Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher emphasizes the importance of encountering and having a revelation of Jesus. He highlights Jesus as the ultimate solution to all our needs and the source of living water. The response of believers should be to worship, praise, thank, and glorify Him, as well as live for Him. The preacher also discusses the concept of security in knowing that Jesus is the end and already present in our future. Additionally, he mentions the temporary nature of the earth and the importance of not getting too attached to the temporal. The sermon concludes with a call to turn from sin and come to Christ for salvation.
Sermon Transcription
I want to ask you to turn to Revelation chapter 21, please. Revelation chapter 21. This is a message that I feel the theme of it, the Lord really gripped my heart with a couple of days ago, and then early this morning it seemed like the Holy Spirit really just began to unfold this to me. The message is Christ the Omega, Christ the End. Christ the Omega, Christ the End. Revelation 21, and we'll begin reading in verse 1. Of course, this is the Apostle John, and this is what he saw by revelation of the Holy Spirit. Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words are true and faithful. And He said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my Son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Let's pray. Oh, Father, it's so serious to open up Your words of life. And once again, Father, we're so gripped with this awareness that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God or heaven, and flesh and blood cannot deliver Your words of life in such a way that You want us to hear them. So we cry out to You this morning, Father, to please anoint me with the Holy Spirit. I am in such need, Lord. And we are in need for You to anoint our ears to hear what You want to say to us. And Lord Jesus, we need to see You. We need to see You high and lifted up again. We need You, Lord Jesus, to fill our vision. We need You to capture our hearts. We need one encounter with You this morning, oh God. And we can never be the same. Would You do it for us, Lord? Would You, for Your namesake and for Your glory, come, Holy Spirit, and speak to our hearts. And I pray, God, for some reason You've burdened my heart that someone will hear this message online. They're going to hear this message. You're going to speak directly to them. And I pray, God, for them right now, those who will hear this Word, that You would speak to them and there would be sinners who are saved, sinners who pass from death to life at the preaching of Your Word. Thank You for this, oh Lord. And thank You for the body of Christ gathered here today. Thank You for Your bride. Thank You for my brothers and sisters. Do not pass a single one of us by, but speak directly, Father. Just as was shared earlier, You can speak one word and yet divide it rightly and speak a personal message to every one of us. Would You do that today, we pray. In Jesus' name, amen. Now, my text especially comes from verse 6. And He said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. At least three times in the book of Revelation alone, our Lord Jesus Christ says of Himself, I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the beginning and the end. In Revelation 1, verse 8, He says, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. There are three tenses of time mentioned there. God who is, who was, who is to come. The present, who is. The past, who was and who is to come. The future. But that's put there, brothers and sisters, not for God, but for us. With God, there is no was. God has no was. These tenses are put there for us, not for God. There are no tenses with God. He has no was. We have a was. God has no future to come. He's already there. We have a future to come. God doesn't move from one period of time to another period of time. God transcends time. Christ transcends time. He is the Alpha and the Omega. Probably many of you already know what that means, but maybe some don't. The Alpha and the Omega, those are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. In our language, we would say that Jesus Christ is the A and Jesus Christ is the Z. And just as you cannot find any word in any language that is a part or outside of the A and the Z of the alphabet of that language, in the same way, there is nothing that can be outside of Christ. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He's the beginning and the end. He's the beginning which means there's no one before Him. Even though this staggers the mind, it boggles our mind if you take time to think about it, that before time began, go back ten million years ago. Go back ten billion years ago. Go back trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions of years ago. And there is God. And He is exactly who He is today. He transcends time. He's before the beginning. Jesus Christ had no beginning. The Bible says in John 1, in the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. Without Him was not anything made that was made. In other words, Jesus Christ is not a created being. Jesus Christ was not created. He is creator. He created all things. He is before the beginning because He is the beginning. And He is the Omega. He is the end. That means there will be nobody after Him. So twice we read so far in Revelation 21, verse 6, He says, I am the Alpha and the Omega. Revelation 1, verse 8, I am the Alpha and the Omega. And then He says in Revelation 22, verse 