Mike Bickle

Mike Bickle (1955 - ). American evangelical pastor, author, and founder of the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC), born in Kansas City, Missouri. Converted at 15 after hearing Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach at a 1970 Fellowship of Christian Athletes conference, he pastored several St. Louis churches before founding Kansas City Fellowship in 1982, later Metro Christian Fellowship. In 1999, he launched IHOPKC, pioneering 24/7 prayer and worship, growing to 2,500 staff and including a Bible college until its closure in 2024. Bickle authored books like Passion for Jesus (1994), emphasizing intimacy with God, eschatology, and Israel’s spiritual role. Associated with the Kansas City Prophets in the 1980s, he briefly aligned with John Wimber’s Vineyard movement until 1996. Married to Diane since 1973, they have two sons. His teachings, broadcast globally, focused on prayer and prophecy but faced criticism for controversial prophetic claims. In 2023, Bickle was dismissed from IHOPKC following allegations of misconduct, leading to his withdrawal from public ministry. His influence persists through archived sermons despite ongoing debates about his legacy

Sermon Summary
Mike Bickle emphasizes the prophetic warnings in Isaiah 30, where God speaks to the leaders of Jerusalem before the Assyrian invasion, urging them not to rely on Egypt for help but to trust in Him. He highlights the importance of understanding the context of Isaiah's prophecies, which have both immediate and future implications, particularly regarding the end times. Bickle stresses that true strength and deliverance come from returning to God and resting in His promises, rather than seeking worldly alliances. He encourages believers to engage deeply with God's word and to be prepared for the challenges ahead, while also holding onto the hope of God's mercy and restoration.

Father, we thank you. Lord, we thank you for the information that you gave us through the prophets for the most important and wonderful and challenging and glorious generation in human history that's yet to come before us. And Holy Spirit, I ask you, show us why you want us to know this information. I ask you, show us why you want us to say this information to other people. Connect our heart to understanding so we have greater resolve to go deep in this, to be bold in it. I thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. Well in Isaiah 30, paragraph A, Jesus is speaking to the leaders of Jerusalem sometime before the Assyrian invasion that was in 701 B.C. Now this 701, this is one of those dates, there's only about five Old Testament dates that I would say are must learn dates if you want to understand the prophets. And this is one of them, 701. And so this is during Isaiah's lifetime. This was the big negative event in his lifetime, 701. And Assyria, as you know, was the great superpower of that hour in the Middle East. It was the superpower of Assyria. It's basically made up of current Middle East nations today. They just called it Assyria. And the Assyrians, the mighty superpower, invaded the land of Judah, the land of Judah, and entered Jerusalem and surrounded it in 701 B.C. That was the most dramatic negative event in Isaiah's life, 701 B.C. So he's giving this prophecy right before that. Maybe a year or two, maybe five or ten years, nobody knows. But he was telling them, it's coming, it's coming, it's coming. And so the leaders of Israel, they didn't like him telling them that. Because the other big negative event, a date, was up north. Because remember, there's a civil war, where there's the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom. 721, twenty years earlier, the Assyrians wiped out the north. But the south stayed intact, and Isaiah's saying, what they did in the north, they're posturing to do in the south. And they did it in the north in 721, that was the big negative event up north. And 701, twenty years later, was the big negative event in the south, in Isaiah's generation. Those are just two really important dates. Paragraph B, the outline of Isaiah 30. I only give you a little bit of the context of the chapter, because if you don't understand a little bit of what's happening to the verses that don't pertain to the end times, but if you don't know a little bit about those verses, when we get to the end time verses, you kind of only, you have the story, not in context. And so I don't want to take Saturday nights and do the verse by verse on passages that aren't end time related, but I do want you to have a little bit of the story, a little bit of the table of contents a little bit, so when we get later in the chapter, you kind of understand the conversations going on. So he's, in the first two sections, which we're going to go through ever so brief, he's telling them, don't go trust Egypt to deliver you from Assyria. Trust God. Because the leaders of Jerusalem, the governmental leaders, they said, we're going to go to Egypt, and we're going to become partners, and between us and Egypt, we can throw off the superpower. And Isaiah said, don't you dare think that. Cry out to the covenant God, and he will break in supernaturally and help us. And of course, the leaders of Jerusalem, we looked at this last week, they said, Isaiah, you're naive. I mean, we have political, you know, we really understand all the nuances of our political skills and negotiations, and you're pretty naive. You go pray and tell us to trust God. We love you, but just stay out of our hair, because you're really just simplistic. And he said, I'm telling you, Isaiah said, don't trust Egypt. And then the last two parts of Isaiah 30, they're the passages that have to do with the end time storyline. Now remember, the end time storyline, many times there's a partial fulfillment of the prophecies in the generation of the prophet or near after, and then there's a complete fulfillment of it at the end of the age. Many prophecies have a partial temporary fulfillment within the time frame of the prophet who gave it, plus a few years, and it has a complete fulfillment at the end of the age. And that's straight through all the prophets. And if you get that point, which most of you have that point by now really clear, then you can see a little bit of the thing that happened in Isaiah's day, but you don't limit the passage to Isaiah's day and now dismiss it, but you're looking at what happened in Isaiah's day as a snapshot of a bigger drama that's going to happen at the end of the age. Let's look at Roman numeral two. So this is the first part of the chapter. He tells them, because the leaders of Jerusalem sent a delegation to Egypt, a political delegation to go establish an alliance, and what he says in paragraph A, the first three verses is, you're acting in rebellion and defiance to the word of the Lord by doing that. Paragraph B, he tells them, you're wasting your time by doing that. And so you can read paragraph B on your own, but I just want you to know that's kind of what's happening. He goes, you're going down through the south, the Negev area, the desert area. You're walking through the desert. The desert's got lions and snakes and all kinds of wild animals and you're walking with riches to go buy off Egypt. He goes, and you're going through all this effort and Egypt's going to disappoint you. That's what paragraph B, verses six and seven is about. Let's go to Roman numeral three. Now he really presses into them in Jerusalem leadership and he says, he gets heavy now. In verse eight to eleven, or