Tonight we shall be dealing principally with the characteristics of the last days. Reading please at verse 1 of chapter 3. As you come forward you will take note that the chapter divides into two. Verses 1 to 9, the approaching apostasy. Verses 10 to 17, power to meet the apostasy. The approaching apostasy, 1 to 9, power to meet the apostasy, verses 10 to 17. We shall be reading only verses 1 to 9. Verse 1, Paul under inspiration prophesies the apostasy. This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come. Verse 1, prophecy or the apostasy predicted. That would be much better, wouldn't it? The apostasy predicted. Verses 2 to 5, the apostates described. He introduces us to 19 qualities of godlessness. 19 qualities of godlessness like this. For men shall be lovers of their own selves. Covetous. Instead of covetous please, just read lovers of silver. It's basically here, lovers of money. Lovers of silver. Boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fears, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded. Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god. It's not a question of comparison that they love god a little and pleasure a lot. They are lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god. Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof from such turn away. Very widespread. I shall delineate to you tonight in detail these 19 qualities of godlessness to show you that the scriptures are inspired and that they speak most accurately of 1981. Verses 6 to 9 please, the third section. Verses 6 to 9, the work of the apostates. How they go about their work. Verses 6 and 7, their zeal. Verses 8 and 9, their resistance to the truth. So back to verses 6, verse 6, going on to 9, the apostates and their work, their zeal. For of this sort are they which creep into houses and lead captive silly women, laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. The zeal of the apostates or if you like captors and captives. Verses 8 and 9, their resistance to the truth. Now as Janus and Jambers withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth. Men of corrupt minds reprobate concerning the faith but they shall proceed no further for their folly shall be manifest unto all as theirs, that is Janus and Jambers also was. The Lord will bless the reading from the sacred writings and do keep your bibles handy won't you. We are constantly indebted to inspired writers for throwing light upon the future and the light that shines in the sacred text coming originally from the spirit of God as he searches the deep things of God to communicate, constantly inform our minds as to the nature of the world in which we live. And if you can gather up tonight all that I have got to say from the inspired text then never at any time will you seek to touch such a world and such as a society as you live amongst today. It is a society that is devil originated, devil supported, and devil sustained. It is a society in which men are seen to be pleasure loving, mapped by passion, mapped by violence, mapped by corruption. It stands in total opposition to the kingdom of God and to the society of the people who belong to God. So it is that the inspired writer begins by saying this, know that in last days, drop the article please, the article is necessary for good English, but it is last days, it is characteristic that in last days times of peril shall come. It's not so much the restriction of the period as the character of the day. You will notice that he tells us that these last days which of course take in the last days of this present time. These last days he tells us they are times of terror, times of difficulty, times of danger, times of stress, times of grief in the sense that they are grievous times. In the last days times of peril shall come. If you were to read the latter half of Romans 1, you would find a similar catalog as this. Only in Romans 1 you are reading of the end of heathendom, whereas in this passage you are reading the end of Christendom. But whether it be the end of heathendom with all its vicious idolatry, or the end of Christendom as they give up God and the Bible and the divine revelation, the moral characteristics remain the same. For when men turn away from God and from his book, then they sink into moral darkness. When the light of God is turned away from them, then of course there is nothing but such a hideous catalog as you find here. Nineteen qualities of godlessness that teach you and I it's bad now. What an awful hell this world will be when the Christians are raptured, when the salt is removed, and corruption is unable to take its fullest sway. The world has no idea what awaits it. Their minds are darkened, as I taught you last night. They are duped and dropped by the god of this age, and terrible days lie ahead of which we are touching them. Now if you drop your eye to the close of verse 5 and the opening of verse 6, from such turn away for of the sun. That tells you this, that what marked the last days was in germ and seed form in Paul's day. As Paul spoke of the developing future, he saw in germ the