12, And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to His work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Now, we've said this before, but it is enough for God to say something one time, isn't it? To get our attention. When He says something three times, we better especially tune our ear. Not that we shouldn't always especially tune our ear, but I want you to get the emphasis of this. What is it that Jesus Christ is wanting to say to you and I when He repeats over and over again, I am the Alpha and the Omega? We could spend a whole morning on just Jesus Christ being the Alpha, the beginning. We could spend a lifetime on that. We could spend a lifetime on Him being the Omega. But what the Holy Spirit has especially, I believe, put upon my heart this morning to share with you is that Jesus Christ is the Omega. He is the end. He is the end. Maybe you've heard that saying that goes like this. They say, well, all good things must come to an end. All good things must come to an end. That may be true in part. Some good things, as we know it, will finally come to an end. And we wonder, because we don't know the future, what is that going to be? What will be the end of my race? What will be the end of your race? What will the end be? How will we go out? What will the final end be of the Lord's church here? What is the future? All good things must come to an end. Let me tell you, brothers and sisters, something that is good and someone that is good that will never come to an end. Jesus Christ, our good Savior, our good God, our good Shepherd, will never, ever, ever have an end. He is the Omega. He is the Z. He is the last. He is the end. He cannot have any end because He is the end. You can't get around Him to find the end. He is the end. And your life and my life is hidden in here between A and Z. And everything that we know and everything that we see and everything that has been created is found between the A and the Z of Christ, the eternal God, the eternal King. Christ the Omega, Christ the end, will have no end. But you'll notice in our text this morning those things that do have an end, that which will come to an end and will pass away, and then we will also see that which will never have an end and will never pass away. First of all, notice with me what will come to an end. Verse 1, He says, Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth. Why a new heaven? Why a new earth? He tells us. Because the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. What does that mean? It came to an end. This earth as we know it has an end. It will come to an end. The heaven? What is He talking about? I saw a new heaven because the first heaven had passed away. He's talking about exactly what He says. The first heaven. The first heaven. The Bible talks about three heavens. The first heaven is this firmament. It's this blue sky in the daytime. It's this starry night sky in the nighttime. All of those stars at night, all of the planets, Jupiter and Mars and Saturn, planet Earth, all the galaxies, the Milky Way, every star that God calls and knows by name, the very sun itself, the very moon, will all have an end. It will one day be no more. It will pass away. Everything that you and I see, heaven and earth, will pass away. Jesus said heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. That heaven, the first heaven, will pass away. It will one day be no more. You know, sometimes it saddens me. Even this week, I was reading or got an email or something about the nuclear waste that's just being poured into the ocean from that tsunami that hit Japan. There's this leakage going into the ocean and they say there's nothing they can do about it. They don't know how to get it stopped. And a lot of this is hush-hush in the media, but millions upon millions of fish dead in the sea. It says here there will be no more sea. The sea has an end. Everything in the sea has an end. The earth has an end. The sky, the heavens, all that is in it has an end. And it saddens me when you see God's beautiful creation. But in the midst of that, the Lord reminds me, yes, this will come to an end. But I am making a new heaven and a new earth. Why is that so important for us to understand? Because it's important that you and I as Christians don't get too attached to the temporal, to that which is temporary. This earth has an end. And what will happen to it? Look up again in chapter 20. Verse 11. This is talking about the final judgment, the great white throne judgment. And he says, Then I saw a great white throne, and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, and there was found no place for them. In other words, on this final day of God's judgment, God will unleash His wrath, His anger, His justice. He will judge all sin and unrighteousness on the earth, and it will be such a sight that the very earth and heaven itself will pass away at the sight of God's face. It will pass away. It will be no more. This earth has an end. Hebrews chapter 6. We see this throughout Scripture. Hebrews chapter 6 and verse 7. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated receives blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and briars it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is what? To be burned. This earth has an end. It will be burned. It will pass away. All of the heavens. Now what will it be like? We turn to 2 Peter and look at chapter 3 of 2 Peter and verse 8. But beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promises. Some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat. Both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God because of which the heavens will be dissolved being on fire and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless, we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. The earth will have an end. The heavens will have an end. But Christ has no end. That's the good news. Christ has no end. 2 Corinthians chapter 4. If you're attached to this earth and you love the things of this world, that can be very disheartening. But he says in 2 Corinthians chapter 4 and verse 16, Therefore we do not lose heart even though our outward man is perishing. See, that's another thing that will come to an end. This body of ours, this outward man is perishing. It will one day come to an end. Yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. And that is why it's so important for us as Christians to live in light of eternity. To live with eternity stamped on our eyes. To be gripped with the things that will last forever. Psalm 102. I'm giving you a lot of Scripture because it's imperative that this is branded upon our heart before we go any further. Psalm 102 verse 25. Of old you laid the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish. They will come to an end. But you, God, will endure. Yes, they will all grow old like a garment. Like a cloak you will change them and they will be changed. But you are the same and your ways will have no end. The children of your servants will continue and their descendants will be established before you. Do you see it there, brothers and sisters? Again, the Lord is saying to us through His Word, by His Spirit, this earth has an end. These heavens have an end. All that you see is temporary. But here's something that will last forever. Christ the King. Here's something that will last forever. Verse 28. The children of your servants will continue. The souls of these little ones will continue forever. Every single one of us has a soul. That soul will know no end. It will last forever. And therefore, again, I say it's so essential that you and I live with our eyes upon Christ and the things that are of eternity. The earth and the heavens, seed time and harvest, all the seasons, places, planets, stars, moons, sun will pass away. But Christ the Omega, Christ the End, Christ the Ancient of Days will live forever. Now what else will come to an end? Look at verse 2 of our passage in Revelation 21. Or that which will not, rather, in verse 2. It says, Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Do you know what that is? That's the church of Jesus Christ. She will endure forever. She will know no end because she's married to the King who is Omega, who has no end. Do you see how serious it is when we deal with the church of Jesus Christ, when we're talking about the church of Jesus Christ? The bride of Jesus Christ? What Brother Jim shared with us the other night? The vision he had one night of this beautiful bride in a beautiful garment. And he said this man reaching out and putting his hands on her garment and dirtying it up, putting stains upon the garment. It's very serious how we talk about the bride of Christ, how we deal with the bride of Christ. The bride of Christ will have no end. She is eternal. Verse 3, And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. Those who belong to God will have no end. I'm going to come back to that later. But look at verse 4. What else will come to an end? And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There shall be no more death. Death has an end. There shall be no more sorrow. Sorrow has an end. There shall be no more crying. Crying has an end. There shall be no more pain. Pain has an end. For the former things have passed away. They have met their end. They have come to an end. First of all, I want you to see three things here. First of all, he mentions death. Death and all that causes it, that is associated with it, will come to an end. 1 Corinthians 15 Please turn there with me if you will. 1 Corinthians 15 and verse 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order, Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ at his coming. Then comes the end. When he delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when he puts an end to all rule and all authority and power, for he must reign till he has put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. Christ the omega, Christ the end, will put death to an end. Now we come down to verse 54. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your sting? O grave, O Hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Death will come to an end. Death will be swallowed up in victory. And we are headed for an eternal home in the heavens wherein righteousness dwells and where there will be no more death, no more sorrow, no more crying, no more pain, a place where we cannot die, where we as Christians will live forever and ever and ever and ever with the King of Kings, with the Alpha and the Omega. A place where we cannot die. You can plant a garden here on this earth, but it will soon and eventually die. You have loved ones on this earth that you cherish and love so much, but all of us one day will die. But those who are in Christ will spend all eternity in a place, a very real literal place where we cannot and will not ever, ever die. Nothing in heaven can die. There is no death in heaven. Death has been swallowed up in victory. Some people live as if Christ is a means to an end, that Christ is the means and heaven is the end. I