The Devils Delicious Delicacy - Part 2
Phil Beach Jr.
Sermon Summary
Phil Beach Jr. emphasizes the destructive nature of pride in his sermon 'The Devil's Delicious Delicacy - Part 2', urging listeners to focus on their own sins rather than the faults of others. He highlights that the Holy Spirit convicts us of our pride, which is the enemy of our conscience and a tool for the devil to devour us. Beach encourages humility as the antidote to pride, reminding us that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. He illustrates this through biblical examples, including Adam and Eve's fall and Isaiah's vision of God, stressing the importance of acknowledging our need for God's mercy. The sermon concludes with a call to confess our pride and seek a humble heart to experience God's grace.

Your grace and your mercy and thank you Lord that when the Holy Spirit comes Into our hearts He will trouble us Not about our brother sins Or about our wives sins or our husband's sins. He'll trouble us about our own Sins Our own sins Lord help us Today as We talk about things that We need help in Help us Lord to confess our proud heart so we can have eyes to see I pray Please Lord help me Help me Lord, I pray My Pride is my greatest enemy My love for myself is my greatest enemy Lord. I Confess my need to you. I confess my need to my brothers and sisters. I Pray Lord that you'll have mercy on me and Help me Help me Lord you promised to help sinners You promised to help people who are sick and People who come as lepers and Lord I come to you as one in need today. I Thank you for Calvary and for the love That you proved at Calvary. We thank you Lord in Jesus name Amen first Peter chapter 5 verse 5 Colette read this scripture Be clothed with Humility for God Resists the proud But gives grace to the humble humble yourselves therefore Under the mighty hand of God That he may exalt you in due time Casting all your care upon him for he cares for you Be sober Be vigilant Because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion Walketh about Continuously seeking Whom he may devour now it is no coincidence That the context of this scripture verse 8 Referring to our adversary the devil as a roaring lion is Walking about seeking whom he may devour it is no coincidence that the context of that scripture is in the Setting of pride and humility Now we touched on this a little bit last week and we look to the Lord to touch on it again before we do a few weeks ago I Was sharing what the Lord was teaching me about a healed conscience and How the Lord wants to heal our conscience and make it work We learned that a conscience is a very wonderful gift from God and how? Jesus heals our conscience the conscience is that part of our spirit That helps us to know what's going on inside It helps us to know what's going on inside and we learned that Jesus is most concerned about what's going on inside Not what's going on outside? We learned that David or Samuel when he was looking for a king to anoint Went to the sons of Jesse and he looked outwardly He looked at the color the look the hair the stature and he was attempting to find God's man through looking outwardly and Then the Lord rebuked David if you were matter Samuel and said Samuel Samuel Man looks on the outward, but God looks at the heart God sees the heart God Gave us a conscience as the eyes of our heart So that we could be aware of what's going on inside and you remember the the Lord Helped me to learn this lesson and Continues to help me learn this lesson because I'd gone to work and I was unkind to my wife before I left and I went to work and one of the ladies that I often see it Asked me how I was doing and in a moment's time I knew I had to tell her the truth and I said, I'm not doing too well and she said why I said because my conscience is bothering me and she opened her mouth and she couldn't believe it and I told her my conscience was bothering me because I was unkind to my wife and that I needed to call her and tell her I was sorry and As we As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we all got a chuckle out of it. The first thing she said was oh my god Would you talk to my husband? and So through that experience the Lord just awakened the reality of my conscience and I love my conscience I thank God for my conscience. My wife's not here. I was going to tell her I was sorry about something. So My conscience bothers me and See if we ignore our conscience then we lose touch with reality we lose touch with what's going on inside and then truth on the inward part begins to fade away and We begin to live a life of hypocrisy We begin to pretend We begin to as Norman shared last week We did watch that video it's quite remarkable, but I certainly can't explain the video because I don't understand it, but it was about Science and how not everything you see is actually true And we learned last week that that we live in a world of optical illusions That is as long as we are looking with the eyes of pride We don't see clearly. We don't see ourselves clearly and we don't see one another clearly and so the Lord wants to Show us himself because listen, there's no way to see who you really are until you see the Lord You remember in Isaiah and we'll get back to Peter in a moment You remember Isaiah in the year that King Uzziah died. I saw the Lord what happened to Isaiah after that What did he cry