eight and nine here, he tells them, I mean here's what the Lord says. The Lord says, Isaiah, I want you to write down on a tablet the prophecy I'm giving you, the negative and the positive, but I want them to see it on a tablet and I want it published throughout the land and I want it on record for future generations. That I warned them, I told them, and what I told them is going to come to pass. And so verse nine, Isaiah says, I mean verse eight, God tells Isaiah, go write it on a tablet. And the message, they're not going to really listen to you, but I want future generations to know that when I give a warning it really comes to pass. So this is for our benefit and the benefit of the saints through history. He goes, verse nine, here's the core problem. They're a rebellious people. And here's the manifestation of the rebellion. Because verse ten is what God calls rebellion. And this makes me a little bit uncomfortable because verse ten is real common in the church today. And I look at verse ten and I go, God if that's your, one of your definitions of rebellion, oh my goodness. But the Lord says, verse nine, the rebellious, and here's what I mean specifically. They tell the seers, seers and prophets are the same thing in essence, stop looking at visions. They tell the prophets, don't prophesy what's really going to happen. Only tell us nice things. If you're going to speak for God, all we want are smooth things. We don't want the other things. Now this was really personal to Isaiah and I want you to feel this personal to you because Isaiah's talking to the leaders of his generation because they were saying that to him. Stop telling us the negative. Only tell us about victory, breakthrough in the millennial kingdom. We don't want to hear about being disciplined. Stop it Isaiah. And so when Isaiah says they told the prophets to be quiet, he means himself. This is really personal which means he has to overcome this stigma of the mockery, the challenge of people mocking him, the people in governmental leadership. But these were the people of God in leadership of the government. They mocked him continually and they would not listen to him. And when I read this passage, I say messengers, forerunner messengers, it's messengers with the forerunner message, understand what Peter said. First know that there will be mockers. Isaiah dealt with it, Jeremiah dealt with it, Ezekiel dealt with it, every servant of the Lord dealt with it. But I find when I talk to prophetic people, they want to keep it positive and they want to build a reputation and get a profile of how cool they are. And I'm saying no, we've got to say the good and the bad, not just the good. I know prophetic people that aren't like that, but I know a lot that are like that. They're just focused on the positive only and Isaiah said, the Lord warned me about that. He told me to write it down that this is not okay with him. In paragraph B, in verses 12 to 14, he says, let me tell you what this is going to be like. He said, you're like a bulging wall that the crack is getting bigger and bigger and bigger and you're going to break as a nation. But the problem is, you're not going to break this month or next month or this year or next year. The crack may take a few years, there's a bulge in the wall, but when it breaks, it's going to come down like thunder suddenly and fully. And so they looked at him and said, hey, it's not worse. He goes, the crack is getting bigger and bigger. And because it was delayed a little bit, the real crisis, they wrote off Isaiah, but he's describing it right here. And again, I appreciate this because I can understand that Isaiah was understanding the human dynamics that they were saying, there's no problem. I mean, the problems kind of rise up for a minute, then they go away and we fix them and everything's okay, business as usual. And Isaiah says, no, the bulging wall is going to break. And when it breaks, he says right here in verse 13, he goes, it will be sudden and instant when it collapses, but because it's prolonged a little bit, don't create a false security, it's not going to happen. Again, it sounds like just the conversations even in the body of Christ today. Paragraph C, now we're kind of getting to more towards the, well, he's talking to them in their generation, but this really has a powerful application in the generation of the Lord returns. Verse 15, Isaiah says, here's what God wants you to do. He wants you to return and rest. Now, return means repent. He's talking to the cynical, scornful leaders in Jerusalem. These are religious leaders and political leaders. These are quote believers. He says, I want you to return, which means return back to God and the, and the place of the word return, put the word repent, repent of your mindset where you're rejecting the word of the Lord. And listen, this is interesting. He says, come to rest. But the way that you come to rest is by believing the word of the Lord. They're rejecting the word of the Lord. They're saying, Isaiah, we like you. You're a good guy. Just stay out of our way. We really got the business of running a nation. We got to be realistic and you're not very realistic. And Isaiah saying, you're not going to come to rest and you're not going to be saved. And the word saved means delivered. He's talking about the nation being delivered or the people being delivered. He's not talking about being born again right here. He means being delivered. He goes, you got to return. You got to connect with what God's saying. You will find rest in that, in interacting with the Lord, not in going to Egypt to create all these alliances. There's no rest in that. And there's no, there's no being saved, which means delivered as a nation. He goes, another way I can say it, verse 15, in quietness and confidence, you'll find strength. Now the quietness means that they're taking the fearful situation. They're bringing it to God. They're interacting with God and they're finding strength in that posture. Now this verse is one of the key reasons, although we don't use this verse, but this is one of the key reasons that we're wanting to establish a forerunner research group so we can get information so that people can return and see it and then they can rest in assurance there's a king that's leading the earth. Yes, there's negative, but there's positive, but he's in control and they can rest. And then quietness instead of agitation is the idea. Quietness instead of what's going on? You know, is the world like the train run off the tracks? Is anybody leading this thing? That's the opposite of quietness. That's the opposite of confidence in an emerging storm. And what Isaiah says, and this is what we really anchor, I mean part of our logic is, we will find strength in our spirit when we come to grips with the storyline of the Bible, the prophetic words, the scriptural ones I'm talking about, and we realign with them a thousand times a thousand, we find strength and we're not in the same place of vulnerability of just wondering what's happened and being scared and agitated or deceived or offended or all those things that we've talked about a number of times because there's power in knowledge. If you know the king and you know his plan, even broad strokes, because no one's going to know all the details, there's power in it and the power is a calm heart because we know it's unfolding with wisdom and with intentionality in it and that's where the strength is. But he says here at the end of verse 15 he says, but, or verse 16, he goes, you wouldn't do it. Matter of