want to shout loud and clear, no, Christ is not anybody's means to anybody's end. Christ is the end. He's not the means to the end called heaven. If Christ were not in heaven, heaven would be hell. Christ is our end. That's what I'm looking forward to. We've served Him all our lifetime by faith, but one day we will see His glorious face. We will see the eyes of the One that shed His blood for us. We will see the scars in His hands and His feet. We will listen to the voice of the One who says, I am the Alpha and the Omega. And we will live with Him in a place that will never, ever end. Where there is no death, because death has been conquered and swallowed up in victory. But what is the cause of death? Because that too has come to an end. In the text here in 1 Corinthians 15, not only does it say Jesus will put all His enemies under His feet, that He will put an end to this, that death is swallowed up in victory, but what is the cause of death? Verse 56, look at this. The sting of death, death will come to an end, but the sting of death is sin. That will also come to an end. Christ the Omega, Christ the End. When sin meets the End who is Christ, sin dies. Sin meets its end. Sin comes to an end. The sting of death is sin. But sin has its end in Christ. Jesus Christ puts an end to sin. He put an end to the punishment for my sin by taking it upon Himself. He put an end to the punishment for your sins by taking your sin upon Himself and dying on a cross on a hill called Calvary. He suffered, He bled, and He died for your sins and mine. That is the Gospel. Christ died for our sins. That punishment that you and I deserve was put to an end when Jesus Christ said from the cross, It is finished. And He died. He died to save you and I from sin. He died to put an end to the punishment that you and I deserve for our sins. That's why we sing, The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend. The agonies of Calvary. You the perfect Holy One crushed your Son who drank the bitter cup reserved for me. Your blood has washed away my sin. Jesus, thank you. The Father's wrath completely satisfied. Jesus, thank you. Once your enemy, now seated at your table. Jesus, thank you. Thank you for what? Putting an end to my sin. Dying in my place, receiving the punishment that I deserve so that I can rule and reign and spend eternity with you. Thank you, Jesus. And then listen to that last verse. By your perfect sacrifice I've been brought near. Your enemy, you've made your friend, pouring out the riches of your glorious grace, your mercy and your kindness, what? No, no end. Because Christ the Omega is Christ the end means He has no end. That also means all of His attributes have no end. The love and the kindness and the mercy of Christ know no end for the believer, for the child of God. And that's why the Bible says His mercy endures what? Forever. His kindness knows no end. His faithfulness is never ending. His love is everlasting. John 13, verse 1. Just before Jesus was going to go to the cross, that's the night in which He was betrayed, that He took a towel and He wrapped it around Him and He went to each of His disciples and He washed their feet. But before He did any of that, do you know what the Bible says? John 13, verse 1, listen. Now before the feast of the Passover when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. He loved us to the end. That is to say, Christ's love knows no end. Man's love and affection goes only so far. But God's love knows no end for His child. It goes beyond. Far beyond. And when you think you've reached the end of it, you go further still. Because just as Christ, you cannot get around the Z. Everything is in between the A and the Z. And that's why in heaven I am convinced that you and I will worship God and we will worship the King of kings and we will never get tired of it, we will never get bored of it, because the more you worship and praise Him and the greater revelation we have of all of His attributes, His mercy, His love, His kindness, His grace, His truth, all that He is, we can't reach the end. We can't plumb the depths. Every time those seraphim and cherubim go around the throne crying, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, they see another dimension of His holiness. They see another depth of His holiness. And they cannot come to the end of it. Our God transcends time, transcends everything. He is great. He's the great I Am. He's the Alpha and the Omega. So, His love knows no end. His attributes know no end. Christ the Omega is the end to the punishment for my sin. But listen to this. He's not only the end to the punishment for our sins, Christ is the end to the power and preeminence of sin in your life and mine. He is the end to that sin. You want your sin to come to an end? You want your addiction to finally come to an end? Meet Christ. Bring it to Christ. He is the end to all sin. How many of you have ever grieved over your sin? How many of you have ever groaned over your sin? How many of you have ever despaired over your sin? How many of you have ever cried, My sin, my sin, when will it end? When will I ever be free? When will I ever overcome? When will I ever get victory over this? My addiction, when will it end? Listen, my friend. Christ the Omega, Christ the end, is the end of your sin. He is the end of addiction. He is the end of divorce. He is the end of sin. He is the end of bitterness. He is the end of unforgiveness. He is the end of lust. He is the end of anger. He is the end of all sin. When sin comes into