Five Stones - Part 2
Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

Prabhupāda, number eighty-nine, bhajana-navāsi, I'll sing of the mercy of the Lord forever. In my mouth I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. Amāra jīva parameśvareś paritir bhacaṁ se haṁsa-bhārata-kare. Sali prema suge, am pe prāpta kare. Psalm eighty-nine, bhajana-navāsi, I'll sing of the mercy of the Lord forever. I'll make known thy faithfulness to all generations. Tārā karmalaku, nī viśvāśyatamu nā noti to telecesatanu. Mai yahowa ki sāri karuṇā ke vishaya gāta rahunga, mai teri sacchāi pīḍhi se pīḍhi tak jatāta rahunga. I'll make known thy faithfulness. Nī viśvāśyatamu nenu telecesatanu. Teri viśvās yugyata ko jatāta rahunga. To all generations. Tārā karmalaku, pīḍhi pīḍhi me. That means throughout eternity. Tārā ardhamu eva tente anantanga nichyatu kudā. Uska arkhe sanātana kālaka. Because whosoever God of grace does give us, he gives for eternity. Endukana ga kutagala devu, mana ke dhaiti istādu, adhi nichyatu kuraka istādu. Yauki anugrahaka parameśvara jo kuch hame detā hai, wo sada kāla ke liye detā hai. And he is in abundance. Adhi ivatame gākunda samruddhika ayan anugraha istādu. Arju, detā hai to bahutāyate. He is a God of oneness. And he goes on multiplying and not adding when he gives it. As you said, two by two means four. Three by three, nine. Four by four, sixteen. Five by five, twenty-five. Ten by ten, hundred. Ten by ten, multiply. So God multiplies our blessings. Far beyond our thinking. As he said that in Hebrews 6, 14. Saying, surely, blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. I will really bless you a lot and will keep on increasing your children. He says, I will multiply you. That means, he will shower his blessings in abundance in a far greater measure. And he will go on doing so throughout eternity. And that's why he, a Swami, says, I will make known thy faithfulness to all generations. That's why the composer of this bhajan says, I will make known thy faithfulness to all generations. It will never come to an end. That we have been seeing in the past days of the Holy Convocation, how our faithful God is longing and desirous and willing to give unto us such a blessing. That we have been seeing in the past days of the Holy Convocation, how our faithful God is longing and desirous and willing to give unto us such a blessing. And we do pray, surely, all of you may receive that blessing. And it will be our prayer that you all continue to receive this blessing. May you all. We require many Convocations to speak fully about the same subject. But what we cannot say, Lord Himself will show you the truth. But what we cannot say, Lord Himself will show you the truth. We have been trying to show you the life of David, how God does give us such a blessing. We have been trying to show you the life of David, how God does give us such a blessing. We saw last night in 1 Samuel chapter 17, 1 Samuel chapter 17, 1 Samuel chapter 17, and verse 40. And he took his staff in hand and chose five smooth stones out of the brook and put them in a shepherd's bag, which he had, even a string about the hand, and he drew near to the stick. And that's how he became so popular at that time. And that's how he became so popular at that time. There was a giant called Goliath. And everybody in the nation was trembling because of him. And everybody in the nation was trembling because of him. You see over here in verse 4, there went out a champion out of the camp of the first team, named Goliath, of Gath. And the height was six cubits and a span. That means about eleven and a half feet. That means about eleven and a half feet. Roughly as high as a pandal over here. And such a man appeared on the scene. What this is, Anger of the first team said, I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me a man that we may fight together. When Saul and Nazareth heard these words of the first team, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. Now having heard about that, David says, Who this uncircumcised first team? Defy the living God. Who this uncircumcised first team? Defy the living God. And he had come to him with only a shepherd's sling and five stones. And he had come to him with only a shepherd's sling and five stones. Now he slammed that stone. One stone sank deep in the fire. He must have gone with such a great speed. He must have gone with such a great speed. And he was so skillful. With the help of those five stones, he could face any animal, any wild beast, no jungle. With the help of those five stones, he could face any animal, any wild beast, no jungle. No fear when he came. Seven people saw him killing David. Seven people saw him killing David. They began to worship him as a hero. And they began to admire his qualification. That was sixteen. And that was eighteen. And that was eighteen. Cunning in play, a mighty valiant man, a man of war, good in matters, and a comedy person. And that's how he was known among the people everywhere. And that's how he was known among the people everywhere. Wonderful qualification. Now God's choice has fallen upon him. To make him his witness and servant. To make him his witness and servant. And use him as a vessel. By not using him because of human qualification. He had to be freed completely from these five stones. He had to be freed completely from these five stones. Same way you find God did that with Moses and Saul became Paul. In the same way God did it with Moses and Saul. In the same way God did it with Moses and Saul. See, what was Saul became