Salvation for Eternity
Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

This contains the message on Salvation for Eternity by the Lord's Servant, Brother Bhagat Singh, during the 1966 All India Holi Convocation held at Ebron, Hyderabad. The message translated into Telugu language by the Lord's Servant, Brother Suvarna Rao of Guntur, and in Hindi by Brother Benji Samuel of Bilaspur. This is Psalm 89. May our living God speak to us through this passage of Swami's word. May our living God speak to us through this passage of Swami's word. I would like to remind you again, Psalm 89, and verse 1. I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever. In my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. With the desire that these words may become our daily experience, we bring these words to you again and again. With the desire that these words may become our daily experience, we bring these words to you again and again. These words were brought to our attention on the last Saturday evening, the 5th of this month. These words were brought to our attention on the last Saturday evening, the 5th of this month. As some of us are in every other gathering, we have the very same words. And that would show the Lord has something to teach us and show us from these well-known words. And we saw the first evening, we want to understand God's faithfulness, the first of all we must hear the gospel sound, the glad tiding, the good news of the gospel, Lord, yes, I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. It depends upon the faithfulness of our loving and gracious God. From the beginning of the fall of man, God has promised to bring forth a saviour. As we see in Genesis 3.15 In our foot enmity between thee and woman, between thy seed and her seed, is shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. That first sin which was committed by the first man Adam, and wife Eve, was a great sin. That's why they were cut off from the loving and living God. There is no human hope left, after the death of the Saviour God. And there was no hope in a human way, God had told them clearly. If they were to obey him, they would die. Death came in the whole world. And till today, death is reigning upon all mankind. And one day, we will all die. The body of the grave will become dust. And death came because of sin. But from the very beginning, God has promised to bring forth a saviour, and a woman seed. Then he kept on confirming his promise in many ways, again and again and again. And God has kept his word. He works for the saviour of sinners. And the work of salvation, has been completed and finished, at the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's why, before our Lord gave up the cross, he said, it is finished. The work of salvation finished. That means, that all their judgement and condemnation, and punishment and penalty, which we had to bear as well, has been completely and fully borne by our Lord. God of love had done that. God of love had done that. And that's why, now you find, that gift of new life of all men. It is good news, the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, is now being preached to people, all nations. And we profess ourselves, and believe from the heart, the Lord Jesus Christ did die, in my stead, for my sins. And if we believe with our hearts, that the Lord Jesus Christ, died in my stead, for my sins, that's the state where you are forgiven. You don't have to wait even a one second, to receive that forgiveness. All the other worldly covenants, take some time to be fulfilled. But discovery of God, can be fulfilled, in all of us, straight away. But how the enemy, has kept many people in blindness. And even though they admire, they respect the teaching, of Lord Jesus Christ. They even speak about his death, and sacrifice. But they don't understand, why did he die? He never died as a martyr. He gave himself. Nobody had power to touch him. That's why when they came, to take him away, that's why, when they came to take him away, in John chapter 18, Allah said, Our Lord said, who are you looking for? He said, to find those words, from the fourth verse. He said, I am he. Having heard that, they went backwards, and fell down. That is the sixth verse. They went backwards, and fell down. They did not touch him. He gave himself. He did not die, by compulsion, by force, or by violence, unwillingly. He did not die, by force, or by violence, unwillingly. He gave himself. He said in John chapter 18, I have the right to give my life, and to take it again. He gave himself, He gave himself, the power to lay down his life, and the power to take it back. He had the right to give his life, and to take his life again. What did he see through all this? He said, May all of us be forgiven. May we be forgiven completely. God's word, God must punish. Romans 6.43 Romans 6.23 That means, every sinful thought, which we commit, which we entertain, or word we speak, thing we do, deserves the same punishment. That means, don't think that only your deeds ought to be punished. Even our sinful thoughts deserve the same punishment. Because they think it was the same defilement, the same corruption, and the same darkness. So God of justice must punish them. God of justice must punish the sinful. At the same time, He has given love. Eternal love. Jeremiah 41.3 Behold, I have loved thee with