fact, you flee on horses down south to Egypt to make this political alliance and if that's your stand, which it was, then you shall flee. He goes, if you're going to leave the word of the Lord and what I'm telling you and run down and make that alliance, because there's nothing wrong with alliances, but it's alliances that are against the will of God and alliances that make you compromise your relationship with God and that's what that alliance was. I mean, nations and alliances are, there's some good that can happen in that, but when it's an alliance that's specifically against the will of God and it's an alliance that makes the people of God compromise their relationship with God, that alliance is more than just a bad deal. It's called rebellion. And he says, go ahead and flee on horses. Go down south to Egypt. Go meet with all of their leaders of the prime minister's cabinet, but I tell you, at the end of the day, you will flee. And what he means is, it's not going to work. Egypt's going to fail you and the superpower Assyria is coming after you and you will flee then and that day, but then it will be too late. So that's what is going on. Now we're transitioning, top of page two. Now we're looking at the end time passages. And again, there's many of the same themes are repeated over and over, but I don't want you to miss the power and the meaning of a truth that's repeated over and over. Meaning the truth that's repeated most is that great trouble is coming. The truth that is most ignored in the body of Christ, great trouble is coming. You know, the Lord is the ultimate psychologist, meaning understanding the human dynamics. So right through the Bible, he says it over and over and over. And he says, I couldn't have repeated it more. And yet the body of Christ just generally, because we're normal human response, that's the one area we're not connected to. And so the force of the repetition through the prophets, old and new testament, apostles and prophets, the force of the repetition is God's message. He's saying, what will it take to get my people to look at it soberly and grapple with it in context to the positive things under my leadership so they live in quietness and confidence instead of agitation and fear and confusion so they have strength in their heart. So he says in verse 18, now he begins the positive. He says, verse 18, let's read a couple verses here and then go back and make comments on various phrases here. He goes, therefore the Lord will wait. The Lord will wait that he may be gracious to you. He's talking to Jerusalem specifically. And the southern kingdom, which is called Judah, because of the civil war, the northern kingdom is called Israel, the southern kingdom is called Judah. He goes, the Lord is waiting to be gracious. And they're going, waiting to be gracious? Okay, I thought you said he was going to judge us. He goes, if you don't repent, he is going to judge you, but the judgment of God on his people is called discipline. And the Lord's discipline is because he loves us. You know, I talk to people all the time just through the years and they say, you know, is he a God of love or a God of judgment? I go, that's a completely wrong question. He releases his judgments because he loves us. His judgments to his people are discipline. It's to wake them up so they can line up with him, so they can be in the vein of safety and blessing. So the Lord, it says in Proverbs 3, 12, that he disciplines his children like a father who delights in his sons. So the discipline or the judgment of the Lord on his people is not a question of why is it different from love. It is love. Because a parent that delights in their children, see their children going off the path in a strong, fast way of destruction, if they don't stand in the way and do something, how can that parent say to that young child, oh, I really love you? Well, I want to give him liberty. No, you're leading them to chaos and confusion. You must intervene. That's what the Lord is saying. So there is no dichotomy between judgment and love. But he goes, he wants to be gracious to you. That's the longing. The whole thing is about him manifesting his grace. Therefore, he will be exalted that he may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are those who wait for him. For the Lord shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem and you shall weep no more. For he will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry. When he hears it, he will answer you. So let's look at the phrase, he will be exalted. What Isaiah is saying, the Lord is, he so delights in mercy. The verse in Micah 7, 18, I love it. The Lord says, I delight in mercy. And he magnifies himself when he manifests his mercy. But he won't manifest his mercy in a way that contradicts who he is. So he won't say, well, you know, boys will be boys. I'll just give you mercy. Do what you want. Because he says he's a God of justice. So he goes, I'll give you my mercy to bring you into alignment with love. To bring you into alignment with wisdom. So that you're in alignment with what I'm doing and we can all rejoice together. So I will exalt myself when I show mercy. But look what he says right after that. Right here in verse 18. But remember, I'm a God of justice. God doesn't suspend one attribute to exercise another. He says, I'm a God of justice. I'm absolutely true to myself. I don't suspend my mercy when I show judgment and I don't suspend my judgment when I show mercy. It's a seamless, completely unified reality. So remember, in my mercy, I delight in it and I magnify myself when I show it. But I am a God of justice. So don't get some confused idea that because I'm merciful, it doesn't matter if you cast off my leadership. That's what he's saying here. He says, for the Lord is a God of justice. And look at the phrase, the Lord waits. Verse 18, for the Lord will wait. Isn't this interesting? We wait on the Lord. That's biblical. We have that right here in the passage. But God waits on us. I mean, which is it? Who's waiting on who? The Lord's saying, look at the paragraph here, the Lord waits. He's waiting for his people to turn to him. I don't mean in a casual way, but to turn to his leadership in a very intentional way. But that's not all that he's waiting for. He's waiting for Jerusalem to honor the prophetic words, to know them, to embrace them, to believe in them and to have confidence that they're good. Not to grit their teeth and say, oh God, you're the boss. Your stuff is bad, but you're the boss. So I'm going to just shut up and agree with it. No. It's to embrace it, understanding it's good leadership. His leadership is excellent. But waiting on the Lord is more than embracing him and turning to him and understanding his leadership is good. Waiting on him, he's waiting for us to cry out to him. He's waiting for us to cry out to him. What he says here in verse 19, at the end of it, he will be very gracious to you when he hears the sound of your cry. When he hears it, then he will intervene. He says, I'm waiting. You're waiting on me to show my mercy. I'm waiting on you to embrace my leadership and cry out for the full promise of God that I gave you. Well, Lord, you know where I'm at. I've said before, Lord, you have my address. Your database is up to date. I mean, you know exactly where I'm at. And the Lord says, it's not a matter of me not finding you. I want to hear the sound of your voice. Now, we know prayer is not about giving God information he doesn't have. Prayer is not about information. Prayer is about conversation. The