developing present, and so indicates that these things were beginning to appear then. Now let us give ourselves now to a short, brief, I hope enlightening consideration of each of these terms. Notice the first, or sorry before I begin, something more comes to mind. You will notice that there are four references to love. Verse 2, men shall be lovers of self, lovers of silver. Then the close of verse 4, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Four mentions of love. Now will you notice carefully please. One lovers of self, two lovers of money, silver, three lovers of pleasure. That's how it takes. Once you begin to love yourself, you'll begin to love money to spend on yourself, and you'll begin to turn toward the pleasures of this world. Self, money, pleasure. That is the progress that God speaks of in that way. Come again now. For men shall be lovers of self. Now this is the basic sin. The basic sin is to love yourself when number one becomes prominent. Now this is all contrary to Christianity, for in Christianity, Christ alone has the preeminence. No doubt you've heard this before. When you come to your new testament, you read of secundus, that means second. You read of tertius, which is latin for third. You read of quartus, which is latin for fourth. You never thought I was a latin scholar. And but you never read of primus or primate, because in your bible, the system that God has set up, there is only one person who is prominent and preeminent, that in Christ alone shall be the preeminence. Christianity is opposed to number one being prominent. Listen. Conversion means that you abdicate the throne of your life and allow Christ to ascend. Christ becomes enthroned, and to use the language of another, as he increases, so you decrease. Haven't we been taught that love wanteth not itself, is not puffed up. Love does not think of its own things, but of the things of others. Did not the Lord teach, if a man denied self, if a man say no to himself, that's it. So that basic to Christianity is the fact that Christ is preeminent, but in the world, men are lovers of their own selves, lovers of self. That is followed immediately by lovers of silver, lovers of money. Now Timothy lived at Ephesus. It was the great market city, the treasure house of the ancient east and the vanity fair of Asia Minor. In Ephesus, a man could quite easily gain the world and lose his soul and his life. It was a place where prosperity was measured by what a person possessed, money and goods. And I'm just afraid that the Christians look at it like that too. If I said to you going out the door tonight about a certain man, that he was prosperous and successful, I have no doubt at all, not for a moment, would you think that I was talking about his spirituality? Oh no, oh no, we don't look at things like that. The climate of the world has infected us. Prosperity and success is always looked upon in that which is material. But this is a very subtle thing, brethren and sisters. All of us are in danger of bowing at the altar of the dollar. The love of money penetrates our society so that you have gambling in a multiplicity of from the humble bingo hall to the stock exchange. Lovers of money. When you come to your bible, have you ever noted? Tell me, what was it that made the rich man want to pull down his barns and build greater in Luke 12? The love of money. Tell me, what was it that made the rich man of Luke 16 use his wealth to shield himself from the plight of Lazarus at the gate? Love of money. Tell me, what was it that made that attractive rich young man turn away from the Christ that loved him? Love of money. He had great possessions. Tell me, what was it that made Judas Iscariot betray Christ? What was his price? Love of money. 30 pieces of silver. Tell me, what was it that made Ananias and Sapphira tell the lie and despise the church of God? Love of money. This one will surprise you. Tell me, what was it that made the rich employers of James 5 exploit the workers? Love of money as they held back the wages. Ah, you didn't think there was anything like that in your bible in your New Testament, eh? That's because you don't read too carefully. You see, now listen to me. There is a social passion running through the bible that demands righteousness on the part of the employer and honesty on the part of the employee. And that social passion blazes its way through the scriptures long before ever socialism or communism was known. It lay in your bible, the truth of God for industrial relations. So, what is it, the love of money? And across it all, there cuts the piercing words of the son of God. A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesses. Do you believe that? That's what Christ taught. Come again. The third thing is boasters. The arrogant man. Now, I might as well to explain the meaning behind the word boasters. It has the idea of a quack doctor who went around the country selling his wares but boasting that his, eh, his, eh, medicine had qualities it didn't really possess. He was the, he was the first of the con men, confidence men, you know. Now, let me give you