that we could look there and see God's handiwork and and attributes of his nature so be careful because when you buy into that you're off to pantheism and you're off to the new age that you know you can have a revelation of God and creation sit in the park and smoke dope and I'll be close to God no this is the revelation of God right here it's a safety the only reason that we know that those other things exclaim his glory is because it tells us right here in the verses that reveals to us that in creation God speaks of certain parts of his nature and his attribute but it's revealed to us in years not revealed to us in nature it was over this we wouldn't know so we are sticking in here as we're going through the revelation of creation and all that took place is in here and it's not in creation itself it's kept for us on record it's given to us and we have come to the seventh day and all of the heavens and the earth are completed and the host of them now that word host when you study through the Old Testament is used of both the stellar heavens the stars and it's use of angels also so the host of them were also finished in the days of creation and on the seventh day God ceased from his creative work which he had made and he rested from all his work not in the sense that we need rest and God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created now so this Sabbath this is not the enforcement of the Hebrew Sabbath certainly it is pointing there but it's not where they receive their enforcement of it will see that in the law but it is interesting that that scientists tell us that your immune system kind of shuts down one day and seven to remain healthy that every six days it takes a day off almost like God knew what he was doing interesting I have friends that are Jews that live in Israel and it's very interesting several times I've had the opportunity to be with them and go to their house on Sabbath to go there on Saturday and it's really a remarkable experience to see a mom and a dad and two kids get up in the morning not do anything don't answer the phone and they put everything in the crock pot the day before you know no television no radio they get up everything's ready and they do nothing they do nothing they sit out in front of the house and drink soda and eat chips and look at Jerusalem and talk about God I've had a few chances to do it I think this is an amazing thing I really know it's not enforced on us as Christians but it sure is a fun thing and last year my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday I said I want to wake up on my birthday roll over go back to sleep and get out of bed the next day that's what I want I want a day off I didn't get it but that's what I wanted I wanted a day off so the Sabbath here and creation in its pristine perfect state you know with no pollution no beer cans on the side of the road no trash cans no smog floral scent everywhere I imagine water that had never been touched or polluted or dumped in and we'll look at the rivers and just it's very difficult for us to imagine exactly what that was like no thorns no thistles I imagine no mosquitoes or I imagine all that's part of the fall it tells us this in in Romans it says for the earnest expectation of the creation waited for the manifestation of the sons of God for the creation was made subject to vanity not willingly but by reason of him who has subjected the same in hope because the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God for we know that the whole creation grown with and travel it in pain together until now the book tells the Romans that the creation itself is subject to vanity it's in a fallen state I mean we look at the the the redwood forest or we look at some of the flowers in the spring we look at how beautiful so much of creation is but the Bible tells us that this is the fallen state of creation I think it's hard for us to imagine what mankind was like in his unfallen state we'll talk about that a little I think creation must have been incredible also in its unfallen state so the Bible tells us that the very creation itself today is groaning and travailing waiting for the time that it will be liberated when Christ comes and sets up his kingdom and Isaiah we get a little picture of the the peace in the animal kingdom again no more carnivorous beasts of the lion and the wolf and the lamb and the and the the sucking kid and the calf laying down together eating straw like an ox what an incredible scene it must have been so God now here finished the cessation of his work verse 4 says this these are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created in the day that the Lord God hath made the earth again and the heavens plural and every plant of the field before it was in the earth it seems to be speaking of cultivated now crops it's not the way it describes this and every herb of the field before it grew for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth there was no man to till the ground but there went up a mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground so the generations of the heavens and the earth in the day that they're created now it's an interesting phrase here the generations of the heavens and the earth tell it off or to lead off in the in the Hebrew we have it eleven times in the book of Genesis one of the interesting things about it is there are some scholars who feel that Moses as he wrote the Pentateuch much like Luke as you read the introduction to Luke's gospel he said he talked to eyewitnesses he examined the evidence that was there and then through the moving of the spirit he says guided another than from above he compiled his information and then as the spirit directed he wrote his gospel there are some that feel that Moses had access to writings possibly things that Adam had written