Lord says, I know what you need, and I know what I want, but I want you interacting with me because I'm a God of relationship, and I'm not going to do it separated from you interacting with me. He's the covenant God. That's what Jehovah means, the God of covenant. So God has blessings. Now, this is a kingdom principle that's true all through salvation history, all through redemptive history. It's true in our life today, unrelated to the end times, but it really comes into dynamic relevance in the generation the Lord returns because many glorious revival promises he says, I'm offering, and great darkness is increasing, and that's the hour of history. The body of Christ must be in deep interaction with him, and he says, I'm not changing the way I run my kingdom. I'm waiting on you, and when I hear you believe me for the promises I gave you, and when I hear you or watch you receive my leadership and have confidence in it, now we're talking because I want relationship with you. I don't want to just cover you. I want to be with you, and well, Lord, I love you, but I'm busy. Well, I'll just starve you out then, and just you get busy, but I'll let it unfold and let you get unbusy because the trouble's going to mount up, and you interacting with me is going to be more important than what you're doing now as things increase, and I use that funny little illustration. I always picture of the couch potato Christian, which there's many of them. They're kind of stuck on the couch with their remote control, and they're just like, Lord, I love you, but I'm really busy. This game is like so good. There's nothing wrong with watching a game, but I'm just so captured by this movie, this, this, this, this, and this, and the Lord says, good. I got a lot of things I want to give you. The Lord doesn't really say good. I have a lot of things I want to give you, but I'm going to hold out until you wake up, and the pressure will wake you up in a minute. I don't want you to have to wait for the pressure, but I'm going to wait until I hear the sound of your cry. When I hear the sound of your cry, then I'm going to release more because I'm a God of relationship, and there's no generation. This is more true than the generation the Lord returns when the church is in that identity of a bride crying out, come, Lord Jesus, and that intimate exchange. There's no generation like the bridegroom generation where the body of Christ with a heart of love and confidence, no matter where the darkness is, they're rooted in love. They're confident in love, and they're crying out. They're interacting with Him. That's the generation that's going to see the fullness, and what that generation is going to happen is like one guy said, well, it's all going to pan out, and I like what Alan Hood says. He goes, yeah, it will pan out, but the issue is will it pan out good for you? It is going to pan out regardless what you or I do, but it may not pan out good for us or our children or grandchildren. I want to be yoked to the Lord. He says, Mike, I want to hear your voice. Cry out to me, and I'll give you what I promised, but maybe not immediately. I want the dialogue to continue. So the Lord, He hears the sound of our cry, and that's what He's waiting for. Look at number six here. It says, blessed are all of those who wait on the Lord. Blessed are those who wait on the Lord. Now, what's going on is the darkness is increasing in Isaiah's day. The Assyrians are getting closer and closer, and they actually end up invading the land. And they end up taking, history says, 200,000 captives from the south. They take them out and put them in work camps and prison camps. 200,000. That could have been avoided. Up north, the numbers were bigger. But what Isaiah said really happened. It really bore down heavy down south, but it wasn't total destruction, but it really disrupted that generation. And the Lord says, I'm blessed are those that wait for Me. All of you that are waiting on the Lord. And we wait on the Lord in two ways. One way that we wait on the Lord is that we talk to Him. We cry out to Him. The Lord says, wait on Me, which means interact with Me. And the other way we wait on Him is that we refuse to draw back. A lot of people draw back. They get offended at the Lord's leadership, or they get spiritually dull, or they get captured in a besetting sin, and they cease to wait on the Lord. They lose their way. And the Lord says, to Isaiah's generation, as the Assyrians, the superpower, gets closer and closer, blessed are the people engaging with Me and pressing in and not drawing back and entering into spiritual retirement to go do their other things. But they're getting hotter in their relationship with Me. Now that was true in Isaiah's day, which it was. How much more relevant is this in the generation the Lord returns? The Lord looks down at individuals and He looks down at people. Blessed are the people that are waiting on Me. This is the very phrase, or very near phrase, the very principle Jesus says over and over when He teaches on the end times. Watch and wait. Watch and wait. He's talking this verse, this concept right here. Watch and wait. Watch what's happening in the nations. Watch what My Word says. Interact with My heart. Don't retreat in offense or boredom or just spiritual dullness. Interact. Stay engaged. Stay engaged. Blessed are those who stay engaged. That's what He's saying. Now I think it's very significant that this is the very phrase or principle that Jesus says the most, literally pulling it right out of Isaiah 30, and of course you can find it in a number of other places as well. Let's look at paragraph B, just to go back to what I already said, but I'll say it again. He says, God wants to show mercy. As a matter of fact, He's exalted. He magnifies Himself when He shows mercy. He loves to show mercy. He's at His best showing mercy, but don't get presumptuous. He's a God of justice. Don't think He's so soft in His love for mercy He's going to let the way of His kingdom go into the path of darkness. He's not going to do it. He's going to hold the line because He can't deny Himself. He's just in all that He does. When He looks down at His church or He looks down at Israel in Isaiah's day, He will confront the sin that is persisted in. If there's weakness and we repent and we stumble, we repent, we cry out, the Lord says, hey, I can work with that. I can work with that because I love mercy. I magnify myself in my mercy, but if you anchor in that sin and just say, I'm just going to get stuck in my bitterness. I'm going to get stuck in my immorality and do what I want to do. I'm going to get stuck in my covetousness. I'm going to do what I want to do with money regardless of the will of God. I'm going to get stuck in a little drunkenness, a little bit of drugs. I'm going to get stuck in wrong things. The Lord says, you got to know I do magnify myself in mercy, but I am a God that never changes. You have to know I'm coming after you to get your attention because I love you that much. Okay, paragraph C. He makes the statement in verse 19. It seems you think, huh, what's he talking about? He says, for the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem. This is quite a significant statement because Isaiah is 700 years B.C. approximately, so 2700 years ago. For 2700 years, most of that time, it looked like nobody would hardly survive at Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been mostly desolate in that 2700 years. Not all of it, but most of it. And so when the Jews would look at Zion, Zion and Jerusalem are interchangeable words in many contexts. Zion technically is more than just Jerusalem, but often it's a prophetic name for Jerusalem. They kind of go hand-in-hand together, so he's saying this. He goes, it may look like my purpose of Jerusalem is over. You know, when Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king, came in in 586 B.C., about a hundred years after Isaiah, he came in and destroyed the city. That was the real big negative date. If I told you to remember 701 when the Assyrians came, well, about 150 years later, the Babylonians came. It's the same basic geographic area in the Middle East. Babylon just took over and beat up Assyria, and they became the superpower. Not the exact area, but mostly the same area. They came in and took Jerusalem into captivity and burned the city to the ground. And it looked like it's never going to recover. Then after Jesus, after his generation, Rome did it in 70 A.D. again. And that's one of those others. Again, there's only about five or six dates. 