an explanation or an illustration because it's true. Way back yonder in the middle of Scotland, I was born in a town called Coatbridge. Now, right in the center of the town, there was a fountain. And if ever you were to meet anyone, you would say, I'll meet you at the fountain at seven o'clock. That's a rendezvous for everybody. Now, I was only a little boy. And, eh, every Friday night around seven o'clock, there arrived at the fountain a colored gentleman. Big man, at least he looked big to me. I was only a wee shaver. You'll not know that one, you know, just a little fellow. And, eh, colored, colored gentlemen and ladies, of course, were quite unknown in our part of the country. It really was something you see one. And he was a big, quite strapping fellow, quite handsome, flashing white teeth. But anyway, every Friday he arrived at the fountain and he was selling a little bottle. He called it Blue Ray. Now, this Blue Ray could cure anything from corns to cancer, from bunions to gallbladder. It was the elixir of life. How the medical profession never got to hear about it, I'll never understand. It really was the thing. I can see him as I used to go along every Friday night just to hear the patter. And he would stand with this little bottle. He would tell all its qualities. And then he would say, now, I'm not here today and gone tomorrow. I'm gone the same night, but I'll be back next week. And sure enough, he was. And there was Blue Ray able to cure all your aches and pains and ills if you are prepared to pay the price. Now, he was the first of the con men, I suppose, that ever I met, although I didn't realize he was that. But that's it. The world's full of them. Men who, men who convince other people of themselves and what they've got. You find it in the political world, the politician that will tell you that his party alone has the program that can bring in the golden age and he of all men born of women is fit to be leader. You find it in the advertisement columns, you'll be offered health and beauty if you'll just buy the product and pay the price. Over yonder in Britain, I have known people that parted with a thousand pounds as a deposit on a piece of land in Spain that only existed in the mind of the seller. Oh, yes. And constantly people are being separated from their hard-earned money by these con men. So, this is the idea here. All around us, the world's full of them, confidence tricksters who shout their wares and in many classic cases carry it out brilliantly to separate people from their money. Look at the next one, please, quickly. Proud. Arrogant. Now, if the boaster shouts to the four winds of heaven who he is and what he's got, this man, this proud man is different. His pride is an attitude that dwells in his heart. This man believes that every other person is beneath him. He believes that he himself is a cut above the common herd. He believes that every person is beneath him socially, materially, and in every natural endowment. He is the person who in his heart bows down to himself. For in his heart, there is an altar to himself. To that altar he bows down. And in his eyes, he looks out in silent contempt upon everyone else. This is the proud man that God hates. The proud look that's an abomination unto the Lord. Plead on. Blasphemers. A generation and sometimes nations that blaspheme the name of God, that have no time for deity, that deny his existence and defame his character. Strange brothers, we live in a world and in a society where you dare not libel another man or you're up for defamation of character, but you can feel quite free to libel the Godhead. You can defame the divine character at your will. Not a thing is ever said. Blasphemers. They are penetrating high places. Oh yes. Do you know that over yonder in Britain, we have hardly a statesman that mentions the name of God. I noticed they were writing into your constitution the name of God. Over in our country, there's hardly a statesman will ever publicly mention the name of God. I'll tell you more. May not interest you too much. The leader of the opposition is a man called Michael Foote and if at the next election he becomes prime minister, he will be the first atheist prime minister in Britain. He's been a member of the National Secular Society since 1935 and he was a lot more yonder in the shadow cabinet would shut every gospel hall in the place and every witness to Christ. I don't know about Canada, but we've certainly got a godless regime over yonder. Full of blasphemers. Come again. He says here, disobedient to parents. Well, you can understand this, can't you? If God is outside of society, people are only living for themselves, only living to make money. They are proud blasphemers. Then you can understand that the children are raised in a godless home where the name of God of Christ is never mentioned but in blasphemy. So that as the Bible has gone out of the schools, there has come to light what they call self-expression. No corporal punishment. There's none at home. There's none in the school. So the end total result is that we are rearing a nation of little