out? He said woe is me Woe is me For I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell among of among a people who are unclean But the first response that Isaiah had when he saw the Lord was he saw his own sin Now, isn't that interesting? Isaiah was a what a prophet He was called to what? Speak God's Word to a very rebellious people. But what did he first have to see? He was no better. He was no different than the people he was prophesying to He was in exactly the same state as those that God was commanding him to speak to Until we see that about ourselves We can't help our brothers and sisters, you know, why because when we try and help him we're helping him like the Pharisee We're coming to our brothers and sisters and we're trying to point out their faults when in fact Our fault is greater, but we're blind to it. And so the conscience is What God gives us To help us to be in touch With what's going on the greatest enemy to our conscience is pride pride does not want to live by the light of God's Word and the light that comes when we see Jesus and Then the stirring of our conscience that responds to that light pride Doesn't want that pride is a horrible enemy Pride the pride in my heart is so horrible It's it's an enemy to God and when I yield to that pride I become God's enemy I Become God's enemy to all that God wants to do. And so this is why Jesus wants to help us see how horrible pride is and so We see in this scripture here that the devil walks around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour You remember last week? The devil's Delicious delicacy What is the devil's delicious delicacy? pride The devil loves hearts that are fat and filled with the juice of pride He loves it. He loves hearts that are Inflated with the juice of pride and upon such he prays and Will swallow us up and our lives Will be ruined spiritually pride and So the Lord would want to help us to see our pride now listen God resists the proud and Satan's Satan devours the proud in heart Now we have to start at level zero and this is it Lord Help me to see my pride Not Lord help my brother to see his pride Help me to see my pride and help me to connect that pride with the destruction of That may be going on in my life with the broken marriage with the broken relationship Help me to see pride is the the fuel That Satan needs to devour us pride be sober be vigilant Listen all of the sobriety that God could give us Should result in a mind and in a vigilance With this end in mind Lord help me by your word and by your Holy Spirit to detect the slightest bit of pride when it begins to work in my life lest I Give the devil The right To begin to swallow me up and eat me for lunch Just think of a roaring lion walking to and fro seeking a prey That he could devour its pride pride The problem with pride is that pride will not admit its proud The Problem with the pride in Phil's heart is it won't admit that it's proud It'll justify its position. It'll justify its condition So that really makes it a real mess, what do I do? How can I acknowledge something that I don't even want to acknowledge? How can I do that? What do I do? Lord Help me Help me Jesus we come and ask for help now Contrary wise the Bible says God resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble Do you know? that The one thing that makes Satan sick so sick to his stomach is a humble heart a broken and a contrite heart and Do you know that a broken and a contrite heart will make the devil so sick? He'll vomit you right out of his mouth Right out of his stomach and there will find the grace for the Lord to work in our lives The devil can't stand broken contrite hearts He can't feed on that there's no power there he doesn't have power to work that's where the Lord draws near What does it say in Isaiah chapter 57 I am the Lord high and lofty and I dwell in the heavens But I also dwell with him that is of a humble and a contrite heart to revive the spirit of the broken hearted be clothed with humility for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble humble yourselves therefore Under the mighty hand of God Now to humble ourself under the mighty hand of God is not some great outward act that we do But it is a condition that God wants to give us in our hearts So that we walk in humility to walk in humility is to walk in a position in our heart in our heart Where we acknowledge Lord? Help me Lord as Colette was saying in her testimony. I don't have What it takes to live this Christian life to walk in humility gets very very practical super practical Lord forgive me and then we go to our brothers and sisters Forgive me for forgive me Colette. I don't know how to love you the way I should forgive me pray with me. Help me Lord To walk in humility is to acknowledge that we are in need to acknowledge that apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, I am the chiefest of sinners Now that position will be tested Greatly tested and You'll find that you don't have the goods in yourself to maintain that kind of a walk before the Lord Because of pride that lurks in your heart. I Have found that the pride in my heart is an enemy to all that I know to be true and the pride in my heart not only is an enemy to all that I know is true but the pride in my heart Can create the greatest play actor in the world I can become the greatest play actor in the world if I live in pride good