Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher shares about a powerful experience during a February crusade. He mentions a Japanese brother named Golly who gave his whole life to Christ during the crusade. The preacher emphasizes the importance of surrendering everything to God and asks the congregation if God is truly king in their lives. He then shares a story about a young girl who was moved to tears and surrendered her life to God after being asked this question. The sermon ends with the preacher encouraging young people to look for signs of God's presence and to seek a personal relationship with Him.
Sermon Transcription
He was singing with that massive love that means so much to all of our hearts, I know. John, on the 16th chapter, we have been looking at the two pages of love as our desire to finish where we started off this morning. We looked at the Father's love for the Son, the Son's love for the Father, and the Son's love for you and for me. And we noticed that that was an individual love, it is a personal love, a love of the Father for the Son, love of the Son for the Father, and it's love for us individually. It is a personal love. Aren't you glad he loves you? I know you are. But, now with that before you, let us look at the Father's love for you and for me tonight. Chapter 16 of John, and the 27th verse. For the Father himself loveth you. Now let that two page just for a moment. The Father himself loveth you. And, as that dawns in upon you, as that grips you, you know the joy and the thrill of that lovely experience. Not just a text or scripture, but a living part of reality in your own heart. This Him who provides spirit life leads me. Near the hour of the morning, the Father himself loveth you. And the thrill of that never let me. The Father himself loveth you. Hearing that before you, go down to chapter 27, and verse number 23. I in them am now in thee, that they may be made perfect in one, that the world may know that thou hast set me, and hast loved them, notice this, as thou hast loved me. He said this morning that the son's love for us is just expression of the Father's love for him, in the very state, in measure, and in perfection. The very same love. The Lord emphasized this. He gave me a reading of that phrase. Hath loved them. That's the Father. Loving us. As it loves the Son. Oh, the mighty power of these words. Now go down to verse number 26. And I declared unto them thy name, and will declare it, that the love with which thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I in them. Now does that not do something to your heart? Recognize the very same love with the Father's love for the Son, is the love he's loving you with, and not loving me with. Because we are his own dear children. We sometimes speak these words and signals. So dear. Oh, dear I cannot be. For the very love with which he loves his Son, such is his love for me. So near, so very near. Oh, near I cannot be. In the first verse of his song. I am. And here it is. Now note that before you go through the first psalm, and the very third chapter. One psalm, and that's the Thistle, and the third chapter. Remember now we're dealing with the Father's love for us individually, and as a family. The Gospel of John is written that we might believe. And the Thistle is written that since we do believe, we might know that we have eternal life. Now this is here a family picture. I'd like you to remember that. As we read verse number one of John, verse John three. Aren't you glad tonight you are a child of God? Christ is in Christ Jesus. Says the Father, but aren't we all God's children? The beloved God is the creator of all mankind. He is the Father only of those who have believed on his Son. Ladies and gentlemen, verse number 26. Now are we the children of God? Christ is in Christ Jesus. John 1 verse number 12. But does none of you see him? The day that we found the legal right to become a child when we were not. To become the sons of God. Even though then we believed on his name. Now because we are his children. And his Spirit now is built on us. God says, remember, in Galatians 4 verse number 6. Because ye are sons, because ye are children, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your heart crying, Abba, Father. In the Spirit of the Son with David. They say, Abba, Father. Oh the one that glory to tonight. Abba, Father, we approach thee. In the Savior's precious name. We thy children here in family. Exit to thy present place. And now it says, Behold, what manner of love. Remember the Savior was clearly crying, What manner of child is this? They said, what manner of man is this? Now here we have, what manner of love is this? The Father is built upon us. That means that we are called the sons of God. We are the people of great dignity. We are the children of God. What an honor. What a privilege. What dignity is ours tonight. That we form the royal family. What an honor. Have royal blood surging through your veins. You're held in high esteem. Give appreciation. You're honored. You're lauded. You're praised. Because you belong to the royal family. So I put a great big crown for