horrors. That's right. That's why that when you take them out visiting, they can either commend you or otherwise. For after they've been there about half an hour and get restless, they'll begin to do the things that they do at home. Disobedient to parents. Never used to be. But now they'll say quite openly, no. Or if they're asked to do something, they say no. Or they'll do it when they've time. And sometimes I've heard them telling their parents to shut up. Indulgent parents that minister to their every whim and spoil them completely. Notice disobedient to parents. Notice what follows. Unthankful. That's right. You give them all that you've got. And they take it because you've so spoiled them they think it's their right to get it. Oh yes. And they're not a bit thankful. And so we are a generation like that. So that even young people today, they shout against the establishment but they take the money to buy their drugs and booze. And they're not at all thankful. They just think that society owes it to them. That's the generation that's being there. Look again. Unholy. Now listen carefully. These are the people, especially younger people, who have no respect for the decencies of life. They are unholy and profane. They have no time for God, no time for God's day, no time for God's law, no time for God's worship. They'll break every written law and then they'll break every unwritten law. Do you know that over yonder a few years ago in Britain in the Isle of Wight they had a pop festival in which acts which should have been reserved for private were performed in public. And you'll find this, that when these kind of people indulge in every pleasure that is normal and they remain unsated and unsatisfied, then they will turn to get a thrill in that which is abnormal and is even a shame to name. Do you know that tonight sin is legalized in Britain? Oh yes. Sin is legalized in Britain. It's possible to be right in the eyes of the British law and wrong in the eyes of God. We have got a gay society. Do they call them that over here? The gay society that practice homosexuality and lesbianism? Over yonder they clamor for recognition. They've got their own newspaper. They lobby for recognition. They want what is unnatural to be accepted as natural. They want what is abnormal to be accepted as normal. Everything that their vicious and twisted minds can think of they want to write in to be recognized as a part of society. Do you know that not so long ago there was actually a deputation representing prostitutes appeared at the house of commons to lobby MPs to get the oldest trade in the world recognized officially and they threatened if they didn't get it they would name names. Now that's the kind of world that we are living in. The Bible, the New Testament's not old-fashioned. It's right up to date. They are unholy. Look again. Without natural affection. Now you're in the realm of the family. Without natural affection comes into family life. It means that there is coming to light a lack of love, a lack of care, a lack of feeling in family life. That's true. For instance, this is the day of abandoned babies and lonely parents. Babies are abandoned. Parents are left without visitors and homes and some women, maybe a widow, sacrifice to rear four or five children when she's old. None of them want to keep her so they push her off to a hole. Without natural affection. This is the day of abandoned babies, battered babies, battered wives, not to forget a few battered husbands. That's it. Without the normal affection that makes up family life and the destruction of the family unit with all the love and affection that should be there is destroying our national life. Come again. Without natural affection, truth breakers. Now the word generally would be rendered implacable. That is, it's not only the fact that they break agreements, but the idea enters in of hostility and bitterness so that they have no desire to put things right on a proper basis and even be reconciled. Is that not true in industrial relations today? Is there not a hostility, a bitterness, a suspicion that has come in between employer and employee? There is truth breaking. They don't hold to the contract, to the agreement and there are leading men on either side who are not prepared to move an inch anyway at all. They are implacable. They stick their heels into the ground. There's no movement to bridge the gulf in any way. Maybe I should have said this earlier. There's always the danger that the climate of the world will enter in and I'm always sad when this sort of thing appears amongst Christians. There is difference with no desire to be reconciled. Implacable. Come again. False accusers are slanderers. Now the word devil means the slander. So the devil is these people's patron saint. Now slander is one of the most cruel of sins. You know there are some people and they would never dream of assaulting your person or stealing your goods. Never dream of that. But they would pass on a story about you that would blast and damn you. That would pull to shreds your character and they would never even take the