theology a Nice smile, but living a lie living a lie Before God and before others By not acknowledging the truth about myself and the truth about myself is that my sins crucified the Lord Jesus Christ and that the horror that my Lord suffered on Calvary's tree were because of my sins my pride my selfishness my ego My self-love my Adulterate adulterate heart my lying heart my proud heart. I Crucified my Lord. That's what I am in myself and the only way I can walk in the good of What the Lord Jesus Christ provided for me at Calvary is If I come to him initially and keep coming to him as a sinner Recognizing that the grace That is at Calvary can only abundantly be lavished upon sinners Needy sinners broken-hearted sinners Sinners who have been given a humble heart and acknowledged their need before God That is what Christianity is all about. Do you ever sense the powers of hell? Working in your life and as you get into prayer you see that there's a connection between The powers of hell and darkness and pride You ever feel a rift in your relationship with someone and you connect it to pride and how it could be solved if you humble yourself and Come as a sinner and confess your sins and say I'm sorry but instead We walk in our pride and we want to be right we want to be just in our own eyes and The enemy keeps devouring and devouring and Devouring we refuse to humble ourself How horrible pride is isn't it how? Devastating pride is and we pray. Oh God deliver me And God says humble yourself and I will but like Norman said we want a deliverance another way Well, I'll just read my Bible more. Well, you can read your Bible for four hours a day and have a proud heart It'll do nothing nothing Go on a fast Might lose a few pounds, but most likely your pride will get worse Not better. God's way is come as a sinner But pride says no, I'll come another way. I'm gonna come another way I'm gonna get to God, but I'm not gonna get to God through humiliation. I'm not gonna get to God Listen Through Acknowledging my nakedness now Everyone, please turn to Genesis. I just want to share what the Lord's teaching me about these things Genesis chapter Genesis chapter 2 every single one of us Now listen, please listen carefully is struggling but when the Holy Spirit comes to your heart and to your home and Brings an encounter To you of the Lord Jesus Christ and you truly see him You suddenly become aware of your sin like never before and you can't believe How you were so concerned about others sins When you suddenly realize how big and Horrible and ugly your sin is now remember that we're remember that Remember the progression that we're making here The devil as a roaring lion the context is humility children Remember this make it as simple so children can understand it. The devil loves to eat pride Pride and he can't stand humility Can't stand humility It makes him nauseous when the Holy Spirit begins to work humility in a person or a group of people the devil gets sick to his stomach and if there's an area of our life that's been swallowed up by the devil and he's got us in his clutches and suddenly a humble heart starts growing in us and we have tears of genuine repentance and we come before the Lord and before our brothers and sisters as We really are and say I'm a pretender Wow, yeah, I'm a pretender. I'm a phony what I'm a phony Forgive me for pretending that I could ever help you. I The devil's power Starts weakening she can't stand a humble heart can't stand a broken heart and with that broken heart It's like Jonah in the whale he vomits us out What did Jonah start doing in the whale? Started repenting. He had a prayer meeting inside the Inside the belly of a fish Say Lord, I'm in a mess now My pride has got me snared and I can't get out Give me a humble heart Give me a humble heart Lord And you know what will happen the Lord will draw near the devil will vomit you out and God will begin to heal What you can heal? What no one else can heal? So we've got Humility and pride We've got the devil preys on pride the Lord turns his face against pride, but he draws near to the humble and the big old whale vomits out the humble now Here's the source of our pride listen carefully Genesis chapter 2 and The Lord God verse 21 and the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof and the rib which the Lord God taken out from man made he a woman and brought her unto the man and Adam said this is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh She shall be called woman Because she was taken out of man verse number 25 listen carefully and They were both naked Now brothers and sisters, please Understand this to mean something beyond physical Beyond the physical now Because God is spirit and the work of Calvary deals with the heart of man The message of redemption is in Genesis So I am no doubt they were physically naked, but that's not what we're interested in That's not what the Holy Spirit's interested in right now They were naked the man and his wife and were not Ashamed now they were naked no hypocrisy No pretending No, I say with my mouth one thing but my heart is something different Total transparency and they weren't ashamed why? Because there was nothing there to be ashamed of There was no corruption No corruption. There was nothing ugly inside there was no anger and wrath and lust and bitterness and Envy and jealousy and hatred Naked and unashamed