the royal family. All their failings and insignificance. You're not recognized. You're a child of the king of kings. And lord of lords. You are a child of God. Next as they have gleaned into your eyes. A spring in your step. A glow of your apartment. A radiance above your whole fairy. Why I'm a child of God. I send the truth from you tonight. And you're a child of God. My king. In Christ Jesus. Not only are we a people of dignity. The very same verse verse 1 John 3 says. Therefore the world knoweth not because of you him not. We are a people of distinction. Not only are we a people of dignity. The son of God. But we are a people of distinction. The world knoweth not because of you him not. Now listen I'll remind you of a statement. He's saying. The world knoweth not because of you him not. I'm no longer in the world. Now he says. The world knoweth them not. Because of you him not. And because this evening hour. We are identified with king. Having his own spirit. He's telling us. We are a marked people. We are a unique people. There's nobody like us. We are a people without a match. We are a dignified people. We are a distinct people. We are a people of distinction. You like to think that it's time for me. But it's perfectly true. That's what God's saying about you. That's what God's saying about me. We are a dignified people. We are a people of distinction. The world knoweth not because of you him not. When the unsaved person can understand you. You're coming home with your testimony. We are an enigma. We are an amazement. We are a wonder to the unbeliever. But going down to Father Darnton. And this time we're here at your conference. Here's someone saying. Why you must be off your rocker. You don't understand the joy. Nor the thrill. That's yours tonight. Because you've got the very treasured life of Jesus Christ in you. The very spirit of Christ indwelling you. All the reality of this. We are a people of distinction. I want to emphasize something here. Maybe an encouragement to you. It is just this. In one spirit says. We are a peculiar people. Obviously that's not right it is. That word peculiar doesn't mean an oddball or a square. No, no, no. It's got a beautiful meaning. A people beyond the ordinary. And a people for his own possession. And that's just what we are. We are a people beyond the ordinary. We are beyond the ordinary in our birth. We are born. Not of blood. Not of flesh. Not of the will of man. We are born of God. We are beyond the ordinary in our relationship. We are now the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. We are beyond the ordinary in our citizenship. Our scripture says. Heavens conferring all civilization for the Savior. We are beyond the ordinary in our companionship. Our companions were the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. And with all who out of a pure heart call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh beloved we are an extraordinary people. We are a people beyond the ordinary. Now please never lower that standard. Never let it come down to the level we all know is evil. Especially in your theology and in your language. Don't get the modern jargon of this world. You are beyond all that. You are a heavenly people. And you should have a heavenly language. Not the slang of this whole world. Oh my friend you are a distinct people. And remember there were no rather heroic words that Father and Jays confide. Their speech directly decried. And it's true. In our speech, in our demeanor, in our defiance. We are demarked as those who belong to the family of God. Isn't that precious? It really is I know. Tell me more. A people for his own possession. His own special treasure. The darling of his own heart. He says in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 19 and 20. What know ye not you are not to own your fault with a price. Never glorify God in your body and in your spirit with a God. Your fault with a price. Let Christ be known not silver nor gold. It's the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now it bothers us that he might possess us. And we are a people for his own possession. Having his purchase at a tremendous price. The precious blood of God's own dear Son. Years ago, a lot of years ago, in fact now. But as far as Peter, when he was quite young. He was living down near Birmingham, England at the time. And I recall from events of the crusade. And Peter's neck go with the death of his wife, the Lord. She said to him, to tell him some particular way. When she saw me going through my garden gate. Said to him, look Peter, she was coming up your garden path. When a wee fellow saw me. He got through the fence, came running down. I dropped my case and just waited for him. Looked up and said, my own data. My own data. These words, my own. And never left me. Never left me. The thrill and the joy of that young lad saying, my own data. And the Lord looked in his heart, dear child of God. And he said, my own special treasure. You are a people beyond the ordinary. My own special treasure. My own by creation. My own by redemption. My own by precious blood. My own by eternal covenant. When you see that you belong to him. Peter looked up and said, not a statement of a thought. Oh Jesus, Lord and Savior. I give myself to thee. For thou in an atonement didst give thyself to me. I own of a master. My heart shall be thy throne. My life, my gain, and hopefully. Oh Christ, for thee alone. Behold what man of love. The Father is called upon us. He shall be called the Son of God. The world knows it not because it knew him not. We are a people of dignity. And we are a people of distinction. May I ask you lovingly, are you tonight a child of God? Are you tonight born of God's Spirit? Do you know the joy of the Holy Spirit is dwelling in you? If not, why not this very night? What joy will be your joy if it's God? If you're recognizing there's an emptiness. There's something missing in that life of yours. That something is someone. That someone is the Holy Son of God. Good night, Santa. Very hard golden shades. Behold I, Santa's golden knock. If anyone hears my voice, open the door. I will come in. As he comes in, by his Spirit in your spirit mind. Let there be a born into the family of God. And you're a new creation altogether. And you're saved from your past triumphs. He's a new life. Oh how he's changed me. He's a new life. He'll be a new life. He's a big life. He's a wonderful life. He's a great life. All this life is bundled up in the Lord. Jesus Christ. Then we're a people of destiny. He will say in the very next verse. Behold, my beloved. Now are we the sons of God. And it does not interfere what we shall be. For we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him. For we shall see him as he is. Oh we are a people of destiny. We are the people of God. We are the children of God. And we've got a destiny. And our destiny says time. Isn't that wonderful? And you've got the feeling in your soul's heart. That you are a people, a person of destiny. You know your destiny. And you're going to be with him. And you're going to see him. And you're going to be like him. With all the countless ages of eternity. And you look up to God and say. Thank God, Jim. That is my destiny. I know with certainty in my own heart. That is my destiny. To be with him. In the presence of booms of joy. And there are pleasures for evermore. This can be your certainty tonight. I say God has no doubt with you. Say God does not fear doubting. He's the first salvation. You can know the gladness through the night. And same with your very heart. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine. Over the whole cave of glory divine. Here is salvation purchased of God. God of His Spirit. Walks with His blood. This is my story. This is my song. Praising my Savior. All the day long. Yours too, isn't it? I'm sure it is. Tell me more. Then we're a people of beauty. Verse number three. And every man hath a spoke set on him. Purify themselves even as he is pure. We're a people of destiny. And we're a people of purity. Those who have the spoke set on him kind. They shall purify themselves even as he is pure. This has a purifying influence in our lives. No one will tell me they're expecting Christ to come back at any moment. But not for the desire to live a holy life. It's a contradiction in terms. And no one will ever tell me they're expecting Christ to come back at any moment. But not with a passion for the souls of men and women. Recognizing that Christ comes at the very night. Their grace runs with flow through all their awful salvation. My praise. Those who have the spoke set on him. They purify themselves even as he is pure. Just like Bible characters go. We had a job getting the teenagers up there to wash. You haven't got that problem down there. God be honored. But you know, those teenagers, the job to get them to wash. This particular teenage boy, we saw him this day down the lane. And he's got a great big starry crotch and a spiral throat. And he's going to have a wonderful lather. We were quite convinced that he'd be converted. We were quite sure he'd be saved. See, you're not only cleansed within, you're cleansed without when you become a Christian. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. That's not in the Bible. It's a wonderful model, isn't it? It really is. Cleansed within and without. And you know that boy, he was ten minutes before the mirror. Trying to get his hair pounded properly. And so we were quite convinced. We were quite sure that boy had been saved. But you know what happened? Half an hour afterwards, a car came running onto campus. And when the car went on TV scale, they ran to his cabin to meet her. He was polishing up, because this young lady was coming. He's a lovely vegetarian. When we all polished up, smart and sharp, you know, the hair of the pig. Then she arrived. Beloved, our beloved is on the way. We all polished up. Everything's clean and proper. Remember, you're the child of God. He's twelve, not his thirty-first. This is an interesting picture. It happened three, four years ago. A young couple became engaged to be married. He said to her, dear, I'm going to Australia. I'm going to try and make good. I'll come back to you as soon as I possibly can. She wasn't too happy about his going away, because they'd just become engaged to be married. But she knew her future depended upon it, and so off he goes. He gets a job, and after some time, good letters are coming from England and from Australia every day. They're crossing each other somewhere across some of the oceans. But those little heartbeats of love are coming, and how they look for those letters every day coming. He looks down at the oceans. They love each other. Then with the money he takes with him from Britain, and the money's now earning there in Australia, he begins to build. He's getting a lot, and he begins to build. He goes on building, and building, and building, all in view of the day when his bride will be here with him, to share the toll. All the cover screens, all the drapes, all the furnishings, all in view of the homecoming of the bride, and all of what he felt she would like. Everything prepared for the coming of the bride. One day, she gets a cable, and arrives in Southampton on a certain note, a certain day. Now, everything that she's prepared gets coloured in view of that day. During the night, the green liners tint into the great harbour, the harbour there of Southampton. Hundreds upon hundreds of people down there on the harbour looking for the loved one, but there are few young people, heads with bridges, everybody else around. The young fellow looking over the sun, the door, where is she? The young fellow looking up, where can he be? She's looking for him, that crowd of people looking over the sun. All the suns, they see each other. John, John, I see you! Oh Mary, I see you, Mary! Oh, they clap, oh, the joy in each young heart. Why? Oh, there's just no home, no ground, whatever, that joy is just so real to them. Why? A joy! Why, it's Mary! And I was going along on this run from Oxford Bay in a gas station in Inverness some time ago, and the crowd were coming with me, and they could see the bull, and they could see the young fellow looking over the sky, and the young girl just thought to herself, Anthony, when will I play? A voice from the congregation said, He's jumped overboard. And I thought he meant he's drowned himself. Well, that wasn't at all. The man really meant, if he's just so excited to see her, he didn't make for the gangway to get down. Oh no, he got right over the top, he's drowned himself. So keen to be with her. But he didn't do that really. The gangway, he comes down the gangway, gets through past them, gets his way through the crowd, gets his way through the crowd, and when he's coming, they meet, they hug each other, they embrace each other, they look into each other's eyes, and all the excitement, all the joy, bubbling up in his young heart. Why? He kept his promise. He's come back for me. It's wonderful, it's wonderful. And oh, I'm so glad I was loyal to him. I'm so glad I was true to him. I'm so glad I didn't go to the ground with other boys when he was away. And now he's come back, and all the joy that fills my heart. Oh, beloved, beloved. Our beloved John was there to pay for us. He did that through going to Calvin School for us. The telegram's gone out. Behold, the bridegroom comes, throwing out the meeting. And you thought I'd eat his pie tonight, which he was a liar. Oh, I'll be lying just looking through his lovely eyes. His son, a very good boy, gave him praise today. And there's there a lot of sad but beautiful shame about you all on the altar. She didn't know that my son didn't hate the lie. Oh, I wonder did not eat you all on the altar. Every one hundred percent on the altar for Jesus Christ. Oh, remember he may come tonight. It is thirty-nine to first o'clock. Practically certain that he won't ever return. Oh, I wonder did not eat you all on the altar. He was to come, Lord Jesus. He was to come today. He was to come, Lord Jesus. Catch up thy bride away. Oh, how my heart is yearning, longing for thy returning. He was to come, Lord Jesus. He was to come today. My beloved, I'm wondering, are we searching around for the world? For the ways of the world, the politics of the world, the faith of the world, the religions of the world, the materialistic age we're living in. Throwing the hearts of many away from that great task for eternity. Oh, may we fear him each day to come. Get such a breath of revelation of our lovely Lord Jesus that we shall indeed be set of all else. And from a very heart cry, Lord, thou art enough. The mind and heart is ill. Earth takes my eyes so wholly more than me. Let the night be occupied. I am spared. None may see. Then your heart will sing out the night. He was to come, Lord Jesus. He was to come today. Why? Because you are a child of God. What manner of love is this? That Father be stood upon us. That Father loves you. He loves me. Now, isn't that precious? Let us hurry to another, shall we? Let us go back again to the Gospels by John. And at one here, I implore you to be a real blessing and encourage you to look at the Father's love for the Son, the Son's love for the Father, and the Son's love for us, and now the Father's love for us too. I love to have said it then, but I will not allow. Now, think of your love and my love for the Lord. The believer's love for God. We'll go back again to John 16, and verse number 27, the very same verse. He will say to you, for the Father himself loves you because he has loved me. Because he has loved me. Isn't that just precious? This is now our love and Father's love. I like it. Now, keeping that before you, please go back to John 14, and verse number 50. John 14, and verse number 50. If you love me, keep my commandments. Verse 21. He that has my commandments and keepeth them, he that loveth me, and he that loveth me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Jesus answered straight on to verse 23, If a man love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our own oath. And so that's it. Remember how the Father proved his love for the Son, and gave him all that he had. The Son proved his love for the Father in Christ Jesus. The Son proved his love for us by dying for us upon the cross. He loved me, and gave himself for me. The Father loved us. He proved his love by giving his Son. So God showed us the world. He gave His only begotten Son. He gave His only begotten Son. He loved for us, and He gave His only begotten Son. And now how are we going to prove our love for the Lord Jesus? By singing nice things about Him through love? Through captive choruses about love? We are going to prove our love by confidence. This is a new commandment I give unto you. It says in John 14 verse 15, If you love me, you will keep my commandment. And just for a moment, the verse number 12 of chapter 40 verse 15, This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another. We are going to deal with that just in one moment. But just think of the Lord and His majesty raised here tonight, and neither to us can we add one to the other. I remember years ago speaking at a large assembly well known to many here, after the breaking of bread, a man, one of the elders, came up and said, would you like to come home for lunch with us today? I said, thank you, and he said, I don't know, have you met my husband, who says, I'm never quite willing to do this counsel, but I'll let you in on this now, hi father then, I suggest, he said, I want to talk to my daughter, well, suggest, she's going with an unseen boy, and I want to talk to her, he said, I've got complete confidence, Uncle Jim Bartle, I'll talk to him about this. I could remember the man, not his daughter, his daughter was out teaching another Sunday school, but his lunchtime she'd been home, and I knew her immediately, I've got many happy memories of his well-vibrant days, and after lunch, he said, Uncle Jim, will you please come and talk with me, I'd like to have a chat with you about something, I'm going into a room, and there's a daddy talk to you about my association with this boy, and I suggest that I don't agree with your daddy, I say to him, I'm going to be nagging her, are you going to be getting after her, never nag a teenager, you'll get no fare with them, never nag them, never keep after them, love them, and by please taking my example, you'll win them, but never nag. She began to infer in her heartlessness, I'm not concerned for nothing about you and your boyfriend, I'm concerned about you and your relationship with Jesus Christ. I remember that day well, when he got away with his Bible, anger, food, milk, food, relief, taxis, I remember it well, when he came running back and said, I've surrendered my whole life to Jesus Christ, my all is on the altar for him, he means everything to me. This girl did her nurse training, went to a theological seminary, and now I walk down to a place, you remember the story of Ruth and Elinor, Elinor being my goddess cave, and as long as she was chained in the family, everything was wonderfully well, going wonderfully well, but one day she died, and those who knew that she died, Van Halen and Trillian of Tucson, went after Ruth and Orpah in a strange land, as they consciously thought to do. She said, my dear, when Eliminate was there, and he was in control, my goddess came, there was no desire to go after Ruth any more, and when the Lord is Lord in your life, there's no desire to go after that misconscious holy man of yours. The young girl turned around and stared at me and said, Uncle Jim, have you written any God in this family, any God living in this family, that I've been with this boy eight times, and he's never once has taken my hand, and never kissed me. I find higher morals and higher ethics in this boy than I do in some of the professors, including my wife, Matthew, my dear, because I'm with Ruth, and I said, I won't ask you a question. Is my god king in your life today? She is a young girl. I'm going to leave you one question, and I want you to answer not me, but to the Lord who asked you this question. Love is on me more than, love is on me more than. Within two minutes that girl was on her knees, a tear rolling down her face. She confessed her backsliding, confessed to come right back to him. Lord, I lay this young man upon the altar calling by his name. I lay this young man upon the altar, taken completely out of my life. I surrendered my all to