possibly things that Abraham had written that Moses we have these eleven times these are the generations of and it could possibly be that there were ancient writings as as the spirit of God moved Moses that he compiled his information that he had records there that he that he drew from under the spirit of I'm I'm not saying someone else wrote Genesis be careful I'm saying Moses did but there's a possibility that he had resources that that you and I know nothing of besides that the spirit had preserved and that he had available to him some scholars fear that I don't know it says it may it may be the possibility these are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created in the day that and this is the first mention in the Bible of this compound name the Lord God Yahweh Elohim in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens and every plant of the field before it was in the earth and every herb of the field before it grew for the Lord God did not cause it to rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the ground now we're not sure I'm gonna say this is it it talks about man tilling the ground here and then Adam is told to dress and to keep the Garden of Eden we're not sure what's involved with that because as the curse comes then God says through the sweat of your brow you're gonna get your food from the earth and that thorns and thistles would come forth so before the fall we're not sure what the work of tilling or keeping or dressing the garden was because evidently it was not with sweat of the ground like we know work today it was not needful to water when we keep our gardens that's part of what we do watering and says there was no rain but a mist went up from the ground and watered the face of the earth and had its own you know when you go in Acme and those things come on to keep the vegetables fresh had one of those once in a while you know just keep the garden watered so we're not sure exactly what was involved in the unfallen state of keeping and dressing and guarding Eden and tilling but it mentions that at at this point now a vapor went up from the ground there went up a mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground now it doesn't rain until the flood and we'll see when the flood takes place and and realize this too it isn't just the rain that causes the problem it clearly tells us the fountains of the deep are broken up there were there wouldn't be enough rain in the sky to take water on the face of the earth above the top of the mountains of Ararat where this boat is but the possibility at this point is is that there was a vapor canopy that in the upper atmosphere there was a vapor barrier than infrared ultraviolet lights were were filtered we're gonna see Adam even after he falls physically he lives about 900 years the antediluvians those who live before the flood longevity was still in place there to a degree and we see them living 700 years 800 900 years it is until after the flood when the average age of man then God says will be set at three score and ten seventy years will become the average age of man but it seems through the purity of the gene gene frequency and in that point in time and the and the lack of the spread of disease and the multiplication of bacterium early on there was this wonderful longevity and if man had never fallen which is what an incredible thing it would have been to go on and not know anything about death at all and by the way when someone dies in your family someone close and you find yourself going through that mourning process and they say even Christians go through a mourning process from a year to a year and a half just going through those emotions because God has not given us an emotion that is capable of handling death because he never planned for us to experience death and in the new heavens and the new earth there will be no death so we find ourselves in the mourning process dredging ourselves and from down deep looking for the proper way to relate to that kind of loss and going through all kinds of mental and emotional exercises and do we clean the drawers do we clean the closet do we wear the clothes do we keep the clothes do we you know we go through so much of highs and lows and none of that in this state there's no shame there's no death there's no fear there's no war there's no getting up and watching CNN there's none of this that we face on a daily basis not the stress of life or the pressure there's no mother-in-law's there's just you know it's a completely different existence at this point in time man is in paradise he's in the garden with God a mist goes up it says and is watering the entire face of the ground and the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath by the way this isn't in the plural of lives and man became a living soul just an interesting verse the way it it describes their a relationship that no animal had with the Creator in regards to the animals in the plant life it said let the earth bring forth in regards to man has said God formed of the dust of the ground and only man that God himself breeze into his nostrils the breath of life God is that involved with man and breeze into his nostrils the breath of lives by the way and then it says so man became a living soul and it's emphatic in the Hebrew it says what it really says is and he breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives so man became at that instant the idea is there's no process of evolution here it says he formed of the dust of the ground and man was at that point in time unanimated the body was there made of the same 17 elements that are in the dirt is what you're made of same 17 elements in your body and man evidently made but unanimated and then God breeze into his nostrils the breath of lives and instantly then it's emphatic he became to be at that