Paul afterward. David had those wonderful qualifications to have Saul before he became Paul. David had those wonderful qualifications to have Saul before he became Paul. And now he is last, but he has only a dump. And now he is last, but he has only a dump. By the excellency and knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered lots of all things, to be crowned above a dump, I am in Christ. To be crowned above a dump. Now a dump is more stronger than a dump. Now a dump is more stronger than a dump. So Paul is saying, I will become a dump only. So Paul is saying, I will become a dump only. When David first came in the hand of God, When David first came in the hand of God, Why justly he could take pride in all these five stones? He could have said, He could have said, I am the man who has saved my nation. But Saul could not do, his army could not do, I have done it. But Saul could not do, his army could not do, I have done it. See how all people admire me. See how all people admire me. So God was saying to him, David, I have not chosen you because of these five stones. David, I have not chosen you because of these five stones. They are not going to help you in my service. They may help you in worldly service. Not in my service. So many people are trying to serve God these days with their human cleverness and qualification. So many people are trying to serve God these days with their human cleverness and qualification. So many people are gathering knowledge, acquiring things. Depending upon their degrees of some kind in Bible colleges for God's service. Depending upon their degrees of some kind in Bible colleges for God's service. Another qualification to draw people toward them. Another qualification to draw people toward them. But they learn after many years of failure, how they have to depend upon God alone for everything. But they learn after many years of failure, how they have to depend upon God alone for everything. We have to see how God was taking David to all these fearful experiences. We have to see how God was taking David to all these fearful experiences. And if he was taking him from his bag, shepherd bag, he is five to one by one. Mano Parmeshwar uske charvai ki thaili se, ek ek karke uske paanch patthar nikal raha tha. Took away one stone, put another one. Then took away second, put away second. Put away third, put away third one. Gave something better. Evi din kanti shrestha menavi. So whatever God takes away, He will take away, He may give you something better. He find a very same truth, clear, life of joy. Yogi akka, jeevitha ni manam parikshishthe, idhe sathya ni manam chudagalam. God took away all these children. Took away friends. Took away property. Took away cattle. His own wife turned against him. And all people came. But in the end, he got double than before. And all have to come to beg Him to pray for them. And that's how God works. He has a very big purpose of saving us. We have to see all these days. Those who never come in the beginning, for your sake, I am again repeating. You may follow all the full message. Saul tried to kill David three times. There David was running from place to place to find a shelter. Now what a life. A great hero, now finding a shelter in a cave. He is not a murderer. Handle anybody anyhow. He did not harm anyone. A very good man. And yet he is finding a shelter in a cave finally. Wherever he went, no shelter for him. He was his own friend and rest of them were afraid to give him shelter. His best friend Jonathan could not give him shelter. And Jonathan was Saul's son. He was a prince. Even he could not give him shelter. He even tried to find shelter in the house of God. Even there no shelter. Even far away from Jerusalem. Even there no shelter. So finally he came to cave called Adullam. Adullam means the rest he placed. And there he found true rest. But friends could not give him. And that time he found in the cave. Because their God became real to him. Because there he learned how to speak with God. Because there he learned how to speak with God. Because the high priest also came there to find shelter. Because the high priest also came there to find shelter. Because king Saul killed all the high priests. Because five high priests were killed at Saul's command. Because 85 high priests were killed at Saul's command. Because Amulet gave shelter to David for few hours. And they all were killed. So Amulet's son Amulet came for shelter to David. So Amulet's son Amulet came for shelter to David. In the old settlement period. If anybody had to find the will of God, they had to go to high priest. If anybody had to find the will of God, they had to go to high priest. For any matter, any problem. And that was the wonderful privilege given to the people to find God with the help of high priest. And that was the wonderful privilege given to the people to find God with the help of high priest. But in these days, the Lord Jesus Christ is our everlasting high priest. But in these days, the Lord Jesus Christ is our everlasting high priest. He does not come to leave us. Now we can speak with him like a friend to friend. Ask him any question. And search him for any matter. And seek his guidance for any problem. He can talk to you anytime, anywhere, any need. He can talk to you anytime, anywhere, any need. But the pity is, very few believers exercise that privilege these days. They don't know the value of finding and doing God's will. They don't know the value of finding and doing God's will. And that's why their lives are defeated and failure and barren.