everlasting love. I have loved thee with everlasting love. The Lord has restrained him from lust. And that is the love which has compelled him to come to us. May we be completely forgiven of our sins. God loves in fullness for eternity. For eternity. He wants us to have that love for eternity, not only for a few years. And that's why we see the psalmist here in psalm 89, psalm 1. That's why we see here in the first verse of the Bhagavad Gita, I will sing the Muslim of the Lord forever. With my mouth I make known thy fill the whole nation. I will sing the Lord's praises for eternity. I will sing the Lord's praises for eternity. Forever. For eternity. Even after death. Even after death. He has experienced now the love for eternity. That's why he wants to go on praising God forever. That's why he wants to go on praising God for eternity. The Lord Jesus Christ has paid full price for our sins to give us the very same song. We learn many songs and at least for some time we sing again and again. But we want some new song next year. Song that we last year became old this year. Song that we last year became old this year. No matter how we sing it, it will soon become old song. But this song will never be old. You go on singing again and again for eternity. And you will find a new joy coming in your soul. God has been showing in so many ways how all of us can enjoy his faithfulness. We try to see through life of David the same truth can be revealed to us. That's how we begin to understand something of God's faithfulness. We saw how in 1 Samuel 16 God first told him David will do everything for you. 1 Samuel 16 was there. And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ready and with all of his beautiful and goodly to look to and all of us that arise and ask him, Father this is he. Number 18. I will tell you. I have seen the son of Jesse the Bethlehemite that's coming in flames and a multi-valued man, a man of war and food and matters and a comedy person and the Lord is in him. He has in him all these wonderful qualifications. You won't find many people of this type in many parts of the world. But you find here how at a young age he had all the qualifications. Coming in flames a multi-valued man a man of war food and matters and a comedy person. Similarly you find a man full of zeal for God. He was 27. From 7 to 17. 1 Samuel 17, 37. The Lord delivered me out of the mouth of the lion out of the palm of the bear. He will deliver me out of the hand of this plastic. You can see clearly what a gate really has for God. But by my God standard he has learned a lot from him. God has changed him completely. Even though these qualifications ought to be admired by everybody. You can say he is a God-fearing young man. Full of zeal for God. And free from all other bad habits. And free from all bad habits. And free from all bad habits. Honoring his father in obedience looking after his father's sheep. Not running after worldly pleasures. Cunning in praying. A very wise man in many matters. An attractive person. And enjoying God's favor. And yet we can see in the whole story he didn't have yet the full experience. And yet we can see in the whole story he didn't have yet the full experience of God. You will soon find out. Unless we have a personal experience of a living God we won't know God's faithfulness. And that's why we try to show you from different stories. How God brought David straight to faith in himself. And he had to be completely empty of himself before God came completely to him. And that's why also our Lord died. And was again that we may die to our own nature. How shall we do that, baby? Our own nature remains corrupt before God. How civil, cultured, refined, educated we may be. No matter how much corrupt we may be. Before God we remain corrupt, rotten, sinful, and defiled. The old nature must die. And die completely. Only then we can be filled with God's fullness and God's life. So God was showing in many ways in the Old Testament. How human beings can have a personal experience of living a holy God. Now we find chapter 17 in the same David had won a battle. David was a giant called Goliath. He was a devil man. More than two feet high. So seeing him all the army of Saul and Saul trembling. But just by one stone he killed him. No doubt he became a great hero on that day. But the very same victory brought trouble also. Saul became jealous. And he tried three times to kill him. In a very mystical way. Saul son and David son became devil friends. Saul's son Jonathan became David's friend. First time in 1218. And it was his 3rd birthday. And Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own son. He was the king's son. And he became David's best friend. But he could not help David. And father wanted to kill him. He tried to protect him in many ways. But all his efforts failed. He was the king's son. And he became David's best friend. But he could not help David. And father wanted to kill him. But he could not help David. He tried to protect him in many ways. But all his efforts failed. And himself told David now you please go away. And he himself told David now you please go away. And he himself told David now you please go away. Now David was trying to find a shelter somewhere. So in chapter 21 verse 7 he came to a city called Nob. The city of the priest. Thinking that there he will be safe. That he will be