moment is what the Hebrew indicates a living soul so it's an interesting process here now breathing into his nostril the breath of lives it's not the rule out there the breath of lives the spirit it's he popped into his nostrils its breath but there's some interesting verses were that is synonymous and I'll read you don't have to turn Job 27 verse 3 says all the while my breath is in me and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils again Job says this in the book of Job it says the Spirit of God has made me and the breath there it is of the Almighty have given me life again it says if he set his heart upon man speaking of God and if he gather unto unto himself his spirit and his breath all flesh shall perish the idea is there are there places in the Old Testament where the breath of God the Spirit of God are synonymous and and here what is saying it's not it's not struggling this verse with the difference between the soul and the spirit is simply saying that God formed man of the breath of the dust of the earth he personally was involved and then God himself with the this unanimated frame breathe into his nostrils God himself did this the very breath the spirit of lives and man became a living being that's what it's saying it's only about the intimacy as we read this verse so man becomes a living soul and the Lord God planted a garden eastward and we're not sure eastward of what the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden or was there an area called Eden and in the eastern part of Eden a particular garden that of course then would be called the garden of Eden even means delight by the way the Hebrew word means delight the Lord God planted a garden now he's the landscaper some of you guys are landscapers I know you think you're good the Lord God planted this garden eastward in Eden and there he put the man whom he had formed and look at this out of the ground made the Lord God to grow look at this word every tree that is pleasant to the site in the garden of Eden every single species that's pleasant to look at God made we leave one out he made to grow in this garden and everyone that's good for food this is a nice place to be and the tree of life also in the midst of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil so he describes this garden that man is placed into now more information about the garden of Eden and a river went out of Eden to water the garden now it seems like the doesn't say the river came out of the garden of Eden it comes out of Eden itself and seems to water the garden and from there it parted into four different rivers into four heads now the name of the first is the peace on we're not sure what now now some of them you'll be familiar with as we read through but let me say this they are not the same geographical flows that there were before the flood in the flood the whole earth experience and upheaval and it seems that after the flood in the days of the earth was divided the continental drifts took place so exactly where the garden of Eden is and all kinds of people look for you know because the Tigris is one of the rivers is mentioned here and the Euphrates is one of the rivers mentioned clearly as great spiritual and prophetic significance in the Bible this piece on some feel is the river Ganges we have no real evidence for that as we read the Gihon again we're not sure some say that's the Nile because it goes through the land of Ethiopia but wherever they what ever single river they at one time parted from all of that has changed and we have no exact place today that we can identify as Eden or the garden that was in Eden but one of the interesting things is evidently some of these names survived from the antediluvians we're going to read the word Assyria here now evidently but then that's not the land of Assyria today Iran that is that is named after an Assyria that existed before the flood that evidently was remembered have a lot we read about in Genesis 10 and Genesis 25 and you hear about you read through the Bible evidently a name those who remembered conditions before the flood through known as sons use that name we have the Gihon spring and Hezekiah's tunnel there in in Israel Jerusalem the same word as the Gihon river here but obviously not the same river but in memory at one point in time of an antediluvian situation we're going to read about the river Hittikal which is the Tigris River in Daniel chapter 10 I believe verse 4 there Daniel mentions when he's in Babylon being seated by the river Hittikal which is the Tigris not the same Tigris but again a remembrance from conditions before the flood so it's interesting and we have Euphrates mentioned here too so let's look at this it says there was a river that went out of Eden to water the garden and from there was parted and became into four heads the name of the first is Pishon that is it which can passeth the whole land of Havilah where there is gold and the gold of that land is good we never heard a bad gold but this is really good there is a bedulim which is probably speaking of some kind of resin we're not sure and onyx stones and this particular kind of onyx whatever it was must have been incredible because it's taken note of the name of the second river is Gihon some feel that's the Nile we can't say that for sure lost in the flood the same as that the whole land of Ethiopia the name of the third river is Hittikal again Daniel 10 for that is it which goes toward the east of Assyria and the fourth is Euphrates that's one that we're familiar with and the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it so whatever conditions were before the the fall we know this that man was not just in some spaced out condition at that point time there was work there was service you know it says in the new heavens and a new earth in Revelation