bother to find out if it was true. And such slandering, such storytelling has ruined friendships, sundered relations, wrecked the peace of assemblies and brought untold havoc everywhere. One of the marks of the last days. Slanderers. Look again. Incontinent. That means without self-control. They have no inner power to govern and restrain themselves. It's the day when everybody expresses themselves. You mustn't be inhibited. So you have a day of lack of self-control, incontinent. Isn't that right? Indulging everything. The day of the alcoholic. The day of the drug addict. The day of the sexually free. The day of the rapist. Oh yes. Lack of self-control in society. Come again. Fierce. Savage. Brutal. Merciless. Pitiless. Untamed. Like wild beasts. Is not that it today? Look around you. Gangs that roam the streets and terrorize old people. That mock and rape is not this the day of the gun and the bomb? In an international and international scale, the IRA and black power? Do you know? Do you know that every year in a different city, men dedicated to international terrorism meet? In order to further their ways of destruction and disruption and terrorism, to exchange ideas and to give each other their techniques that they've evolved within the last 12 months. Oh yes, that's true. Days of fierceness. Look again. Despisers of those that are good. Isn't that right? There are people out there and the company of good people embarrass them. Now, right. Some of these recent converts taken right out of the world will know that this is a new world completely. But there are people out there and they have sunk so low in mind and in actions that they hate the company of people where you can't blaspheme and you can't curse and you can't tell the salacious story with its double meaning. They are just not at home in the company of good men and good women. Look again. Traitors. Judas is the patron saint. There came a day when he got his price and he betrayed Christ. This idea has permanated society. Isn't that right? You'll find it in the world of espionage. In Britain, men in high places passing over secrets to Russia, sometimes for 10 and 20 years. You find it in the world of crime where they, what they call the grass, that is, they become informers and tell on their former mates. You find it in the underground church where they are suspicious of strangers who come amongst them. Do you know that over there in one of the countries they decided to try and penetrate the assemblies? So they took young men and young women and they put them through a course on brethren teaching. Got them to read the books of Derby, Kelly, etc. so that they knew the language, knew the atmosphere and were able to tell them how the meetings were conducted so that they could penetrate, go in, find out all about and report back. Can you wonder why it was that the church of Jerusalem weren't too happy about Saul of Tarsus? They probably at the beginning thought he was going to be planted by the authorities. That's why they weren't too keen about receiving him. Come again. Heady just means headstrong, rash, reckless, impetuous. People that know everything and you can't tell them anything and they just go on their way. Headstrong. Look again. High-minded just means swollen-headed, big-headed, bumptious. You'll find the illustration in the gospels. The man with dropsy, you remember, he was swollen up. He appeared bigger than he was. That's it. That's the man that's here. The people that try to make themselves out bigger than they really are. Come again. Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. How true. A pleasure-dominated society. Yet look at verse 5. Strange. But you always meet strange things in your bible. But it's true. Mixed up with the whole system, there is a form of godliness that denies the power. Just a formal way of worship that can exist in a society like that. Oh breath. What comes out from high places religiously? Anything but the pure word of God. Everything calculated to live alongside a world like this. Do you know there is in our country a group who are trying to promote that homosexuals should become clergymen. That they understand the needs of this corrupt part of society from such terminology. I hardly need to say anything in that do I? Now please you have listened very patiently to me. Let us turn to verses 6 to 9. He's now going to throw light on the work of the apostates and in verses 6 and 7 he shows their proselytizing zeal. How they go out to get converts. And in verses 8 and 9 he'll draw attention to how they resist the truth. Now please come now will you notice in verse 6 and 7 that he tells us two things about these false teachers. He tells us that they creep into houses and lead captive silly women. Then he tells us four things about the so-called converts. He tells us that they are laden with sins, led away with divers lusts of pleasures, ever learning, never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as you come forward please will you notice overall that these men approach women. That's remarkable. Do you remember that's what the devil did