Man and woman that is God's Ideal, that's God's plan. That's what God is after a man and a woman naked and unashamed What you see is what you get what I say is true with what is inside No hiding nothing, but something happened And we know Genesis chapter 3 and we know the serpent came and the serpent enticed Adam and Eve in their state of innocence to act in a manner that would be Inconsistent with what God wanted and we know what happened they sinned But now watch this verse 6 chapter 3 and when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes a tree to be desired to make one wise Now listen now what's happening is Eve is Ignoring her conscience she's ignoring Her heart and she's moving independent she's Listen, she's trying to get a life. She's trying to find fulfillment Somewhere other than in a person Who created her to find fulfillment in him alone? She's losing touch now with a vital part of herself She's moving out She took it and did eat and gave it to her husband verse 7 and the eyes of them both were opened and they knew that they were naked and They sewed fig leaves together and made aprons Here is the true nature of pride right here The true nature of pride. This is the battle that you and I are in right now Pride which is sin the indwelling presence of sin pride Knows that it's naked pride knows And instead of Coming in the state of corruption and depravity Let's bring this right down to where we live instead of Confessing our sin the moment God's light shines the moment our conscience troubles us We are moved by our pride and we what? hide We hide it's just what Adam did look what he did and They heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid Themselves from the presence of the Lord among the trees of the garden Listen, please Be sober Be vigilant Because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion is Continuously seeking whom he may devour who is he seeking to devour? the proud who hide Themselves the proud who when the light God was walking in the garden. His light was there Why did they hide themselves from God because God is light and in him is no darkness And when we see Jesus we see ourself for what we really are. We see our corruption we see our nakedness and we see the shame of our nakedness and And pride hates to be humiliated pride hates to admit what it truly is so we hide are you hiding today and The Lord God called unto Adam and said Adam Where are you? He wasn't talking about a physical Position here. He wasn't talking about a geographical location Adam Which tree are you hiding behind? Is it the third one or the fourth one? No, he's saying Adam. Where are you inside? What have you done Adam? What Adam? Where are you? Why are you hiding? Where are you Adam? Adam what happened now watch Watch this and he said I heard thy voice in the garden and I was afraid fear pride Makes you afraid of the light Why because I was naked Pride not only makes you afraid of the light, but pride Makes you afraid of your nakedness Now watch this Watch I hid myself and he said who told you that you were naked Why was God asking Adam questions Do you think God didn't know the answers? Of course he did God knows everything God was asking him questions because God was wanting him to what Get back in touch with his conscience Get back in touch with the breach in his conscience Get back in touch with what was going on. Adam. Adam was Adams declining spiritually He became untrue to his own heart he became untrue to his own conscience He became untrue to the one that created him and God is questioning him Adam Where are you Adam? Acknowledge your sin Adam acknowledge your guilt Adam Acknowledge it come before me naked say Oh Lord. I'm corrupt now I see something ugly in me that I don't see in you. There's something in me now Lord. That's not in you I don't like it. I don't like what I see God, but help me Jesus Wife I've sinned against God forgive me. That's a healthy friendship That's where the Lord can come and bring his glory but pride Here's what pride does Adam did you eat of the tree that I commanded you not to eat of? Yes, Lord. I did. I confess Eve. I Confess I sinned Brothers and sisters I sinned But what does Adam say? He plays the blame game He tries to justify his sin See my conscience is bothering me now. I don't want to talk about Adam anymore. I talk about me Because I see myself in Adam All of a sudden Adam's sins are not very big Guess whose sins are bothering me right now as I stand here yours No, my in This is me. This is what I do So I can't see this happening in you. It's happening in me Here's what Adam does when God asks him Adam? What's going on? Watch this and the man said the woman when you see your corruption and God asks you what's going on and You point your finger somewhere other than your own heart You are being Swallowed up by the devil. Oh, but you don't understand Are you an expert finger pointer I am So you remember I can't I'm up. It's not your sins. It's my sins I'm an expert finger pointer and I can't worry how many here know That they're a greater finger pointer than I am. It would be nice that Everybody here knew that they were a worse sinner than I was Because I'd feel a lot of mercy and compassion That might or might not be true But I can't worry about that I have to be true to my conscience and if it means confessing my sins to a hundred people of Which a hundred