chapter 22 that his servant shall serve him even in our glorified state when we're in heaven we're not just going to be around on harps you know playing playing harps on clouds like the cartoons they're going to be stuff to do and it's not going to be like oh man I have to vacuum here you know it isn't going to be you know you got to get up Monday morning cup of coffee get going in heaven that kind of stuff to do it's going to be a joy it will be serving him will be part of what makes us vibrant and makes us alive will thirst to be in his service and evidently what Adam was given here is is a relationship with this garden to dress it and to keep it and again not with the sweat of his brow that comes after the fall we're not sure exactly what his relationship was with the garden how amazing that must have been he's put there to dress it and to keep it and the Lord God commanded the man saying of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die now I'm not sure what the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was you know we we identify on our anatomy and Adam's apple and somehow we think that this was an apple tree that he ate from it doesn't tell us that in the Bible by the way he's be Adam's apple I don't know all that stuff you know that's not biblical was it doesn't necessarily tell us there was some kind of a fruit on this tree that was poisonous what it says is this tree was called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil no doubt named in the eternal counsels of God because he knew that from eating from that tree man would then have the knowledge of good and evil in other words it could have been anything on their grapes pomegranates anything whatever it was it the evil was not necessarily in the fruit itself but it was in transgressing the law of God to take the fruit that the know the fall of men took place in the knowledge of good and evil came and the idea is this well you know then you're saying well why in the world that God put that tree there you know couldn't he have left well enough alone I mean we got a nice garden we got a tree of life you got Adam and Eve why you know I do that well here's the reason I think I'll probably correct as soon as I get to heaven we were created for his pleasure we were created to fellowship with him again you know that if you have children at home you understand that you have children your children become the greatest theologians in your life you learn more theology from them than any author or any professor as you look at them and you think you know the Bible says that he loves us more than we love our own children and that's always an encouragement to me because I don't feel that lovable you know I'm crazy about my kids I'll lay down my life for them don't mess with them they're my kids but even as a you know as a pastor it's hard for me sometimes I forget that God has that attitude about me that's my kids sitting there in that bar stool don't mess with him because that bar stool used to be in a bar now that bar stools in the church don't mess with him that's my kid I love him I'm crazy about him I go in his room when he's asleep and I look at him and I mess with him and I he's my kid God created us for that now it wouldn't mean anything to me if my children at home were just programmed little androids and and they just went I love you daddy I love you daddy you know be nice one day a week maybe but there are those days you know that it might be nice but the idea is what would it mean to me you know a bionic kid you know a little robot that looks like a kid and the idea is there's no free will there well God gave man that capacity he was not bound by the instinct that the salmon and the migrating birds and and the beasts of the earth were were chained shackled by instinct in a very wonderful way and they serve their purposes in that but man was created higher than that man was given the capacity to choose but it without an option there is no choice you know it would be like if you're if your kids come in I want ice cream I want ice cream I want ice cream you say okay what do you want vanilla or chocolate you just take out vanilla you want vanilla or chocolate what do you mean do I want vanilla or chocolate all there is is vanilla you know there has to be if there's free will there's no purpose in it unless there is a way to exercise it there has to be choice and because like with our children God wanted a relationship with mankind that was voluntary that man was choosing to be with him that is how love is substantiated that is why love is real if when your wife or your husband or the person you're in love with they want to be with you or your child you know it's terrible if you have to force them you know the Bible says this are you better you know it just doesn't work that way because because part of our makeup and we're creating his image and likeness is that mutual care for one another well God wants that with us Jesus tells us the greatest commandment is the love the Lord God you're with all your heart soul mind and strength as God views his commandments he says the greatest one in the heart of God is that we would love him but not just commanded to love him with all of our heart soul mind and strength that tells us a little bit about what he thinks about us that he wants our love well if there was no tree of the knowledge of there was no opportunity to transgress if there was no choice if man's given the capacity to choose and no choice to make it's invalid and God wanted love and he wanted man in his own image so the knowledge of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was there there had to be an option without the option love is not real then you're just programmed now here's the wonderful thing about it Adam and Eve sinned the fall has come on humanity but you