W.F. Kumuyi

William Folorunso Kumuyi (1941–present). Born on June 6, 1941, in Erin-Ijesa, Osun State, Nigeria, to an Anglican family, W.F. Kumuyi grew up in a strict Christian home, regularly reading the Bible and attending church. His early faith waned in secondary school due to a principal’s atheistic teachings, but he rekindled his spiritual journey in 1963, becoming born-again on April 5, 1964, at age 23, influenced by a Gospel church group. A brilliant scholar, he graduated with a first-class honours degree in mathematics from the University of Ibadan in 1967, later earning a postgraduate certificate in education from the University of Lagos. While lecturing in mathematics at Lagos in 1973, he started a Bible study group with 15 students, laying the foundation for the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, which became Deeper Life Bible Church in 1982 after his 1975 expulsion from the Apostolic Faith Church for preaching Holy Spirit baptism. Known for his expository sermons emphasizing holiness, Kumuyi grew the church to over a million members across 60 countries, with its Lagos headquarters seating 30,000. He authored books like Daily Manna and Kumuyi: Defender of the Faith, and launched Global Crusade with Kumuyi in 2021. Married to Abiodun Olowu from 1980 until her death in 2009, he has two sons, Jeremiah and John, and wed Esther Blaize in 2010. Kumuyi said, “Holiness is not a destination; it is a daily walk with God.”

...and walk therein, and they told me directly, face to face, we will not walk therein. These rebellious people, how could it be that a day will come, a time will come, that God will give them just one heart, and one way, that they will fear me forever. That is, I'm going to even do something for them, they will fear me forever, the tendency to backsliding and going away from the Lord, I'm going to cancel it from Israel. Even the prophets of God, if they were not careful, they'd be doubting. How can that be? But they were, because of the great cost of unbelief. When God has said, this is what He will do, everyone that wants to remain in good relationship with the Lord, He will say, yes, Lord, we know you are God, you're almighty, but you're all things are possible. It says, for the good of them, and for their children, and for their neighbors' property. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them. That's the covenant. The covenant with believers, in God's great promises. And I will not turn away from them, to do them good. But I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. Before you move on, personalize this promise. Look at yourself, as if God came to you, like He came to Abraham. And one and one, God talking to Abraham, Abraham responding also. Look at yourself, like God came to Moses, at the backside of the desert. Moses, Moses, and then God began to talk to him, face to face, one and one. Picture yourself, God talking to you like Samuel, Samuel, Samuel. And then the conversation between the almighty and Samuel, one and one, took place. The Lord comes before you, and He calls you by name. And He drops His watch in your heart. I'm going to give you one heart, one wing. The same heart, I gave to the world in support. I'm going to give them to you. And the same way, I made them to walk in. I'm going to do the same for you. And then He says, I'm making an everlasting covenant with you, that will not turn away. And then He will put His fear in your heart. That every place you find yourself, every situation you find yourself, it will not be the fear of man that controls your action. It will be the fear of the almighty God. And then that will not depart from Him again. What a great promise. Do you believe the promise? Do you obey the promise? Do you accept the promise? And you walk by that promise of God. In Ezekiel chapter 37. Ezekiel chapter 37 verse 26. Now remember, I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them and multiply them. And will set my sanctuary in the midst of them forevermore. Here is the covenant of the Lord. Go see. I was going to make covenant with you in this. If it comes to you, well that's the word of God. That's normal. Yes, we know it looks normal now. But I want you to put yourself in the shoes of Ezekiel. Ezekiel, what did the Lord tell you earlier? He said, prepare my watch whether they will appear or they will prepare. Ezekiel, for these children of Israel, this is rebellious house. Ezekiel, even though the people have sinned against you, they are like scorpions. And they are a mixture of evil. Yet, declare my watch unto them. They may not easily accept the fact, Ezekiel. The people come to you and they sit before you as my people. But their hearts are utter. Their perpetualness is utter. You have heard that. And you know that these are the state. That these children of Israel. Now God comes and says, Ezekiel, be careful now what I'm telling you. And receive now what I'm telling you. I'm going to do something. It's almost incredible. Almost impossible. Almost unbelievable. And yet, there is the great cost of unbelief. If you think of the past, I know these children of Israel. I know their scorpions. I know their rebellious house. I know their legitimate set of their idols in their mind. And then God is saying, moreover, I'm going to make a covenant of peace with the grossing people. I'm going to change them. I'm going to transform them. I'm going to turn their lives around to the point you will not recognize them. Same group of people. And then it says in the 47th of my tabernacle also, shall be with them. I will be their God and they shall be my people. And their keeper shall know that I, the Lord, do sanctify Israel. You know the prophet is almost ready to give up the message and the doctrine of sanctification. Let me ask you. If you preached 36 times about sanctification, about holiness, and the people just said, shut up. Go away. Don't talk about that again. That's impossible. Have you not learned to listen all these 36 chapters? All these 36 messages? Have you not known that we will go our own way and then the Lord sent you again to the same people. And said, go and be clear unto them. I will sanctify. I will make holy. I will purify the house of Israel. If you are not careful, you will be an unbeliever. You will say, Lord, send another person. Have I been there? Have I been there for preaching such a message to the house of Israel? And they have told me, they have shown me, they have demonstrated to me that that's not what they want. And the Lord said, beware lest you wander, despise, and perish. A great cause of unbelief. In that the statute, 28, and the heathen shall know that I, the Lord, will sanctify Israel when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them, our Lord, forevermore. It will happen. Ezekiel chapter 36, verse 25. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean. Thank you, God. You know, the Lord is talking to you personally. You look at your past life. Since you have come into this world, you see the defilement in your thoughts. The private defilement in the secret place. The thoughts that you struggle with in your mind. The uncleanness. The defilement. The abomination. The things that must not see the light of day. The life that is so dirty you are even ashamed to come before the Lord. And then the Lord says, I will sprinkle clean water upon you. Make you clean. Be careful you do not disbelieve that great promise of God. You don't look at your life and say, who? With who I know myself to be. With all the prayers I have made. And with all the proclamations I have declared. And with all the public image I have built up. I know what is the secret of my life. And now I don't want to deceive myself and take a promise like this and wrong with it. Beware of unbelief. The great cost of unbelief when God speaks. You want to give yourself to the Lord and say, oh Lord, you are the God of all flesh. But you, all things are possible. If you say you will do it, here I am, I present myself before the altar of the Lord, it will be done. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you and you shall be clean from all your filthiness. And from all your idols will I cleanse you. The scripture says, a new heart also will I give you. A new spirit will I push within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh. And I will give you a new heart.