the presence of Jesus Christ, the Holy Son of God, sin dies. When sin is washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, sin dissipates. That's its end. Sin comes to an end. When you come to Christ, you don't need 10 steps, 20, to anything. One revelation of who He is. Simply coming to the cross. Nothing in my hands I bring. I come as a sinner, Lord. Have mercy upon me. Your sin dies. Your sin comes to an end and the power of your sin and the preeminence of your sin comes to an end right there. Right at the foot of Jesus. He's our answer. Ray said it last week. He's all we need. That's the answer. Christ is the answer. Christ is our answer. Sin loses its power in the light of God's Holy Word. It's washed away by His Holy Blood. It's the end to your sin. Meet with Jesus every day, every hour of the day, and the power of your sin will meet its end. Addiction will be broken. May the man hear that that called me at 3 o'clock this morning, crying out, miserable, hating himself, because this sin and addiction has him gripped. That's your answer. Jesus. Jesus only will put an end to sin. And because He puts an end to sin, sin shall not have dominion over you. What does Romans 6.14 say? For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace. So, if sin does have dominion over you or me, perhaps it's because we've not understood or believe something else that Jesus Christ puts an end to. What is it? Look at this verse. 1 Corinthians 15.56 The sting of death. Christ puts an end to death. The sting of death is sin. Christ puts an end to sin. The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is what? The law. You know what else Christ puts an end to? The law. Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. He's the end of the law. He's the end of the law. Maybe you don't know that verse. Look at Romans 10.4. See it with your own eyes. Something that will absolutely set you free. If sin has dominion over you, perhaps you have not understood this truth that Christ is the end of the law and that you're not under the law, but under grace. Romans 10.4 Read verse 3 with me first. Go back to verse 1. Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the... What? Of the... For righteousness to everyone who believes. Can we read it together? For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. He is the end of the law. Christ the Omega. The end of the law for everyone who believes. What does that mean? You and I need to understand the purpose of the law, brothers and sisters. The purpose of the law is to show us God's perfect standard of righteousness and then to lead us to Christ. To cause us to see our need, our desperate need for a Savior and to run to that mighty Savior, Jesus. Galatians 3 verse 24 and 25 Therefore the law was our tutor, that is our schoolmaster, to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Why does sin have dominion over us? Some of us? It's because we still think somehow deep down inside we can make ourselves acceptable to God. If we strive or try just a little bit harder, if we just do better to have a better week, then somehow God will be happy with us and He'll accept us. Striving. Trying to keep the law. And the Bible says by the works of the law no man will be justified. It's by grace. It's by the cross. It's coming to Christ who is the end of what? The law. What is the purpose of the law? Is the law bad? No, the law is good and perfect and righteous and holy. But what is the purpose of it? To bring you to Christ who is the end of the law. The law is like a mirror. You and I, when God found us, when He came to seek and to save that which was lost, He found us in a pit of sewage. A sewage called sin. Sin, perversion, filth. This is what you and I were born in. This is what you and I have done on purpose. We have all committed sin. We were born in sin. Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world came to seek and to save that which was lost. He found us. We're lifted up out of this sewage. Now look into the law. Look into the mirror of God's Word and what do you see? Filth. Sewage. So what do you do? Do you take the mirror, the law, the mirror called the law, and try to clean yourself up with it? No, the purpose of the mirror is to reflect your nature. You are undone. You are depraved. You'll never measure up. You have sinned against the holy God. What do you do? You look for the fountain. Where is the water that can wash this away? Where is the water that can cleanse me? Where is that living water? Where is that fountain filled with blood that we sang about? Drawn from Emmanuel's veins and sinners plunge beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains. The law can never save anyone. It cannot clean anybody up. No works of the flesh can do it. But Christ can and Christ will when through the law we see our depravity and we see our undoneness and we come running to His feet and we fall upon His mercy. He then becomes the end of the law for righteousness to those who believe. And His righteousness becomes our very own. The law, brothers and sisters, is like the bright sunlight that shines in your window early in the morning. And you ladies that want such a clean house, all of a sudden you thought you cleaned your house. And the sunlight shines in and there's dust on the coffee table and there's dust in the air and you see dirt everywhere. The law revealed it. But how many of you ladies look for the sunshine to clean your house? Can't do it. Won't do it. You look for the cleaning agents. Where is