and I now have the option to come back to the Lord ask forgiveness be born again by the Spirit and then say to God of our own will give me the mind of Christ take away my old mind conform me into the image of your son and then when we're conformed into that image and likeness it will be of our own choice and then when he takes us to heaven and this corruption puts on in corruption in this mortal puts on immortality there there is no sin there is no curse there is no tree of the knowledge of good and evil it is the long way of us exercising our freedom to be his bride and finally being brought home of our own choice to a place where there is no option to sin I think so there had to be the choice it's placed there the knowledge the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is there in the garden God says in the day that you eat of it you will surely die and the Lord God said it is not good that man should be alone I love to do these verses when I have a wedding these are my favorites it is not good that the man should be alone now by the way we've been through these days of creation evidently this is the sixth day as we come to chapter 2 it isn't chronologically days later chapter 2 picks up pieces of chapter 1 and enlarges them for us so it is on the sixth day it seems that Adam names the animals and then God makes Eve for Adam because it says back in chapter 1 there verse 26 God said let us make man in our image after our likeness and let them plural have dominion verse 27 so God created man in his own image and the image of God created he him male and female created he them so it gives us the indication it was at the end of the sixth day that Eve was also made and that's the the scene we're in now we don't know how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before the fall but it seems to be the sixth day now and and we're getting a kind of recapping and getting an enlargement of what happened on that day so God says what's not good that man should be alone the first time in the Bible God said something isn't good all through creation every day said all that's good that's very good it was creation now he looks at Adam he says it's not good for this guy to be alone by the way man if you're married there was a point when God looked at you and said it's not good for this one to be alone so I will make him a helper meet for him M E E T by the way if you know the King James suitable more properly corresponding and it gives us the indication that that Adam was not complete in and of himself now what God's gonna do is he's gonna pray the animals before Adam male and female with their partner to let Adam name them so that Adam gets a visual lesson of what God's trying to tell him God saying Adam is not good for you to be alone I'm so I'm not alone mean you were here you know and he said no Adam you don't understand you know there's we're gonna make a woman what's a woman you know I mean you know you have to understand he's in paradise only big just got there he doesn't know anything you know this is this other process that he's gonna be introduced to so God says now it's not good for him to be alone I'm gonna make him a helper that is corresponding that's an important word because it gives you an insight into your marriage a co-respondent is someone who responds the other way have you noticed that if you're married you say ping and your wife says pong you say laughs she says right she says pull over and ask for directions you say no let me drive another thousand miles I think I'm close so your wife is your co-respondent you are not complete physically and we're glad for the physical differences you were not complete emotionally you were not complete spiritually there is something in her she is not just female by a by biology but she's female by emotion by makeup there's a mystery and a wonder to it and you have to wonder when you're having one of those days why does she always do this you know that she's co-responding that's her job and I could go through a list tonight you know I don't like to go shopping my wife thinks if God gives her a spot by the door that means that she's supposed to be on a mission there you know I don't even want to go there we co-respond we're just different now I think early on in marriage lots of times that is an offense and the husband and wife end up you know they're killing each other they're fighting if you if the husband wasn't so insecure and the wife was was understanding that he's not dumb God made him that way he's you know he's different he's different you know all through the all through the Old Testament wisdom is always in the feminine gender always you know my contribution to the home is this is that I am immune to my surroundings I just am kind of able to plod onward you know like an ox the house is burning down oh really honey you know just you know whereas my wife always has her antennas up she's the sensitive one did you see that did you see this did you see that did you see that person they look sad did you know that you noticed that you notice that and I'm thinking I didn't notice any of this you know and and she's she looks at me and thinks you know my god you can live through a day without worrying you know this man has survived and he's just immune to his surroundings and I'm learning from her there's so much more going on than I ever realized we really do complete one another we really do spiritually in the ministry I can't imagine doing what I do without her in so many ways but I think take a hint there's a there's there's a design here this is not a mistake and instead of being insecure or offended or threatened by it realize this this is a design there is the two making a completeness now be patient will go on there I hate to tell you this hasn't been a perfect marriage since Adam and Eve but