70 A.D. is another one. They just decimated Jerusalem. And for 2,000 years, Jerusalem was really not looking very positive. But God says, I declare, they will live in safety in Jerusalem. And you know, the theologians and the Bible prophecy people have looked at this passage and go, nobody's in Jerusalem. What do you mean? And the Lord says, you wait and see. I'm going to restore Jerusalem. I'm going to fill it up with people. Then the nations are going to surround it again with the Antichrist armies. And it's going to look like we're going to lose them again. But I've got good news for you. Jerusalem will be saved. And there will be people in Jerusalem forever and forever. It is the most secure city in history, though in history, it's the most conquered city. You know, Jerusalem has been changed hands by conquerors over 40 times. And mostly often destroyed in those 40 times. I don't know the exact number that it's been. Really, the city has been crippled and destroyed more than Nebuchadnezzar and the Romans. A couple other times as well. But it's changed hands 40 times. So this promise in paragraph C, when it seems impossible. But remember, the storyline isn't just what God's doing in Israel. That's the main storyline. This same thing will be spoken over other cities. The Lord says, when it looks like the city is over and then the end times scenario unfolds and the Antichrist is moving strong and it's like there is no hope. The Lord says, look at Jerusalem. What I'm doing there, I will do something in that kind of way in other cities across the earth. I'm the God of the nations. I'm going to restore. He says in paragraph D here, he says the day is coming. It's verse 19 again, where you will weep no more. You know, for 2700 years, most of it, the Jewish people said, really? Weep no more? When is that going to come? When we never weep again with sorrow. And the God of Israel says, I promise you. I promise you the day is coming. But the most dangerous enemy in Israel's history will be the most dangerous enemy of the nations, of the Gentile nations. It's the Antichrist empire. The most hostile, the most powerful, the most ruthlessly cruel empire is coming against Jerusalem again and it will surpass all other attacks. But it's the same storyline that's going to hit other cities. You know, again, I've mentioned, I've talked to people that says, oh, I don't want to be in Israel when that happens. I go, well, I understand that logic. But you think like it's going to be easy everywhere else? I mean, you think that, like where are you thinking you're going that's going to just be like, wow, you're just going to continue with life as normal? The whole earth is going to be shaken. I mean, Isaiah 24, you know, I think Stuart took you through that. Okay, let's look at top of page three. Top of page three. So he's going on again. Now he's talking to Isaiah's generation, but he's talking always with a view to a far greater scope of intensity and the whole geographic, the whole earth is in the great drama. And he's talking about the global drama, but using the little kind of cameo right there of Jerusalem in that point in time. So what happened in Isaiah's day? I've said it, I'll say it a bunch more times. What happened in his day and a little bit of time after was just a snapshot as to what's going to happen on the global scene in that generation. So that's why we look at these principles and we say, whatever you do in Jerusalem, good and bad, it's going to be like in like manner, but maybe a lesser degree in other parts around the world as well. So I'm looking at the storyline and know it's going to apply all over the earth. And so I look at this and I go, this is really personal to wherever anybody lives. He says in verse 20 to Israel, he says, though the Lord has given you the bread of adversity. Now the bread of adversity means he's allowed trouble to be your daily food. It's not, he's given you the way of trouble. And when God gives the bread of adversity, sometimes it's God's direct hand. Sometimes the Lord takes a step back and gives the enemy more room. Sometimes it's human sin having its way. So sometimes it's direct God's intervening and he's disciplining. Other times he disciplines by taking a step back. He lets the enemy, lets Satan, the antichrist at the end of the age, have more room to cause trouble. But the Lord says it still is the bread of adversity I'm using to wake you up. And sometimes it's just sinful human beings coming against each other. And it's not mostly God or the devil, but the Lord's taking a step back. He's going, that's all part of my plan. I just want to wake you up. I want you talking to me. I want you interacting with me, because together we can go forward in a way that will make sense. He goes, your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes will see your teachers. That's a very important point because the teachers or the prophetic messengers, not just prophets, but those that were really standing for the word of the Lord. In Isaiah's day, they were being mocked. In other times of history, whoever stood true for the Lord's word, they would be persecuted, ridiculed, rejected, put in prison, or just mocked and just kind of marginalized in the society. He says the day is going to come where your teachers, those that will boldly say what God says in His word, they will no longer be in a corner. They won't be hiding. They won't be ducking. They won't be watching what's going on. He goes, the day is coming when the Lord returns where He says, you will see your teachers face to face. He goes, I'm going to bring them out of the closet fully. But what I get when I read this verse is that I know there's going to be total victory, but I know that there's pressure on the messengers all the way to the end. And they're being tempted to go back in the corner and to be silenced because the promise is God's going to reverse it when Jesus returns. That means there's a real issue before He returns, that the teachers are backing away in a corner, which doesn't necessarily mean literally they're living in a corner, but they're not speaking the word of the Lord. But the Lord says, here, I'm going to, when my Son comes, I'm going to fill the earth with glorious teaching, but between now and then, understand that I do have an answer. I am going to restore this whole thing. And so Israel was encouraged by that, that they will never again have to, the godly men and women, be in a corner and be silenced in any way. He says, in that day, now this is when the Lord