among God's servants. But he will never be found anywhere. Then he goes for an operation. Then he goes for an operation. He goes to far away. Even there they found out. So eventually he had to come to a cave called Dal. So out of nowhere he had to come to a cave called Dal. But a priest in God's hands tried to push him that side. And you find us to save your life. Unknowingly we find all our plans broken one by one. And we are being forced and compelled by God's unseen hands to apply what's ought to be. So David would have tried many pleasures among friends and among relations. But everybody was afraid. You know they would have received him. He had to say, we are very sorry. We are too afraid to keep you over here. Because all were sad to pursue him and kill him. Because all were sad to pursue him and kill him. That's why he was compelled by circumstances to come in that cave Adala. Adala means resting place. Even though outwardly it's only a cave. It's not a mansion or a palace of king. Not a wealthy man's building. Not even a hut. Not even a pandal. Only a cave. No furniture. No table, no chair, no mat, no star, no light. No vessel of cooking food also. God brought him here. Meaning is resting place. He could have said, who can find rest over here. No pillow to head upon. No bed sheet, no blanket, no mattress to lie upon. How can you find rest over here? You know we have many comforts of life. Even then we can't be able to sleep at night. We require semester comfort. And we need more comforts. So when he was very tired and hungry and worn out, he would come there. Come by himself. Looking for rest, looking for peace somewhere. Looking for rest, looking for peace somewhere. So he found only cave. He could have no other place to go to. So by compulsion he had to stay there. He could have said, how can such a place, such a dark cave, give me good sleep at night. To feel very hungry, very tired, very weary, he went to sleep in the same cave. To feel very hungry, very tired, very weary, he went to sleep in the same cave. Very peculiar joy in his heart. And I believe that time God began to speak with him somehow. So only there I believe he found true rest and peace. When he was looking after his father's sheep in the jungle, and doing a job very faithfully as a brave man, pulling the sheep from the lion's mouth, pulling the lion from the lion's mouth, pulling the lion from the bear's mouth, and holding his beard, he would tear the bear apart. And because of this he did not find peace. No doubt, he was a brave man. Others used to say, what a brave person he was. Pulling the sheep out of the lion's mouth, and tearing the lion to pieces, what an admiration. He became a hero, but no peace. He may become any world hero, he may accomplish many great things, but that won't give you peace. You tell me truthfully, have any of your human achievements given you true peace? In my college days, in London, there was a young man called Aldis. Very, very clever young man. Always coming out first in exams. In every subject he came first. He got very high marks, and won many prizes and many medals. So I questioned him, before my conversion, Mr. Aldis, you are the best man of college. You are the best man of college. You are a great scholar. You have won many prizes. Everybody admires you. Are you happy? Have you found peace? He said with a soft heart, No, I am very sorry, I haven't found that peace. I took the very same question to many people in my college days. To professors and scholars, other people. To professors and scholars, those who could play many games. But nobody could say he or she, they have found peace. You think now, David, such a mighty man, a hero, must have peace. You would say, there is peace and happiness. He is a God-fearing young man. He is not an ungodly young man. Scripture says so. God was with him. That doesn't mean that the God was in him. There was God leading him. I can say, God was leading me from my childhood days. Not to me. Not to my friends and many occasions. I began travelling at a very small, early age. At the age of ten. My father was a contractor. I had to be in a school hostel. I was eight or nine years old. I had to go to my hostel from my hometown, about two hundred miles. One winter weather. I was coming from my hometown to my school place. I had to change the train at midnight. At a place called Lalamusa. Very, very simple place. There was a midnight train coming from Peshawar side to Lahore side. Full of many Pathans. They would say, anybody you come inside. Anyway, I was having a big blanket. A blue blanket. My father bought me a very good blanket. It was a very, very cold evening. There was a Pathan who would open the door. So Puli told me, I had to push the window. So I had to take off my blanket. And throw away the blanket. Then Puli lifted me. Through the window. But I hadn't done my luggage yet. Anyway, I came inside. Then came my bedding also inside. Look around. No blanket. So I asked the Pathan. What does that mean? Where is my blanket? We don't know. We don't know. I was shivering in cold. I prayed. God have mercy upon me. Help me to find the blanket. And next stop. After one hour. The train stopped. And one man got down on the far end. In the same compartment. So I got down. So I got my seat over there. So I got my seat over there. And I had to push myself to get my