Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher talks about the power of God and how he wants to help people. He uses the analogy of a boat to explain that sometimes we need to leave our comfort zones and go to deeper places in order to receive God's blessings. The preacher also emphasizes the importance of love, stating that God has given us not only power but also the power of love. However, he cautions against becoming too focused on love and neglecting the mission of spreading God's word to those who are hungry and thirsty for it.

The healing point, thou art the balm of Gilead. And so many times in the rush and hustle and bustle of life, all that confusion and racket gets into our spirits, gets in and troubles us. So teach us how to rest in thy presence, in silence sometimes, and expose our hearts and all that you may come to us in that healing measure, that the balm of Gilead, that soothing, wholesome power of the Spirit of God, may move upon us. We need it so much in these days. We ask thee again as we open this word, that thou art pleased to bless it to every heart. May each one of us find the portion which, and we love to have thee high and lifted up. More and more thou art bringing us to it. So today, initiated I say already into the things of this world. Now there are people who've known me for, and are, and I don't have to, that's all taken, have all the gifts, and now I said, come on, let's go into the things where we belong. And so I have a ministry trying to, to lead them in. Well, what I'm getting at is this. We have no programmed meetings. We sit in the presence of the Lord. And I remember one time when we had silence, silence. I have somebody in this group this morning, who was in that very meeting. And, and I got up in the morning, when I got up in the morning, there was silence in my heart. Just a strange silence. And I thought, isn't this strange? I have this at home. And behold you, when I went to have this service, I had no message at all. And God said, I want this, a time of silence, for these hearts. And I, I, I spoke it to them. And, and you remember, we didn't talk to each other all day, excepting the very next day. All day! I never spoke a word. But we, and you know, I even yet to this day, hear little repercussions. They never forgot it. In the prayer meeting, and, why, you, you couldn't pray. And there was that whole moving of the, in prayer. Song and worship, and song and worship. But you see, that's when you let, and if you will open to God, it will do something. There's spirit in that, whoever, to you, in the days to come. Now, your birth, your birth, merely gives you the potential. That has to be taken hold of. And by the grace of, we've had it before, but you'll have to listen. I have met, we have plenty of people who give Bible readings. And they give expositions. But I ask you for your homework, I hope you're, in the early church, that lovely, lovely, question of the person. He has placed in the church, all these gifts. He, he placed them in the church. They have a, a, a reflex. A reflex. Out here in the world. But he said he had placed them in the church, for the edification of the world. No! For the, this witness. For its edification. For its culture. For its maturing. How many know that's in the Bible? That actually is, you can find it in Corinthians, you'll find it in Ephesians. Paul, did you know he, he, he, he, how many know Paul couldn't write Ephesians? Well, no! Not at all! He hasn't come to that place. Can Abraham offer up Isaac, a few days after he's born? None of these things come in a minute. He placed in the church, in the body, all these gifts, for its culture. For its education. For its development. For its growth. Well then, if that's so, it seems to me, this strange mystical body of, a quality of life, a quality of life, and when those gifts in the church can operate, you can't produce it any other way. All of the mechanics, which people use today, for that, it's not, you can't do it. Your life has to be produced, because there is a correct functioning of, it's a law. An element of life, that I often wish we could see. Now we say, I'm, I am saved, I have the life of God in me, I know dear brother, dear sister, I know that very well, and I'm talking about an element, a, a, a, a, a quality of life, not a manifestation out here, but a life which will eventually manifest out here. But it has to be here first. Which comes because of just this thing. Obedience to the laws of the spirit. Obedience to what? In the pattern which, for instance, in that early church, there was a manifestation of the life of Christ, in that early church, that had power. Power. Power enough, that it could move a whole nation. Do you remember it did? How many remember it moved a nation? I know Rome was terrifically affected by it. What is this? In that early church, there was a manifestation of the life, of the Holy Spirit, in those instruments, which did not come, just because they had the baptism of the spirit, and had miracles, and spoke in tongues. Those are manifestations. We accept them. I had some meetings with the attackers, and of course they had that great, tremendous old, and I went way up in the top, where in the early days, our Christian brothers were taken, and the wild beasts were released, out of the very gates. I saw the gates, I saw them. They were released, and they could come and devour, devour them. How did they go home? History tells us they went home rejoicing. They would stand with their arms up, looking up to God, with thanksgiving, and a glory of God upon them. They were martyrs for Jesus' sake. Did they do that because they had the baptism of the Holy Ghost? No. They were all over. Do you think that in three minutes? That is holy ground, blood-seeking Christians. What was it that gave them stamina to die? Well, they had the baptism. How many know there are thousands of people who had the baptism, and they could not take it? They do not have that inner, hidden element of the light, and the love, the adoration. They don't have it in them today, to meet a difficulty, let alone alive. No, they don't. You know they don't. Travel with me. But