returns, but these principles remember, whatever happens in fullness when He returns happens in part right now. So whatever He will do in fullness when He comes, we know it's in His personality. We know it's in His plan. We know He thinks this way. So whatever He's promised to do, I go, Lord, I know You think this way. I know You like this stuff. And so we have full confidence that whatever will happen in fullness when He comes will happen in part, but not just in part, in an increasing way. It will happen more and more the closer we get to His coming. And what He's saying here, He's talking actually about prophetic ministry. He's talking about the Spirit of the Lord speaking to us, whether directly. This is more direct instead of through teachers. He says, your ears will hear a word. You know, right when you're in flight, right behind you, you're getting ready to go right, the word of the Lord will come and says, go left. You think, well, thank you, Lord. It will come from behind you and it will be there just in the nick of time. This is Holy Spirit ministry. Jesus guiding His people. This isn't Jesus speaking through a teacher. This is the whole Jesus speaking by the Holy Spirit. And He says, I'm going to tell you when to turn right. I'm going to tell you when to turn left. I'm not going to leave you in the dark. Now, this is going to happen forever, by the way. This is how He's going to lead His people in the millennia. I mean, everyone's going to have this dynamic interaction. But this is one of the issues of the Acts chapter 2, that in the last days I will pour out My Spirit, dreams and visions, signs and wonders. And now we know that started that. I mean, we all know it started in the book of Acts. But that was only a beginning down payment in Acts 2. That all of My people will prophesy is connected. I connect it to this verse here. The whisper of God is going to be in My people when they don't know where to go, but they're connected to Me. They're talking to Me. They're in line with My Word. They're grasping the storyline. They have a fresh, waiting-on-Me relationship engaging. I'll whisper right and left all the time. They won't even know. They're guaranteed to go right. And I'll tell them at the last second. And I will direct them continually. And I will show them the way forward. I mean, this is a remarkable reality. Okay, let's look at paragraph F. Now He's going to describe a bit of what He's going to do in the land when He comes in fullness. I mean, at His second coming. He's going to reverse everything that is lacking, particularly in the Great Tribulation. But it's not like we wait until the Lord appears before He does any of this. I believe He's doing these kinds of things even now here and there. He's releasing His hand and His abundance in natural things here and there, not just when He returns. Because remember, He's the same Jesus. He's not a different person in His personality when He returns. He's the same person right now. And so whatever I see here in verse 23 to 26, I say, Lord, if You'll do it then in fullness, You'll do it now in part. And You'll do it more and more and more. So I'm not going to wait on any of these promises until then, because I know it's in Your heart now. So I'm pressing You for them right now. So He tells them in verse 23, the issue of rain. Now you know the issue of rain in Israel is really, the Lord put them in the part of the earth where they did not have a guaranteed natural water supply. That was on purpose. He put them there. He didn't like say, oh no, I forgot. You know, I didn't put enough water there. Ooh, I gave all the oil to the Islamic nations. I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking when I did that. No, He knew all that. He set it up to where Israel had to interact with Him. Well, it's the same thing. He says, if I did that to Israel, guess what? That's what I do with my people. Even our own lives are, He leads us in a way often where we have certain deficiencies around us, so we have to interact with Him for His miraculous breakthrough. He goes, if I do it to Israel, this is the way I do it. So I personalize this, but He says in verse 23, I mean the most significant part of life is water. And if you read Revelation 11 verse 6, the two witnesses, it says one of the things the two witnesses do is they speak the word of the Lord and cause drought for three and a half years, like Elijah did. They do what Elijah did. And it's in Israel, in the Middle East, there's this drought. But they can release it and turn it around just like Elijah could. But there's a forbidding, formidable drought that's going on in the land at that time. So when He says, I'm going to send you rain, this is a really big promise. He says, and when I send rain, it's going to cause the bread of increase. I'm going to have abundance in the agricultural world. There will be plenty. Because of all the collisions at the end, and the lack of rain and water, and all the military collisions and things going on, natural disasters, the Lord says there will be a concern about water and about abundance of agriculture, food and supplies. And the Lord says, I know it's in my heart, it's in front of me, I'm not forgetting anything. I really believe that before the Lord returns, we're going to see, one of the miracles that He did repeatedly was the multiplying of food. It's in His heart to give abundance of water and food. That's in His heart to do. Because we see it in the prophets all over. Again, He does it globally when He returns. I mean, the whole atmosphere and the agriculture changes. But I know it's in His heart to release miracles in these lines as well. He goes, in that day your cattle will feed in large pastures. Because the idea of the cattle were in drought and in famine and not being fed properly, He's giving the reversal. Now, you know, that doesn't mean a lot to us right now. We've got, you know, you go get a hamburger any time you want, you're fine. But the day is coming throughout the world where that will be a bigger issue than it is now. And the Lord says, I've got it right there in the text here. Okay, let's look at verse 25. He goes back to the issue of water. This is really exciting and wow! Verse 25 and 26. He goes, there's going to be so much water in Israel, but this is going to be true around the world, not just Israel. Every high mountain and every high hill will have a river on it. Like, what? You can't get a river on the top of a mountain. The Lord says, watch. I'm going to fill the earth. He's going to make the whole earth a Garden of Eden. That's what He's going to do in the millennium. He goes, I'm going to have water in streams on every high mountain and every high hill because I'm the God of creation and this is part of my leadership. So He will say, well, Lord, if you're going to do that supernatural work when you come, will you ever supernaturally supply water, I mean, by blessing rivers and streams and otherwise? And the answer I feel is like, yes, this is in my heart. It hasn't escaped my notice and it's what I like to do. So what do you think? I know it's missing when it's missing. It's in my heart to give it abundance and I'm the God of power. You're in a relationship with me? Yes. Let's talk about these areas. So I go, good. I got the water verses. Verse 25, there you have it. He says, but this will happen. He really says something intense, which we'll get at in a moment. This is going to happen in the day of the great slaughter. Now there was a day of great slaughter in Isaiah's day in 701 BC when Israel, again Assyria, surrounded the nation to 200,000 Israel, I mean, people from the south, from Judah into prison. But there was another issue of why it was the great slaughter because the angel of the Lord, Hezekiah was the king there at that time. And Hezekiah listened to Isaiah and Hezekiah says, you know what? My guys went to Egypt because they were Hezekiah's. It was his cabinet that went to Egypt. He goes, I'm forsaking that. I'm repenting of that. We've lost 200,000 people. And he cried out, oh God, I return. And God sent the angel of the Lord when they were surrounded all around Jerusalem. And the angel of the Lord killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night. 