we still have avenues that we can travel in wisdom that produce healthy marriages now God said it's not good that man should be alone so I will make a helper that is corresponding suitable for him out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fellow of the air and notice God brought them to Adam to see what he would call them and whatsoever Adam called every living creature that was the name thereof and the interesting implication in Hebrew is you know like Isaac was named Itzhak because Sarah laughed and Itzhak means laughter Abraham's name was changed because he would be the father of many nations the indication here in the Hebrew is that Adam genius program by God given the mind of Christ in the instant that he was created when he was animated was brilliant enough to give each animal a name that was related to its characteristics that's what's indicated here amazing now we wonder well this seems late on the sixth day could God possibly have gotten everything passed and it seems just to be the species that were that were there in Eden or maybe the domestic the ones that would have a particular relationship I don't know Adam gave names to all the cattle to fell of the air to every piece of the field but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him so God saying I see what I mean you know Mr. and Mrs. lion you know Mr. and Mrs. cow you know Mr. and Mrs. pooch Mr. Adam you know no mrs. Adam you know so there's there's something going on here I think and the Lord God caused a deep sleep now this is not a normal sleep you may have some deep ones but this is different the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept and he God took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof and with the rib which the Lord God had taken from man made he a woman and brought her unto the man now it's very interesting passage first of all I would say this single guys I think this is you know we should pray that God will do this to you cause a deep sleep to fall upon you till he brings your partner that way you'll stay out of trouble he took one of his ribs it's in the Hebrew curved side is what is kind of indicated by the word it's more than a rib because Adam says when he sees Eve this is flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone so it wasn't just a rib it was it was part of him flesh and bone that was taken and it says with the rib the Lord God made and we have introduced a completely different word now God formed man of the dust of the ground but he built Eve the Hebrew word is builded he's not forming Eve and she's not made from the dust of the ground he's she is from Adam and he's building her even in our vernacular today we have you know what she's really built this is where it comes from yeah I know you're laughing but if I hey I'm trying to be serious I wouldn't say something like that just to you know it's kind of a weird thing but he built her there's a very interesting implications as we study that word that and and the idea is as she brings she's brought to Adam care is insinuated there is responsibility immediately because she's not formed from the dust of the ground she is taken from him and built by God to be his helper and that word help means to surround it means to sucker to encourage doesn't mean to be a boss we go to work tomorrow your boss is not your helper you're his helper she she was there to help to to make him complete to filling the missing things and he and and also Adam to her obviously so there's a very interesting relationship immediately insinuated here that God built Eve and then it's interesting it says God brought her to Adam to see what he would call her you know Adams asleep he's waking up from anesthesia you know looking around and and here and here is this creature walking by him and he goes you know love is that you know now I understand you know she's the most beautiful woman in the world she is the only woman in the world but she's the most beautiful woman in the world now by the way when we get to verse 24 there's a therefore because of these things a man should leave his mother father cleave unto his wife the two should become one flesh they're both naked the man's wife they're not ashamed Adam and Eve did not leave their mother and father Moses takes this Jesus takes this in the New Testament therefore because it's not good for man to be alone and let me back up and say this not everybody supposed to be married you are not in a less spiritual state if you are married and you are not in a less spiritual state if you are single I will tell you this it's much easier to be single and want to be married than it is to be married want to be single so move cautiously as you go forward not everybody supposed to be married we know that Jesus says there are those who are given a gift of being single by God for the kingdom but as we as we look at this scene it says therefore shall a man leave his mother father that's related to us not how many therefore because it's not good for men to be alone generally because God is the one who builds the perfect partner and I don't want to hear by the way and we hear in the church sometimes you know it was never God's will that I married her in the first place don't tell me that cut me a break you know what you need to do is take some cinder blocks and block up that exit you got in the back corner there because there ain't one if you're married to somebody it is God's will for you to be married to that person so you either make up your mind to be miserable for the rest of your life or to start to build that marriage and make something out of it according to God's Word because those are the only two options divorce is not an option it may happen but it is not an option biblically and because it's not good for man to be alone because God makes I believe