think I'm a worse sinner than they are Then that's my lot Then I pray you pray for me. Are we hearing I? Think so. I hope so So Adam passed the buck to Eve and what did Eve do? She justifies sin again now. I want to show you a scripture in Revelation Perhaps some light will be shed on it. We mentioned it last week. I want to mention it again Revelation chapter 3 Remember this Centurion whose servant was ill last week. We talked about it When his friends went to ask Jesus to come to his house, what were the two things that came out of their mouth at first? He was worthy For he loves our nation and he built a synagogue that was what what others thought about him then when his time came where his Servant died what happened? Oh That's right. Jesus came actually to kill him and He told then he told another set of friends go out and tell Jesus don't even come under my house But the roof of my house because I'm not worthy just speak a word and I'll be healed the difference between what? What others thought of him and what he thought of himself? He said I'm not worthy now watch this Revelation chapter 3 the Laodicean Church Listen to the phrase That Jesus says here in verse 17 because thou sayest I am rich increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not That thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. I Counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire that thou mayest be rich and white raiment That thou mayest be clothed and that the shame of thy nakedness Do not appear Adam and Eve before Genesis 3 were naked, but they were what? Unashamed Then after the fall what happened they hid themselves because of the corruption of Sin they were full of shame Now Jesus is saying Clothed yourselves with white raiment that the shame of thy nakedness Does not appear What is the shame of our nakedness what is the shame of our nakedness sin Why was the shame of? their nakedness Appearing and why did Jesus say clothe yourself so that the shame of thy nakedness doth not appear thou sayest I Am rich increased with goods and In need of nothing, but thou knowest not The shame of our nakedness appears when we don't see or know the depths of our own pride and our own sin and the clothing of White raiment is only promised to those Who what? stop hiding stop denying stop justifying Stop blaming Stop making excuses Stop looking at all your praying or all your Bible reading or all your theology or all your good works stop and Say Jesus I Come naked before you I confess my pride My sin, whatever it is that the light of God exposes in your life. I confess it Give me a humble heart Help me to find freedom as a sinner at Calvary looking for mercy and grace and it's there That the Lord clothes us with what? garments white garments His righteousness his humility His grace his love his mercy his kindness husbands Stop pretending You don't know how To do it. I don't know how to do it None of us know how to do it Let's stop pretending. I am clueless To know how to love my wife the way Christ loves the church. I am clueless. I Don't understand her. I don't understand her heart. I Don't even understand my own heart, but I want Jesus To help me you see Christ meets us at the point of our acknowledged need Christ meets us at the point of our acknowledged need verse 19 chapter 3 revelation as many as I love I rebuke and chasten be zealous therefore and Re pent Repent You know how you you know, you know how you repent you start out by saying Lord. I don't know how to repent I've tried and it's only failed Teach me Lord What true repentance is all about? Remember Jesus said except you become converted and become like what? Little children you'll know wise enter the kingdom of God and once you enter if you don't stay like a child You're not going to go on What is it about a child that Jesus was after? I don't know children. I don't know daddy I don't know daddy daddy. How many stars are in the sky? I don't know daddy How far is this from here? I don't know daddy. How do you know how to get to this town? I don't know I don't know. I don't know daddy. I don't know. Oh We get so wise don't we we get so informed we get so smart that we become fools and don't know it and so brothers and sisters in closing remember the devil Loves and delights in the delicacy of a proud Fat heart filled with the juice of pride But God gives grace To the humble. Let's bow our hearts and pray about a month ago. If you remember we all prayed and We prayed and this is what we prayed Lord We ask you to show us the depths of the pride that's working in our life How many since then can say that the Lord has begun to answer your prayer? How many would how many would like to pray that prayer again? Lord Show me the depths of my pride and When you show me the depths of my pride rescue me from its power and give me a humble heart okay, let's bow our hearts and anyone who wants to pray that prayer just lift your hand before God as a testimony to him father We ask you Lord To help us to see our pride Help us Lord to see how terrible our pride is and we pray Lord that you will rescue us from our pride and help us to admit it Acknowledge it and Run to you for grace Because we know Lord Jesus that you want to give us humble broken heart, that's like yours Lord, please have mercy on us today as We come confessing our need to you. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord
