Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher emphasizes the importance of having a heart that is perfect toward God. He uses the story of Elijah and the captain of fifty to illustrate how God shows himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are perfect toward him. The preacher also references 1 John 3:20-22, where it is stated that if our hearts do not condemn us, we can have confidence toward God and receive answers to our prayers. The sermon concludes with a reminder that the eyes of the Lord are searching throughout the earth for those whose hearts are perfect toward him, and that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much.
Sermon Transcription
I'm going to pray again just once. Please, Lord, I pray that You will open our hearts and that Thy Word will be engrained in our hearts and that it will be changed by Thee. In Thy name, Amen. 2 Chronicles 16 verse 9 says, For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. To illustrate this, I'd like to read a short passage in 2 Kings 1 verse 10. And He said unto them, What man of man was he which came up to meet you and told you these words? And they answered him, He was a hairy man and good with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah, to spite. Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to meet them. And behold, he sat on the top of a hill and he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down. And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume thee and thy fifty. And they came down fire from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. Here we see God showing Himself strong in the behalf of a man whose heart was perfect toward Him. The apostle John also stressed this point in a staggering passage found in 1 John 3 verse 20 to 22. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we found confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him. For we keep His commandments and do those things which are pleasing in His sight. Here we see what God is looking for, to be able to honor and answer our prayer in a staggering way. The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the earth to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. In closing, I'd like to read two verses. James 5 verse 16b The sexual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 1 Peter 3 verse 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous and His ears are open unto their prayers. For the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. Thank you.