it at? The law showed me. The sunlight showed me. This is a dirty place. I've got to clean. That's the purpose of the law. Your tutor to drive you to Christ, to compel you to come to Him, to give up completely on yourself. The law of God demands perfection. And once you break it, you cannot repair it. If I had an egg up here and I stood up here and I dropped the egg, bam, it fell on the concrete floor, splattered everywhere. And then I demanded of you, someone come and fix this egg. Put it back together just like it was. The shell is shattered. The yolk is broken. The white of the egg is running everywhere. Somebody fix that! Make it just like it was. That's what it's like to try to get saved by the law. Try to repair what you've already broken. It's impossible. You cannot do it. You will not do it. None of us can. None of us ever will. And the Lord waits for you to fall the 10,000th time or the 100,000th time until you finally say, Can't. Impossible. I need a Savior. Do you remember when Michael stood in this pulpit in the old building at a communion table and over and over again said, this was the message, I will never forget it, I need a Savior. I need a mighty Savior. To that man will come the righteousness of Jesus. To that man will come an end to the law. An end to the law. Because Christ, He didn't come as someone to pretend or think or preach, well, yeah, the law, that was too high of a standard. Let me bring it back down a little bit. God didn't really mean what He said. Let's bring it down so you can attain it, people. Religious people. Self-righteous people. No. Christ came and He fulfilled the demands of the law which were perfection. Perfection. He fulfilled every jot and tittle, every letter of the law. He said, I came not to destroy the law, not to do away with it, but to fulfill it. And when you come to Christ and you put your faith in Him, you are hidden in Christ, dressed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before His throne, and all you can say is amazing grace. How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. Then your sin will come to an end. Then your addiction will come to an end. Then your self-righteous striving will come to an end. How cruel it is to say, try a little harder. You can be a Christian. Try a little harder. It's like saying to a man who has no legs, run faster. Come on. If you keep trying, you can run the marathon, though he has no legs. Keep striving. You can win that 50-yard dash. You can have an Olympic gold medal. It's a cruel thing. Come on, deaf man. Just try a little harder and you can hear. Come on, leper. Just do your best and take that leprosy away. The Bible equates that with the leopard trying to change its spots. The Ethiopian trying to change the color of his skin. The naked man trying to cover his nakedness with a spider's web. You try it. You fail. I try it. I fail. What is your answer? What is mine? Christ. The Omega. Christ. The end of the law for righteousness to all who believe. The end of death. The end of sin. The end of addiction. The end of the law is Christ. Hallelujah. What a Savior. What a Savior. One more I want to share with you that will surely come to an end. An enemy that Christ will put under His feet. If you look again in 1 Corinthians 15, see it? In the Word of God. Verse 24, Then comes the end when He, that is Jesus, delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and all power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. Who is this great enemy that is behind Islam, that is behind every persecutor of the church of Jesus Christ, killing Christians, torturing Christians? Who is this great enemy that is behind political leaders, rulers, princes, presidents, kings? It is Satan himself. And Satan, brothers and sisters, has an end. He has an end. Do you know why? Have you ever wondered why so many people say, have you read the book of Revelation? No, that's too hard for me to understand. Have you ever studied the book of Revelation? Too much in there I don't understand. And the devil has done his work to keep you out of the book of Revelation. Do you know why? No other book in the Bible describes the end of Satan in such detail as the book of the Revelation. No other book in the Bible gives us in detail the revelation of the Person of Jesus Christ. So if the devil can't keep somebody from reading it, then he tempts them to just get in it and try to find out future events and get in debates with other Christians and argue about this and that, when you've missed the whole picture, you've missed the whole meaning. What is it? First verse, the revelation of Jesus Christ. That's the purpose of the book. And once you see the revelation of Him, you're going to see the revelation of the Alpha and the Omega, the very One who brings Satan to his very end. The devil has an end. Satan has an end. And Jesus Christ will bring him to that end. This enemy, this murderer, this One who is behind the killing of babies, this liar, this accuser, this deceiver, this divider, the One who has certain rule over this world, just for a time, for a season, Christ will one day crush him under His feet and He will put an end to this great adversary of ours, the devil. Now what will it look like? Revelation chapter 20 and verse 1, Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old who is the devil and Satan, and he bound him for a thousand years. Then he cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal on him so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. You see