could you jump? I say, Lord, only by thy grace could I stand it. It would have to be something more than the fact that I have the Spirit. I know people, you do too, who have the Spirit dwelling in them, can preach, and pray, and they can't face a liar. Why? Because they can't face themselves. No, they can't. No, they can't. They wouldn't want themselves exposed out here for five minutes. No. Well, if you can't face these simple, simple things, how can we face the lion in the arena? You won't. You can't. You'll be devoured. So, he's talking here about a power that has been given, a power, as we said yesterday, to become my witness. Now, that strange group of Christians, hither and yon, do you think they were such a powerful people that every one of them? Oh, no. But with an element of life, an element of the Spirit, the Agatha of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, resting in them, that they moved under the impact and power of that until that whole thing, gathered together, became a dynamic. Well, it's like something that I... I'd give anything in the world back at the weekend. I would like to see that. Well, there are a lot of reasons back of it. But who wants to expose it? I want to drag out the... I'm not too dumb here. Anybody knows anything at all? Can I be skeletal? No, shut him up. Let's keep... And you can't fool a lot of people. Even people out of Pentecost see through it. They really do. People outside of Pentecost can see through it. And some of our own precious people. That's true as I live. I talk with people... Deal with them. I was telling our brother this morning, I think I'll tell him a little of that, shall I? But you know, there are hungry people who are not in our Pentecost. I mean intelligent, lovely spirits. Intelligent people. Cultured people. Who are just as starved as any... A person who comes... A year or more ago, I was contacted by a member of the Christian Fellowship. It's a Christian Fellowship which is in... They are... It is a group of Christians in the university. They have... And they're hungry. And you know, some of those people, they came and... We have read what you have in... And I got up and I said... These were hard. And they brought some of... Did it mean anything? Yes, I'll tell you why. When spring came, they said, we're co-ed because... We have doctors and... So I said, alright, then you give me the grace. They don't get up. We can't... So? They're not followers. They deserve this. And he says, I know that. He says, you know, I've never had any discipline. So if you want to... He teaches... First thing that he... He didn't give... He breathed upon them. Then what was it? He said, it is the... And all of you... You... In the church... You have to get... In another message. I have that. In my philosophy. All of your ministry is reactionary. And that's... The impact is... Very few can... He didn't say he's not going to give... Well, let me help you with that. Do you know that? If you want to talk into that... That's rather tight. Well, he says, I'm giving you that. Well, why? He says, this isn't an emotional... We have a little analysis of it. There... Those two... Jesus used one word. Love is thou... Love is thou me. Yea, Lord, thou me. Now, your word love... He... So he says, listen. In... One of the other places... Galatians. He speaks of faith. That he says, faith... It was a faith manifest... Faith... It is really effective in God's sight. So you can do a lot of things... And have a wonderful manifestation... The field of motivation has to be gone over carefully. And he says, that which is... That love which is sacrificial. The love of God which... He says, that is a good move. Now, I want you to see it... As it is in the word of... That's a beautiful chapter. But so many never get this... Love is... Love, love... You will never understand... Unless you read... The... Tw... Uh... In London... In the... Museum there... They're not out on... And they let us see some... Old... From... Beginning... Right... Then when he had thought... Well, we will... In your twelfth chapter... You will find... He says... I... So he begins to tell us... That these gifts... And they like his son... In your twelfth chapter... You will find... He says... I want... Concerning... You see... I like... The body... And they like his son... To the body... That no gift... Is independent... Of another... Any more... Than the members of the body... Are independent... The ear... Can't see... The eye... Don't have a need of you... In the foot... To the hand... They are all together... In one... None of their... In... So he'll give us... Now... Uh... In the church... Health... Government... Are all apostles... Are all prophets... Are all teachers... Are all workers of miracles... You... Now look... Thirty-first verse... But... Covet... Earnestly... The best gifts... Now he's done... About to give... And... They have put... That last clause... And yet... Show I unto you... I will show you... A better... Now... I will show unto you... A more... Excellent... A lot of people... Don't... Never... Never spoken of in the word... Is a gift... It is a proof... Now he... He doesn't say... And behold... I'll show you... You have... The gift... God has given... And I have tried to help you... To see... The... The arrangement... Now... I will show unto you... A more... Excellent... Your gifts out there... All of that... This business... I will show you... Not a... By which... The gifts... He's talking about... A law... Which is to be used... In the... They had... The motive power... Back of it... Had resulted in this... Awful... I will show you... The... Motive... Which should... Govern... Your gifts... Though... Though... Means a possibility... Though... I have all these gifts... And the church... It was I couldn't get in church... With all the gifts... Out... You are hearing... Hallelujah... Whoo... He says... Though... I have... All these things... If I have... If I have not... A drop... Sounding... Now... Though... I speak with tongues... Of men and angels... I am become... A sound... And though... I have the gifts... Of prophecy... And understand... The... Mystery... All... Knowledge... And