185,000 were slaughtered in one day. And we think, wow. And Isaiah said, Hezekiah, we could have had this happening a long time ago if you would have done what I told you. But what's exciting for us is this day of great slaughter, the greatest slaughter ever in history is yet future. The greatest gathering around Israel is yet future. And there's going to be a slaughter yet future. And it won't be the angel of the Lord killing 185,000 like in Isaiah's day because that was a cameo. That was a snapshot. It's going to be the Lord Jesus stepping out of heaven, not an angel. And it's going to be all the armies of the earth. And He's going to slaughter them as the greater David in that way and liberate the nations. So what we see in Isaiah's day is only a snapshot. But I read that little story. It's pretty exciting. 185,000 by one angel. That's pretty neat when God's on your side that much. But the Lord says, no, it'll be millions. And it won't be an angel. It will be my beloved Son coming from heaven. Because that's the story that this is talking about. This wasn't only just about Isaiah's day. Of course it was about Isaiah's day, but much more. But the day of the great slaughter is yet future. And again it's mentioned over and over. It's not the slaughter of quote the innocents. It's the slaughter of the Antichrist empire that have taken the mark of the beast. They worship Him loyally. They're demon possessed. They're killing the people of God. And they're charging in to destroy Jerusalem and annihilate the Jewish people. And they're killing Christians. And Jesus, there's a moment where He says enough after three and a half years. And He is that mighty greater than an angel who comes and delivers Jerusalem, the body of Christ, and the nations at large. Then verse 26. This is really, this is literal. This is really real. Because some commentators, I read it, they make it spiritual. And I go, no! Don't throw this away to being a symbol. This is real. The light of the moon will be as bright as the sun. So that means at the night, there will be light. And the light of the sun will be seven times stronger. Now the way we look at that right now, if the sun was seven times stronger, that the agriculture would burn up and everybody would die. And I look at that and I go, huh. And the Lord says, no. Don't worry. I really got this thing under control. But I know what I'm doing. But there's a little hint. And that's in Isaiah chapter, what's it, 24 verse 23. I'm sure two are covered in it. It's one of my favorite verses. One of my hundred favorite verses. But anyway, Isaiah 24, I think it's verse 23, where it says the sun and the moon will be embarrassed because of the glory of the Lord when He sits among His elders when He comes back to the earth. And so the sun and the moon will be embarrassed because the glory of the Lamb of God, His face illuminates the New Jerusalem. It says there is no need for a light because the light of the Lamb. And when He appeared to John in Revelation 1, His face was the brightness of the sun. But it will illuminate the New Jerusalem. Who is this man? He's fully God and fully man. And He's the one that is orchestrating this storyline. This isn't a fiction story. This isn't just a, this is not a horror story. This is God saying, I'm going to bring the earth into an optimum environment where everybody will choose sin or righteousness and they'll go deep in one direction or the other eventually. That's what I'm doing with this. And I'm going to cause love to prevail on the planet. I'm that God. I'm stronger than the sun. You're in good hands because it's my plan. So don't let anybody steal this out of your heart and say, well, I don't like the God of judgment. I like the God of love. So I'm throwing all this away because I just want to be happy. Don't go there. Go with, I'm going to wait on the Lord. I'm going to embrace His word. I'm going to engage in His leadership. I'm going to trust who He is. Now I don't fully get all the, obviously not even close, nobody does, the ramifications of the, of the moon being bright at night and the sun being bright. And we don't know if it's always or if it's the time when the Lord returns, it's a one-time deal. We don't really know if it's, you know, because we know that right before the Lord comes, that all the stars are dark and the sun is everything. The whole earth is covered in darkness. When you read the 10 or 12 passages, the world is filled with darkness. And it's, it's almost like God, the Father says, son, it's time to go back. But before you go back, I'm going to pull the switch and turn all the lights off and you're going to make your grand entrance. And when you, the shout, the shout of God, the trumpet of the angel was blown. I'm going to pull the lights on and the whole earth is going to be filled with the glory of God. And nobody is going to miss it. When you come the second time you were born in a stable, the first time, the second time I'm turning all the lights off and I'm turning them all back on in one moment. And it could be that verse 26 is in proximity to his return and not long-term. We don't know, but I know one thing, the one who has power over it's really smart and he's really good and he knows what he's doing. And he really likes me. I mean, he likes us. He likes all of us. He really likes us. He really does. Okay. Let's look at top of page four. Oh, by the way, uh, you don't know this. Uh, some of you on Friday nights, but if you're really wanting to study this, I typically get four pages or six pages on Friday. And then on Sunday night, I make it go to 12 pages. So like when I get done with this, I go home. I'm like, I'm so excited. I go right home. I keep working. I have so many more things to put in this, but I don't want, I can't fit them on the page, but on an electronic document, I can put as much as I want. And so I go home and work on this, get up early, work on it, go to the Saturday morning thing, hear all these great ideas, go home Saturday afternoon, work on it. Saturday night, work on it. Sunday morning, get up early, work on it. Then Sunday night, I send it back, get it edited. So it's about 12 pages with a lot more detail and a lot more verses. So if you like, if you want more, so get the Sunday night version, but I never, I don't have space and time. And if I handed 12 pages, you'd just go, Oh, 12 pages. I'll never get it. Forget it. So I give you the little sneaker for page one, you know, but there's so much more to these and, and there's so much more I don't get. And I want to really, really grow this thing out a bit. So I'm just going to end with this. And I look at this top of page four, I'll just say this to stir you up, but I'll have a lot more Sunday night if you want to get it. This is one of the most dramatic second coming descriptions in the Bible. Now it's in context. God is breaking it in