seat. So I sat down. And put the seat on my back. I felt something soft. So I lifted my blanket. The Pathan had pushed the blanket. They never thought I would go there. That was a long time ago. Long before my conversion. So I know. God can be with us even before conversion. But don't be deceived. They loved God. He honored God. Full of zeal for God. But never knew God personally yet. And that's why God compelled him. And forced him to come to Zalm. That's why God compelled him. The resting place. The literal meaning of the word Zalm. In Hebrew language. The resting place. To bring him rest and peace. God brought him there. But he could not receive it through his own strength and might and cleverness. And a friend. He got it there. Rather his own strength. Even trouble. Because he had killed God. That's why Zalm came to Zalm. And he could not find rest or peace among friends. Among the kings or princes anywhere. And that's why he could not find peace. Now the news came to Shahur Raja. That there was a man called Doeg at that time in Nauk city. Doeg was a man from Nauk city. First Samuel. Second Samuel. Third Samuel. Seventh Samuel. Now several men of the servants of Zalm were there. And they detained the Lord. The name was Doeg. The chiefs of the herdmen belonged to Zalm. And we find a very safe person. Went and reported against David to Zalm. First Samuel. Second Samuel. Third Samuel. Fourth Samuel. Fifth Samuel. Sixth Samuel. Seventh Samuel. Eighth Samuel. Ninth Samuel. Tenth Samuel. Eleventh Samuel. Twelfth Samuel. Twenty murders. Eighty-five priests killed. All of them men and women killed in the same city. So many sheep, so many animals. Only one person escaped. Twenty. One of the sons of Emila, son of Ahito, named Eviatar, escaped. Only one person, Eviatar, high priest's son, escaped. Only one person, Eviatar, high priest's son, escaped. He took with him the ephod. In the old testament period, the high priest could find the will of God with the help of the ephod. There were two stones in the ephod. One called Urim and the other called Thummim. You find those words every twenty years. Till today, nobody knows how did these two stones function in the ephod. Till today, nobody knows how did these two stones function in the ephod. But they could only find God's will with the help of the two stones. So the high priest said, God was very, very precious. So Eviatar took that with him and came to David. So Eviatar took that with him and came to David. Then he is coming there by compulsion of the circumstances. He came for shelter. He came for shelter. And as soon as he came over there, David said, David said, Behold, the Philistines fight against Stele. Behold, the Philistines fight against Stele. David said, Shall I go and smash the Philistines? And David said, I will go and smash the Philistines and save Keelah. And David said to him, Behold, we are afraid here of Judah. How much more then we come to Keelah against the army of the Philistines? Then David called God again. And God said, Go down to Keelah or I will lift the Philistines in thy hand. So David and men went to Keelah and fought with the Philistines and brought away the cattle and smote them in a gay slaughter. That was the beginning of the experience of David God. He is not fully familiar how these two things function. No doubt he knew that hypothesis he found. But he had no occasion to find out its real function. So when he is there in the cave, he got a message. The Philistines are robbing the chassis floor of Kila. Kila was a very wealthy city. Rather than appealing to Saul for help, the men are appealing David for help. Because they have seen David killing others. They have more respect for David than Saul. That's why they send a word to David. Please do something for us. The Philistines are coming and robbing away our grains, our food. So David feels very sorry for them. He remembers he has bloody fought. So he told him, Will you kindly ask God now what we should do? Shall I go and smite the Philistines? God said go. So he told his companions. God has spoken to me. We should go and save the men of Kila from Philistines. His companions said to him, Here in Judah itself we are so full of fear. How can we be saved so far away in Kila near Saul's place? Again they will go to God. They were short. Then David inquired again. God said, I will go to Kila. I will deliver you in the hand. David replied, Thus he obeyed. There were no weapons there. They have run away from two places. And those who came to David also, they were men in debt and trouble. They had no money. And no weapon of warfare. And yet David obeyed God. And he smote the Philistines. And gathered much fire. From that time he learned how to speak with God like that. From that time he learned how to speak with God like that. That's why God brought him to that place. And look how high he had to come to that place. 