partners you know it and and believe me your partner will be your correspondent you know if you remain single God's not done with you you know he's still conforming you into the image and likeness of Christ so when he put you in the pressure cooker of marriage you know a wife or husband is a great chisel to hasten the process of you being conformed the image and likeness of Christ you'll take advantage of that no doubt and if you have kids that'll really help hasten the process to of you but let me tell you something if you can't be a single man Christian man and stay pure sexually you know if we get couples come to us and they're living in sexual sin and we get married we don't we're not gonna marry him there needs to be accountability there needs to be purity you need to honor God because if you can't because we have hundreds of single people to come here and honor God they live in purity and they and they trust God and they're seeking for the right partner so if you're living in in sexual sin as a single man you'll never be able to be a Christian husband because that's more difficult than being a single Christian person if you can't walk with God now we have no guarantee that you're gonna remain in the marriage or honor God then when things are harder in some ways and to be a Christian heart a father's even more even giving more of yourself well now there's a wonder to it I would never want to be a single again it is for me it's a wonder to look in the face of my kids to be with my wife there is a design in it and it is as sacred as standing in the pulpit and preaching it is as sacred as any other occupation we think that we can involve ourselves in for God the Bible says he who finds a wife finds a good thing no offense girls it's just making a point a good thing and has found favor with the Lord that gold and riches are the inheritance that you get from fathers but a prudent wife is from the Lord God was watching out for me now one of the interesting things about where we are here Adam says now verse 23 this now is bone of my I understand mrs. Adam this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh and now he's still in the naming mode he was naming all the animals he says she shall be called woman I don't know if God said oh no the namings over now her name is going to be even but I'll name her a woman the reason because she was taken out of man not out of the ground very interesting now we're gonna have to pick up next week with the therefore something that has always intrigued me from the first time I saw it going through the Bible is this in the end of our chapter here says the man and the woman they were both naked they were not ashamed after they sin and after the fall of mankind takes place at that point they are aware that they're naked so there's been some change I believe that the change is this that before the fall Adam and Eve were in a spiritual state they walked with God they were able to enter into his holy presence there was no shame there was no flaw created as image and likeness I believe they were clothed they were naked but clothed in light it says in Psalm 104 verse 2 that God clothes himself in light again in Revelation 19 remember there the in our resurrected form we are covered with white linen pure and white but then it says this white linen is not caught not earthly linen but it is the very righteousness of the Saints so Adam and Eve were created with the righteousness of God they were created as image and likeness I believe that before the fall they were clothed in light and I have another question when I think about these things you don't have to listen you can put your fingers in your other question I think is in in first Corinthians 15 it says this it says flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven evidently flesh and bone can inherit the kingdom of heaven when Jesus who is the second Adam the last Adam and it speaks of him as the last Adam in his life giving condition he's a life-giving spirit in his resurrected form he said to Thomas who is afraid touch me doth a spirit have flesh and bone using about flesh and blood all of his blood was drained on the cross but his body was resurrected out of the tomb and that body was not receiving its life from the blood it tells us in Leviticus now the life is in the blood that's why it's poured out in sacrifice but evidently in the resurrected form the life is no longer in the blood Moses when he was up in the the mount to receive the law was there 40 days and 40 nights and it says he neither ate nor drank now he should have died something else was sustaining his life it was the presence of God he comes down he breaks the only guy to break all ten commandments at one time and then he goes begun then God says to Moses why don't you carve the next two tablets okay and then he sends him back up for 40 more days so here you got a guy on an 80-day fast no water no food and when he comes down he's glowing he's shiny he's got light on him his life was being sustained from something other than blood and when Adam says of Eve this is flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone I wonder if she had a different drive system before the fall I wonder if there was no blood involved before the fall and I wonder if that's why blood's always drained out in the sacrificial system if it's related directly to sin somehow and I wonder when we're raptured are we all gonna leave five courts behind as a testimony that'll freak out a lot of people and even in Ephesians 5 when it talks about our relationship with our wife like Christ with the church it says that we are flesh of his flesh and bone of his bone there's no mention of blood when it mentions blood it says we don't wrestle against flesh and blood that's talking about the physical realm but flesh and bone seems to