Jesus. That was in the afternoon. Evening, the auditorium was packed. They brought chairs up from the basement, sitting all around the place. I did something I very seldom do in a gospel meeting. I've been a Catholic appeal, and I was the one that tried to see if the scribe was single-handedly, but he didn't walk the cross. I'm the one that came out and was a fine-looking young man. He said, can I talk to you personally? I said, yes. We went into the room together, and after a time, this young man came right through, but Jesus cried, what is your name? He told me. He said, do you know Stone Soul? Yes. He said, does she know you're here? Well, have you spoken to her this afternoon? No. She knows you're here, of course, because she's seen you walking down the aisle. That young woman was willing to do business with God. I lay it all upon the altar. I lay that young man upon the altar, and God gave him thanks for that night of conversion there. I converted man. In honor of God, he was honored. As he went up from the inquirer room, others were being dealt with another part of the building, but as he went up in the auditorium, that night in the inquirer room, the first man he met was the devil's father. He went up and said, sir, I've been saved now. Do you know what he said? I'll wait and see. I overheard it, and we'll talk with God. No, please. That young couple got together around the end of some long time. God gave his faith to each other. We don't think what God wants to be together. We love each other. Let's still be good friends. The young man's still not married. The girl's married, and their kids have gone even better. The late prime minister and the dad is extremely happy. He's got three children. Then back to schoolboys and parents. I'm quick to remember. If you love me, you'll keep my command. Has the Lord been talking to you about the legal sexism? If you love me, he'll be talking to you about remembering the Lord Jesus on the thirtieth of every week, not just once a month, but three months upon the thirtieth every week. He's lovingly praying. Has he been talking to you about going forth in the true prime ministry, going into all the world and preaching gospel? Has he been calling you, sir, to a district visitation where the Lord proclaims his wonderful name? He's saying to all of us tonight, I beseech you, therefore brethren, by the mercy of God, you present your body, a living sacrifice. Hold it, says one to God, which is your intelligence, your rational, your logical servant, in your spirit and worship. May I ask you lovingly, as I am curving now, I'm going to translate my message. May I ask you lovingly, are you willing tonight to prevail the conjunction, and have you presented your body as a Christian? Has there been a moment in your life when you've dealt and delivered your juncture to some tonight? Please do all of me, all of you. Will you try? If not, why not tonight? Loves thou me more than is there something coming in between, in between you from going all the way tonight? Why call you me Lord, Lord? And do not the same to others. Why call me as you live for your heart is carved from me. His love for us meant our life. He's all laid down upon that right hand. And he didn't let only me come tonight and hold hard to the right hand from the very heart, and cry with all of them spiritually. Love to amazing human kind who have my heart, How lovely thou art, come and abide in my heart, break every fettered eye-gaze that we see, then thou shalt ever be gracious to me. For the power of love is upon us, and love for the Father, and love for the Christians, for you and for me. The power of love is upon us, and our love, our love for the Father, is at rest now upon you. Amen. Then in fellowship with you, we will sleep in peace. I will walk by you somewhere. All is safe, we will do. All is sane, we will go. We will never be anxious. 541. You are long for sweet peace, and for faith to increase, and have earnestly, earnestly pray, but you cannot have rest, nor be perfectly blest, until all on the altar is laid. These are remarkable words. They gave this out one night, more than one night, in Honolulu during the January-February crusade. The rate was just tremendous. I got a note after I left. They had a testimony meeting. One of the elders had broken down during that crusade to give his whole life, along with others. This one, a dear Japanese brother called me, man. And he said he gave his testimony how he had come to see that Christ now lived in him, that Christ owned everything, that he belonged completely to the Lord Jesus, and how he had made his life. He said, I am going to sing it. And as he prayed, it broke down, and began to throb, and the whole place just melted, just melted, because they were willing to do business with God. Oh, what a weekend it would be around here, and talk with God, if only one here tonight come to recognize God's name, for Christ is literally living in them, and all are one. May God bless you all. May my heart be clean, and let you know, 541 k.o. in practice. Amen. Amen. Anyone who made it known that I was here, God bless you. Thanks for coming.