in the garden he approached the woman. Well might Paul say not localized to this we are not ignorant of his devices. Tell me have you ever noticed a peculiar thing about John's second epistle and John's third epistle. For instance in John's second epistle he's writing appealing for for someone to defend the person of Christ. Now if I had been writing that I'd have written that to a brother. John didn't he wrote it to a sister. So sit up sisters. Third John he's writing among other things about hospitality. I would have written that to a sister. John wrote it to a brother. Now in second John he's talking about these false teachers and he says to the sister if they come unto you and bring not this doctrine receive them not into your house neither bid them godspeed keep them at the door. Don't you see that John knew or the spirit of God knew and indicated through John that the day was coming when the Mormons and the Jehovah Witnesses would arrive in the afternoon when you women are at home. It's all calculated to get into the home through the women. Here it's here. So sisters defend the person of Christ. There's a great reward for you in a coming day. Come again. Notice what he says. He says these men creep into houses secretly penetrating insidiously just like the serpent that they represent. They creep into houses. That's their technique. They get in. They might be polished in their manner. Oh yes. You don't get them coming with hair down to their shoulders. Oh no. They are clean looking. They are dressed. You'll never get them running around casually. They have everything in their approach to show that they are clean and respectable. And they approach the door. I was telling you last night how one of them approached our door one day no more stories tonight but that's how they do it. Now it says they are out to lead captive women. Now you will notice please that it is a form of slavery. Their mind is enslaved by false teaching. You see you get these ideas in your bible. Do you remember last night in relation to false teaching we saw that conversion was coming from ignorance to truth. It was coming from intoxication to soberness. It was coming from slavery to freedom. The last verses of chapter 2 to recover themselves means that they were intoxicated duped and drugged by the false teaching and by patient teaching they have been led out into true conversion. Brethren and sisters listen have patience when you're dealing with people who are seeking God's truth. It doesn't all come in a night. Come again. So that they lead captive silly women. That word silly is just a contemptuous term for them. I want you to notice what it says. It says amongst the four things about the women one it says they were laden with sins led away with divers lusts so these women are morally weak. Verse seven they are ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth they are intellectually weak. Here they are sinners laden with sins and led away with every desire. You see these people they they get anxious they're not ashamed of their sin but they're worried about the judgment and suddenly suddenly these men appear at the door telling them that there is no such thing as eternal punishment no such a place as hell and everybody's going to heaven to enjoy things just down here up there as they enjoyed them down here. So they embrace it. They are ever learning for they're always taking courses but they're never able to come to the knowledge of the truth for running after error and living in sin is not the way to get truth. So these men have developed a technique of approach a putting out of error. Now verses eight and nine he now begins to speak of their resistance to the truth. Interesting isn't it? Now as Janus and Jambors withstood Moses we had to wait for centuries to get the name of the Egyptian magicians. It's not important. The primary thing in the book of exodus wasn't to identify magicians but to display the power of God. Nevertheless here he mentions the names. He says as Janus and Jambors withstood Moses so do these men also resist? He doesn't say Paul. He says the truth. Now watch. Can you see that in identifying these apostates with the Egyptian magicians that he is indicating that these are men of the occult who possibly were practicing sorcery and other things? Interesting isn't it? And as they withstood Moses so these men resist the truth. You know brethren the devil is prepared if need be to take centuries to build up vast systems of error to oppose the truth. It's high time that our minds were enlightened about the activities of the devil. And you know I may be as well to say this to you. Now I would like you to think carefully on this will you? I can't recall which home it was but we were discussing it recently in the home. They were asking me a number of questions about the devil. Now let me say this that the devil is not omnipresent. That clear? He doesn't possess any divine attributes while he himself was one of the highest of the spiritual intelligences. So that he is localized and his demons do their work for him. And of course they must constantly