Sermon Transcription
God lives and works today. Who experiences his reality the most? He who often calls upon the name of Jesus in prayer. Such people have experienced his reality through the centuries, to their great joy. If you too long for God to be more than just a concept in your life, listen to today's meditation by Basilia Schlenk called The Power of the Name of Jesus. Jesus Christ, the victor's name, every knee shall bend before you. Seated on the heavenly throne, all creation shall adore you. For your name such power wields, only triumph victory yields. Has someone ever given you a good suggestion about how to take advantage of an opportunity, and then said, but don't say that I told you, don't mention my name. Our Lord Jesus reacts quite differently in his great love for us, because he wants us to be helped. He urges us to use his name. In John 14 14, he says, if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. We all sense how the powers of darkness are threatening the earth today, because the commandments of God have been rejected. Injustice, criminality, violence, all kinds of addiction and rebellion against God have gained the upper hand. We are in danger. Only one thing can help us, to call upon the name of Jesus. For his name brings help and deliverance in every situation. Nothing is so important in our lives as fighting the battle of faith, by calling upon the name of Jesus, and ridding our hearts of sin, cost what it may. Who calls upon the name of Jesus often? He who knows that he needs help and deliverance. He who knows something of the horror of sin, and the reality of his own chains of sin. Jesus knows how unhappy our sin makes us, and he wants to make us happy, because he loves us so much. Therefore, he wants to free us from all of our bondages to sin, and this happens when we call upon his name, Jesus, in our prayers. It's not enough to call upon the name of Jesus once. It's a long struggle, and there may be many apparent defeats. However, if we don't get tired of calling upon Jesus' name, we can be assured of final victory. Could there be any greater privilege than to be able to call upon this name of Jesus? For Jesus keeps his word. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