have an interesting context as we go through scripture so you're just listening to my paranoia and my schizophrenia sorry we're here but it's just something I wonder I just kind of imagine Adam and Eve walking in open fellowship with God I imagine Eden in an unfallen state as having Eden itself being access to the spiritual realm I imagine them face to face with God clothed in light I imagine that like Jesus after his resurrection the first Adam could also step in and out of this dimension as Jesus appeared and disappeared I imagine they had access to more than one dimension and I think when they fell the light went out life was no longer derived directly from God like Moses derived it when he was on the mountain because man was cut off so then life was in the blood system and the physical body deteriorating and I think we really have little idea of what were intended to be as we read again in Psalm 8 you know what is man that thou art mindful of him where the Son of Man that thou visitest him thou hast made him a little lower than the angels temporarily evidently our original state was higher than the angels higher than the angels and I think what will it be like in the resurrection I know it's gonna be far out I know it's gonna be sci-fi but it seems we're gonna have a different drive system if we can go through walls and zoom around the universe and by the way I think we'll be able to travel much faster than the speed of light I think the speed of light will be like a you go there I think we'll travel at the speed of thought which is much faster than the speed of light and not bound to its dimensions now I'm excited you know look if you're here tonight and you don't know Jesus Christ your personal or a savior no I'm not out of my mind I'm excited we're going to heaven we're gonna be like this our body's gonna be transformed it says it's gonna be fashioned like unto his glorious body that was risen from the dead that stepped in and out of the room that appeared and disappeared in a tremendous capacity we're looking forward to that no more getting tired no more Jenny Craig no more coffee in the morning you know no more dragging no more chronic fatigue no more vitamins no I'm no more geritol I am excited I'm excited oh what are you excited about living your life out in this world are you excited about the next lid you're gonna buy or the next line of coke you're gonna snort or the next time you're gonna have sex what are you excited about that's all temporary and it passes away and it's going to be gone it's so remarkable for me to sit here and look at you and think you know I don't know all of your names and the church has grown but I know in heaven we're gonna have forever to get to know each other what is your story I looked at you every week sometimes I saw you crying sometimes I saw you happy you know what a remarkable thing what a future that our relationship is just beginning and that's so important to me with my wife and my kids you know if I die in a hospital bed and my kids are standing around my bed I don't care if they're trash collectors or car mechanics or the president United States as long as I know they're born again I can close my eyes and know I'm gonna see him again in the morning that's all that matters and what we care about you tonight if you don't know Christ is that we're gonna see you there he got up from the dead Buddha's in his pot somewhere in a temple Mohammed's in his tomb Confucius is in his tomb Zoroaster's in his tomb and Grant's in his tomb there's an empty tomb in Jerusalem that's what all of this is about you know you go to a viewing isn't it strange you go to a viewing and see somebody laying there and it's always so strange death no matter how many times we think we're familiar with it is such a strange visitor when it comes across our path and it seems so final it seems so strange to see someone in a viewing someone laid out in a casket well just imagine on the third day that person getting back up again you know that's what happened and that's what we're excited about that's me because somebody has beat the rap somebody has beat death and defeated it and the Bible says of the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in us that that spirit is also going to quicken our moral bodies and raise us from the dead and the death no longer bears that fear upon us it tells us in Ephesians I mean in Hebrews chapter 4 that chapter 2 that that people are subject to the bondage of fear their entire life the bond of the fear of death their entire life that man lives with that hanging over his head the fear of death if you don't know Jesus Christ tonight that can be removed tonight if you'll ask Jesus to forgive your sins if you'll ask him to be your Lord and Savior and you ask him to come and dwell in your heart then the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead takes a permanent residence in you and he will also raise your body because your sins are forgiven they'll raise your body from the dead and you'll enjoy eternal life in his presence with us let's stand and pray so I encourage you before you leave if you don't know Christ slip down the front we'll pray with you we'll give you a Bible it just would be our honor and privilege to pray with you and see you come to know Jesus as your Savior this evening so you think about that as we're singing all you need to do when the service is over slip down the front pastors and elders will be here we love to pray with you I love to see the same thing happen to you that's happened to us you know and you might be saying these people are crazy let me tell you something if we just live this life with hope and joy and when you're dead you're dead what have we lost but if we're right what have you lost that's the question and Paul says in fact Jesus is risen from the dead