report back to him as to their activities and the conditions in certain places. Now tell me in reading Revelation chapter 2 when the inspired writer touches the church at Pergamos have you ever noted what he said? John's putting down what the Lord said to the church at Pergamos. Now here's what he said. He says I know thy works where thou dwellest even where Satan's throne is. Revelation 2 verse 13. The word seat there should be the word throne. Now note he's telling us that the devil has set up his throne in Pergamos to attack the churches. For Satan must be localized. Why that's a tremendous thing isn't it? Somebody asked me where would he be localized today? What a question for discussion. There it was right in Pergamos he set up his throne where he was prepared to administer and control the attack against the churches. You'll take serious note of these things. Brethren I speak as to wise men judge what I say. These are solemn things but oh they're so true. Let's waken up to it all. Come again. So there is this the truth. Now he tells us they are men of corrupt minds. That is the mind which is the organ for perceiving, understanding and receiving truth has been corrupted and defiled so that the truth can no longer penetrate. And they are men whose minds are totally corrupt. Now I said last night maybe I should have said again on the way through that an apostate is not a backslider. An apostate is a person who made a profession, got baptized, was received into the meeting and then in the passage of time they gave it all up or began even inside to teach their error. Controlled by evil spirits and their error proved that they never had the real thing. So these apostates are men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. Now reprobate just means rejected. They are rejected concerning the faith that is what they teach is brought to holy scripture and must be rejected as worthless and counterfeit so that the word of God becomes the test of doctrine and practice. Oh yes. Speaking the other day in some of the homes I was drawing attention to this. The danger today in certain quarters of claiming an experience such as speaking in tongues but not prepared to bring it to the bible. I was telling them away yonder in England. Maybe it was in here the other night was it? A young woman came into the home. I think I said to you did I? You know when you're preaching for three weeks every night you begin to forget maybe what you've said. And she came in with a friend and she started to talk and I told you one aspect of it when how they set up a meeting or that suits them and call it a church which is all wrong. But she had when I spoke to her further on and asked her if she was saved. Oh no she says but I've been baptized with the holy spirit. She wasn't even converted and she didn't want to know anything about salvation. She had this experience. She had been baptized and spoken with tongues. She wasn't interested in salvation despite the warnings that I gave her. You see the danger of an experience? It's very difficult to argue to reason with these people because they're holding on to an experience and experience is a dangerous thing if you have no doctrine to govern it and to explain it. So come again men rejected as to the truth but they shall proceed no further just as God limited the influence of Janus and Jambos in that day. So God promises to limit the influence on certain occasions for their folly shall be made manifest as was the foolishness of Janus and Jambos. Now that brings us to the close of that section. When you go into verses 10 to 17 he speaks of power to meet the apostasy and in verses 10 to 13 he brings in his own sufferings. Now those of you who have attended these meetings will have noted that time and again I have pointed out how Paul brings his own personal sufferings to the knowledge of Timothy. His idea being this Timothy God has brought me through all this and he'll bring you through and then that's verses 10 to 13 verses 14 to 17 he brings before him the power of holy scripture and that will be before us tomorrow night. I want to talk to you what I consider to be very important the authority of holy scripture and the inspiration of holy scripture. Now brethren and sisters as we draw the meeting to a close I have sought as God has helped me to expose the system to you. In detail I've tried to show you its inherent characteristics. Brethren and sisters society is morally rotten, it's devil inspired and in a thousand and one ways he'll try to bring you down. Let me come again. Let me say what I first said at the conference and have repeated once or twice. Brethren and sisters read your own bible. Read your own bible. That's the only sure thing that will hold you in the hour of temptation. Read your own bible. Get to know your own God and once you know your bible and therein know your God then I say this to you stay where God has put you and only move when God would send you. Have you got that? I'll repeat it in close. Read your own bible. Get to know your own God. Stay where God has put you and go where God would send you.