though... I be so all my good... To feed the poor... Though... I give my body... Now... You can go through that chapter... The... Agape... One time... I was called upon to... And... I had never met the... So... I prayed... And you know... I... I met him... Do you ever feel that way? I am meeting a person... Terrible... I had to pretend... Of course... Whoo... He knew... The power... Of the voice... He knew... All the information... Why he could preach... Like a... Counselor... I... I seen him... And an altar call... And sinners... Got saved... He might just... And people all... Bowing... And... So... I went through the... And I close that... Poem... I read you about... Well... God clouds... And so... I gone through a... God... Cloud... Cloud... Long... Furrows... One by one... Through... Our... Early morn... He tore... The... Lay of... Feet... I felt him walk... Each... Few was his... He only... Clouds... That he... Seed... To... He stood inside... So I gave... All these... He scattered... Far... Near... And left me... Nothing... They fell like... Seeds... He did not leave me... Them... Alone... To mourn... The loss... Of... To be thus... Stripped... Gave... Razor... Clay... For life... His... Radiant... Presence... No... Sweet... Then... Wait... With him... Well... Near... I didn't sit down... No... Now I know... I'm saved... And filled... With the Spirit... And he knows... The general technique... You know... The sequel of this? It wasn't more than... Well... The church found... For a year... Do you remember... It says... The gifts... Of the way... In which he had... Hand... Motivated... By the love of God... There was a... Self-spirit... That would seek... A grandness... Pain... How many gifts ever... Don't you? And that... Miserable... Low... Creature... Would use... The things... Of God... To establish... Himself... In that... That realm... Well... How could they be... Without it? Those people... Were saved... And blessed... In spite... Of the man... Not because of... Why? Because he was... Clever... And salvation... And he knew... All the... Fundamental... Phrases... You know... And you know... People don't know... Much... They... They believe... What he said... That... He may not be happy... And so... These poor people... Now... There... Where we find... That... The... Motive... Back of... He said... Here... You... You have had them... Out... When God wasn't within... A million miles... It's good people don't know that... Or they don't... But Paul knew it... And he exposed... He says... When you have... A gospel... The love of God... Never does... All those... This is... The love of God... Never does that... But... You will find... So... And I began to see... This strange creature... Is your word... It is a law... Now... I... I... I think I... A... A power... But it says... I have given you... Love... Now that's going to be the motive... By which... The... The manifestation... Well you may have all the gifts... You may have the love of God... But if there be not a discipline... It is a military term again... Paul uses so many... The word here... Is a discipline spirit... And it is used... In the Bible's form... Now let me give you... An illustration of that... Now... God's hand is on... That John isn't yet... Acquainted... God... Gave... Them... Power... And they had... Just as we know... He had power... Jesus had already given... He had the power... Do you think he loved the Lord? Yes... How much he appreciated... Loved the Lord... Well you really don't love me... The difficulty wasn't in power... It wasn't in love... Do you see it? Uh... Always remember... Here is... Oh... Oh... Oh... In me... Oh... Oh... Triumph... I don't know how... But God is going to get... After this man... Because he... He called him... Son of... So he lets him go out... And how do you know... How wonderful John... With great... Meetings... And... And he thunders... And thunders... And thunders... Well God lets him... You know that? Yeah... He lets anyone... I'd like to press him... Well I'm having such a... Thunder... Thunder... Now get in this little boat... Well my church is there... These people understand me... Well I'm leaving my shore... Well you know what he did? He just pushed... That's bad isn't it? When the Lord... He has to sing... He'd been thundering... So the Lord just left... And oh he begins to sing... Yes... All... Ministry... Day... Weeks... Oh God... Well in my church... When you get put on an isle... Always be careful not to... Let them along... People move... You're always disturbing... I know... I've been through it... I remember trying to help a person... God doesn't thank you... A lad... Was under... And he was suffering... And I'm a sympathetic... So I went... And they... And I prayed... And... You know you can do that? You can consult... And I went to my room... And just as... How he was suffering... There's a... In the place where I can deal with him... And I have to... Because it was such a... He may be there... To suffer... All this sort of... Oh Lord... Now... Now... Let them... How many of you... Know... The thunder... Not to scare a bird... God not to... So one day... When God sees... In this... Now you let me get... Yes... He has... Oh... That was so stupid... Oh my God... Fall... Back... Have any of you been... Out of the... All creation... Sky... The moon... People... Cities... Nations... Floods... He counts... Wind... Thunder... Lightning... He touches... Every... Tangible thing... That he has... How many of you ever hear... God... Did you ever hear... John... Thunder... But the most terrific... Thunder... It's terrific... It's terrifying... When God... Gets in there and... Thunder... God... Is thundering... God didn't call... John... Because... He didn't want... He didn't want... He didn't even say... He says... I brought you to... He had to walk... Out... Now... Do you see a change in this... Thundering... Ancient... God... Who thunders... All of creation... So... It is here... With your development... Now you have... Sun... It would be nice... To open... You're just... Nobody in earth... How many... Got anything... He... Who has begun... Precious Lord...