85 people were killed by Saul. All the inhabitants of Kila also. Women and children. Even their cattle were killed. What a terrible slaughter. But all happened at God's permission. To bring Abiathar to David. David will be able to speak with God face to face day by day. And from that day he will be able to speak with God. And from that day he will be able to speak with God. For every matter. And you can imagine how many times a day he would have gone to Abiathar to speak to him. Please find out for God's sake. For God's sake. And that gave rest. And God became equal to him. In that case. 85 people were killed. In your case. In the Lord's case. Jesus Christ. He gave all that he had. Our creator. He has all power. Yet he gave himself. He may live in us. He himself becomes our human terminal. At that time. David had to go to Abiathar. And then inquire from God in question and problem. But now. What a privilege. What a honor. What a joy. To be influenced by our heavenly high priest Lord Jesus Christ. He is my urim. He is my sumim. He is my light. He is my truth. Light. Light. Psalm 43. Psalm 43. And verse 3. Oh send out thy light and thy truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me. On the holy hill. I believe the urim and sumim speaks of the light and the truth of God. I believe the urim and sumim speaks of the light and the truth of God. John 8.12. The Lord is the light of the world. John 8.12. The Lord is the light of the world. John 14.6. John 14.6 is the truth. John 14.6 is the truth. So those who receive him. They have in them the light and the truth. They have in them the light and the truth. By that we find God's will, God's plan, God's purpose, God's mind everyday. And that multiplies your peace day by day. Every time when the Lord speaks with me, maybe through the Bible, through God's servant, even by time, by other means, or through other means, I find within me a peculiar peace. It is a multiplying peace. It takes away every anxiety, every worry, every doubt. And God says, in Isaiah 42, and verse 17, the work of righteousness shall be peace. The Lord is saying in John 3.27, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give unto you. By that inward peace, remember please, we find God's will day by day. By that inward peace, remember please, we find God's will day by day. And God gives peace. So when God began to speak with David, it took away all his fears and doubts. And he began to consult God many times. But whenever he failed to consult God, he had to pay a heavy price. So that we will see later on. But a price we pay by ignoring the voice of God, the word of God, the mind of God. First of all, God was showing David, that none of his own human qualifications can give him true peace. His wisdom, his might, his strength are cleverness. His wisdom, his might, his strength are cleverness. Not even his bravery, not even his zeal, not even his friends, not even his best friends, not even his best friend Jonathan, one day he will learn the lesson. Nothing will give you true peace. Nothing shall be. David truthfully, truthfully and happily, have you found true peace? The people of the world cannot give as God will come real to you. Does he speak with you? Does he call you daily? Do you see light shining upon your path more? Do you see light shining upon your path more? There shall be more and more perfect day. Does the truth of God save you from many, many dangers? Does the truth of God save you from many, many dangers? Does the truth of God save you from many, many deceptions? That is why God brought David to Adulam. That is why God brought David to Adulam. The resting place. Even though no worldly comfort. No bed, no chair, no table, no furniture of any kind. No bed, no chair, no table, no furniture of any kind. And David became a wonderful place. And there God became real to him. There God took away all the fears. There God took away all the fears. Early morning he was singing God's praises. Early morning he was singing God's praises. And God began to show him something more and more of himself. And God began to show him something more and more of himself. Then he began to see that God was preparing him for everlasting mercy. Then he began to see that God was preparing him for everlasting mercy. He gave much more than the ugly thought. Have you learnt that lesson please? Have you learnt that lesson please? If not, now we invite you to come up to him. If not, now we invite you to come up to him. Maybe you know about the Lord yourself. Maybe you know about the Lord yourself. You love him. You sing about him. You sing about him. You are very jealous about him. But does he speak? Has he become your life and peace? Have you liberty to go to him again and again every matter? Because that's why he died. Because that's why he died. He may live in us and work in us. May our loving God give you that experience. Now we stop over here. We will see much more afterwards. But please be sure, he has come into you. Give rest. You speak with him. Day by day I ask all your questions. He loved you. And asked for you. And asked again. To help you to enjoy God's faithfulness. From that day they found out. Whatever God said became true. All his men said to him. Numbering 400. Don't go to Kheela. Don't go to Kheela. Many came and begged him. We request you, please don't go there. We request you, please don't go there. They mutter spoke with respect and love. But God has said, go to Kheela. Go and save Kheela. And he went. And God helped him. And that became his experience. And he began to prove God's faithfulness. So it is very necessary to hear God's voice clearly. And for God, it is a very, very special thing. And to teach him that lesson, he had to pay a high price. And he had to pay a high price. And for God's sake, our Lord paid the highest price. Now shall we pray.