the A and the Z has control, sovereign control over the devil. He says when the devil goes into prison, he says when the devil is released from prison, but watch his end, the end of our adversary. Verse 7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints in the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are, and they will be tormented day and night, forever and ever, and we could say forever and ever and ever and ever. That is the end of Satan. He meets the end, Christ the Omega, and he comes to his end, justice and wrath forever and ever and ever. Because Christ is the end and he has no end. And we said all of his attributes have no end. His grace, his love, his mercy, his faithfulness, but brothers and sisters, also his justice and his wrath have no end. They know no end. And it's in black and white. Hell is real. Hell is eternal. There is a lake of fire and not only will the devil be placed, thrown into this lake of fire and brimstone, and be tormented day and night, forever and ever. How long is that? A million years? Ten billion years? Trillions of years? Without end, Satan will be tormented because God's justice will be never ending. Satan will never come to a place of saying, well, I finally paid my penalty in hell, in the lake of fire and brimstone. Now I can get out. He has sinned against an eternal God and his punishment is eternal. But not only Satan, every one of his followers, and every sinner who has rejected Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and it doesn't matter who believes that anymore, it doesn't change the truth that hell is real. And I'm running into more and more so-called Christians that don't believe in a literal hell or believe, yes, there's a hell, but it's not everlasting fire, Brother Brian. God would never do that. That fire will finally come to an end. God's justice will be satisfied and that hell will come to an end. They don't know their Bibles. And it doesn't matter if the whole world doesn't believe anymore in a literal hell that is eternal. The Word of God says very clearly, there is a real hell. It is eternal. Let God be true. In every man a liar. There's a very real hell, brothers and sisters. And those of us who are saved, it ought to grip our hearts. It ought to do something on the inside of us that you and I will come across people every day who are headed for that eternal hell. There is no way out. There is no way out. And the punishment for their crime, where was God's justice satisfied? At the cross. Only in the perfect sacrifice of His Son was His justice and wrath finally satisfied for sin. But for those who reject Christ, His justice will never be satisfied apart from an eternal torment and punishment and an eternal lake of fire and brimstone which is hell. And everyone whose name was not found written in the Book of Life will be there. Is going there. The Bible says very clearly, Revelation chapter 20 and verse 12, And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God. And books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged. I mean, how much do you hear today? Don't judge me. He's judging me. She's judgmental. God now will judge. The dead were judged according to their works by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it. And death and hell gave up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. The same lake of fire that is everlasting fire that Satan is tormented in, day and night, forever and ever. So will every rejecter of Christ spend eternity. Now who are they? Chapter 21, verse 8, But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. The cowardly, those who were ashamed of Christ on the earth, too afraid. You see, someone who is not born again will not have the courage to stand and testify, I believe in Jesus. Be baptized in water. Give a testimony. Testify. Are you ashamed of Christ? The cowardly will find their place in the lake of fire. The unbelieving, those who simply would not believe the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the lake of fire, abominable, doing abomination, abominable things, sin, evil, rebellious crimes in the sight of a holy God. Murderers, are you? You have hatred in your heart for another? Jesus said hatred is the same as murder. Murderers, sexually immoral. Ah, I didn't think anybody ever saw that. God saw it. God is holding you accountable for it. The sexually immoral, the adulterer, the adulteress, the pervert, those who are living in hidden sin, the sexually immoral, the homosexuals, the pornographers in the lake of fire. Word of God. Sorcerers. Be involved in magic and horoscopes. You can laugh at me, but I won't even open a fortune cookie in a Chinese restaurant. Oh, it's just fun and games, Brother Brian. People look to that as if this is going to foretell my future. Sorcerers, sorcery in the lake of fire. Idolaters, loving, fearing, worshipping, putting anything before God. Idolaters shall have their part in the lake of fire. And all liars. You know who's summed up? Many of us could say that was me. That was me. That was me. Apart from Christ. But you came to Christ and you put your faith in Him and He washed your sins away. Some hearing the sound of my voice cannot say that right now. And I warn you in Jesus' name. I plead with you in Jesus' name. And God knows my heart breaks for you in Jesus' name. Your eternal destiny is a literal hell that you cannot get out of. That you will cry day and night, please, just one drop of water to cool my tongue. Quench this unquenchable thirst. Relieve this pain, this agony, this torment in these flames. And coming across your memory and your mind every time you heard the Gospel, every time you laughed at the things of God, every time you made light of the preaching of God's Word and the man, the woman who pleaded with you to come to Christ, every mother who begged God and was on her knees praying for you, you've spit in the face of God. And your eternal destiny is an eternal hell. That's no game. That's no laughing matter. That is life and death. That is truth. So we will all meet Christ the Omega, the End. Some as the Savior of your soul. Some as an eternal judge who will pour out His wrath and justice upon the unbeliever. I want to close with one final thing. Notice what He says here in our text, Revelation 21. Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words are true and faithful. And He said to me, It is done. It's finished. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. That's the only requirement in this text that we see. Being thirsty. Thirsty. To the thirsty, those who cry, God, have mercy upon me. Jesus, save me. To you who are thirsty, here is the end of your thirst. Christ the Omega, the end of your thirst. The satisfier to the thirsty soul. To everyone who's been looking for love in all the wrong places, here is the end of your thirst. Jesus, the Alpha and the Omega. Drink from Christ and never thirst again. Jesus Christ, the living water. His kingdom shall never end. His people shall never end. His love, it knows no end. And those who belong to Him will rule and reign with Him forever and ever and ever and ever and ever world without end. What should this do for us? What's the practical application? What's the last three points? You don't need it, brothers and sisters, if you can see the Jesus that I desire to preach to you. You don't need a formula. All you need is an encounter and revelation of Him. The end of everything. The end to all your needs. The great I Am. A great and mighty Savior. The living water. What is our response as believers? Worship Him. Praise Him. Thank Him. Glorify Him. Live for Him. Exalt Him. And what else should it do when I know that my Savior, my Savior, I'm saved. I'm saved in Him. And He is the end. Then even though I don't know exactly what my future holds, I know that my Savior is already there. He's the end. What should it do for you? Bring about a tremendous security. I am my Beloved's and my Beloved is mine. I am held in the hand of Him who is omnipotent. Above all power. Omniscient. He knows all things. Omnipresent. He's everywhere all the time. He's already in the future. He's already there. Nothing escapes Him. Nothing happens outside of His control. He is sovereign. He is supreme. It should bring about a security when I know Christ the Omega, Christ the End. When you have Jesus, you have all you need and more. Come to Him and drink today. That is my appeal. And that is my appeal for anyone here who is without Christ. Where are you going to spend eternity? Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord? Have you drank from this fountain of life, the living water? Is Christ your everything? Is He your all in all? Can you honestly say that? Have you been born again? And anyone hearing the sound of my voice, have you been saved? Have you been born again of the Spirit of God? It is this simple. You're in a dry, thirsty, barren desert. Your mouth is parched. You're dying of thirst. And there's someone up ahead that stands with an oasis of water in front of you. And He says, anyone who's thirsty, just come and drink. Christ. Anyone who is thirsty for a mighty Savior today who sees their need, come to Him and drink. That is a picture of faith. Drinking is simply receiving. By faith, Lord Jesus, I receive You as my Savior. I turn from my sin. Pity the person who will cling to their sin instead of to the Savior. You have a choice. You have a choice today. Turn from sin. Come to Christ. Will you stand with me, brothers and sisters and friends? If you need special prayer today, I want to invite you to stay after or come to the altar and pray. The most important part of hearing this message or any message that comes from the Word of God is responding to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you personally. And responding now, promptly, so that your heart doesn't grow hardened. Heavenly Father, we pray in the name of Jesus that You would take Your words of Spirit and words of life and brand them into our hearts this morning, O God. I pray, Lord Jesus, above all, that You would be magnified in our hearts and lives this morning that You, Lord Jesus, would be seen through the eyes of faith by everyone who is thirsty. Everyone who is thirsty. Everyone who sees their need for You. Everyone, Lord, who is at the place of giving up on themselves and trying harder and making so many empty promises. Let them come to You today. Let them forsake all, Lord, and forsake everything and to come to You today and to fall at Your feet and to worship You and to drink and to receive eternal life is my prayer. I pray for us as believers, those who You have saved by Your amazing grace, that we, O God, would love You more. Not motivated by law, but motivated by love. Love that constrains us. Love that compels us. Amazing grace that empowers us. May we live for You, Father, with all that is within us. May we hold nothing back. May we worship You rightly, Lord Jesus. May we see You more clearly as the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In Jesus' name, amen.