power in Isaiah's day to stop the Assyrians. Because remember in 701, the Assyrians came in, they took 200,000 captives. They surrounded Jerusalem, but the angel came and destroyed them. And so he's describing a little bit of how the Lord interacted there. But I tell you, there's a bigger storyline than an angel coming to Jerusalem. And there's a fullness here. This is a glorious second coming passage with all kinds of details about who he is and what he's like. But I think we've gone long enough, except for, I got to sneak in verse 29. Look at this, that when all these negative things happen, verse 29, it says, the people of God will have a song. They will have gladness. So when, when we look at it at a glance and we don't get it and it doesn't really come together, it's like, oh no. Isaiah says, no, no, no. Go deeper in the message. Get more of the storyline because verse 29, I promise you this, you'll have a song in the night. The earth will be in a nighttime mode, a nighttime season. But my people, look what it says. They will have gladness of heart because they will see, they will, Jesus said in Luke 21, when you see the distress of the nations, lift your head up because your salvation, not just your personal, the salvation of the earth is coming. The king is coming any time now. And that song and the gladness, I believe it will be the church's most challenging, but the church's happiest hour in history. Clearly the most powerful hour and the most dedicated hour, but I think there'll be gladness of heart. And one more little point I got to slip in here. Look at verse 32. It's the same theme that in verse 32, he says, when I'm judging the Assyrian, now we're talking about the end time Assyrian, the Antichrist, he says, I'm going to do it with tambourines and harps. I'm going to have people all over the earth singing the songs of God, playing prophetic instruments, the house of prayer movement. I don't mean our movement, but I'm talking about the house of prayer culture all over the earth. There'll be singing and intercession and crying out. And it says in verse 32, more than just having a song, this is, I'm going to release judgment on the enemy in concert with the instruments and the songs of my people that are on the earth. So you can read that in verse 32, but I've gone so long tonight and all these subjects come up over and over again. So I'm just going to go ahead and cut it short and add the extra pages for Sunday night. If you want them. Amen. Let's stand. Let's stand before the Lord. Oh, I love you, Jesus. I love your story. Lord, we love your story. I feel the song in my heart tonight. I feel the beginning of new gladness. Lord, I see you the greater one and the storyline crescendoing in the glory of God. Oh, blessed are those who wait on the Lord. I'm going to go back to that passage. Blessed are those who wait on the Lord now. Works have got the nations at his feet. He breaks the bow, bends the spear and tells the wars to cease. Mighty one of Israel, you are on our side. We walk by faith in God who burns the chariots with fire. Lord, of course you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us, Lord, you're with us. We are with you, Jesus. O God of Jacob, fierce and great, You lift Your voice to speak The earth, it bows, and all the mountains move into the sea O Lord, You know the hearts of men, and still You let us fail O God who makes the mountains melt, and rest for us and them O God who makes the mountains melt, and rest for us and them The Lord who holds Your wind, with us in the flight With us as a shelter, with us in the storm You will lead us, with us would we go But with the Lord, oh, of sure lead us With us in the fight, with us as a shelter With us in the storm You will lead us, through the fiercest battle With us would we go, but with the Lord, oh Backing away, distracted, ensnared, offended, dull-spirited But they're waiting on Me, blessed are those people There's some of you in the room right now, the Lord's speaking that He wants to realign you in a new zeal, a new determination To wait on the Lord actively And if that's you, or you just want to take a stand for it Or you want prayer for it, and you would like to come forward I want to invite you to come forward right now I want the singers, we're going to sing over you in just a moment Here we are, Lord Here we are, God, we are those that say we to emerge in them A new song, a new oil, a new whisper of the Spirit This is the way, walk ye in it, go right, go left, I am with you Holy Spirit, we ask You to release Your presence Right across this auditory presence now The Lord says, I will give you strength and quietness Not agitation, if you will wait upon Me The Lord says, it's time to get on areas of compromise With secondary issues in your life The drama of bitterness and how bad they're treating you How you're not getting what you want The Lord says, get on them I'm with you We want to be preoccupied with engaging with You What you say, I say, when you move, I move What you do, I do, where you move, I go What you say, I say, when you move, I move What you do, I do Blessed are those who wait upon Me Those preoccupied with Me My leadership, My storyline, My plan, My purpose Be preoccupied with Me Though there's joy for those who wait on the Lord Blessed are those who wait upon the Lord I will wait on You All the day I will wait on You In the house of the watchful and wise Strengthen our heart through engaging with You By waiting on You, by saying yes to Your plan Those who wait on You Never lose their strength Like the eagles, like the eagles go Even the young man gets tired Even the young man gets weary Even the young man faints But those who wait Will renew, renew their strength Strengthen our heart through engaging with You Give us in for Your house Give us in for Your will I will free you, I will deliver you from what's holding you back I will calm the storm in your heart Those whose minds are set on control With us in the storm You will lead us through the fiercest battle All else will wither But with the Lord above we shall come With us in the storm You will lead us through the fiercest battle You will lead us through the fiercest battle The fierce and great will make your voice to speak The earth it bows and all the mountains move into The sea Oh Lord you know the hearts of men Still you let us live Oh God who makes the mountains melt Come wrestle us in the wind Oh God who makes the mountains melt Come wrestle us in the wind Lord I'm lost you're with us With us in the fight With us as a champion With us in the storm You will lead us through the fiercest battle All else will wither But with the Lord above we shall come With us in the storm The fierce and great will make your voice to speak The earth it bows and all the mountains move into The sea Oh Lord you know the hearts of men Still you let us live Oh God who makes the mountains melt Come wrestle us in the wind Oh God who makes the mountains melt Come wrestle us in the wind Lord I'm lost you're with us With us in the fight With us as a champion With us in the storm You will lead us through the fiercest battle All else will wither But with the Lord above In our hearts right now Power Come and touch us We are, we come to you In boldness, in confidence Lord We'll be merciful and gracious to you For the Lord is very gracious at the sound of your voice When he hears it He will answer Isaiah 30 It's what the Lord said I am very gracious, I am very willing When I hear the sound of your voice I lift my voice to you Mike Bickle (1955 - ).
