Will you please turn to the book of Acts. I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will. Let's have a further word of prayer. Dear Lord, as we gather together before Thee, 亲爱的主,当我们聚集在祢的面前, we pray that Thy word will be living and operative in each of our lives. We believe that Thy word is life and spirit. And we trust Thy Holy Spirit to quicken Thy word to us. Bring us into the reality of Thy word. That Thou mayst be glorified. We ask in Thy precious name. Amen. This time we fellowship on the life of David. David's life is multi-colored. But we will just concentrate on one thing. And that is the witness of God concerning David's life. You know, whatever man may say of you is not dependable. But what God says about you, that's the truth. So we find that in the New Testament, In the book of Acts, chapter 13, 在司徒行赚第十三章, in verse twenty-two, 第二十二点, God bears witness to David. God said, 我寻得耶稀的儿子大卫, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will. That is God's comment on the life of David. We know that God is always looking for such a man. God created us for this very reason. That we may be those who are of his heart. And we shall do all his will. We mentioned yesterday afternoon, 昨天下午我们已经说过, that in a very sovereign way, 实在是在一个非常神圣的情形之下, God put David in a very difficult situation. But out of that difficult situation, 但是在一个困难的环境里面, God drew David to himself. So while David was shepherding the sheep in the wilderness, 当大卫在旷野看羊的时候, he was shut off from all people. Because he was neglected by his own father. And he was despised even by his brother. So there in the wilderness, he looked up to God. And he communed with God. He turned his heart to God. And as he communed with God, he began to realize God's heart. He knew that God's heart was like his. Because he longed to be with his father and with his brothers. He longed to be one with them. And yet he was rejected. So he began to think of God. Because God loved his chosen people. And yet his chosen people rejected. So David's heart is one with God's heart. He became a man at God's own heart. Brothers and sisters. We know that our heart is most important. The Bible says guard your heart above all things. For out of it are the issues of life. So far as our spiritual or moral being is concerned. Our heart is the very center of it. If we do not keep our heart. If there is something wrong with our heart. Then everything is wrong. Man looks upon outward appearance. But God looks upon the heart. We also mention that our heart. Even though it is so important. And yet our heart is so deceitful. Jeremiah says the heart is deceitful. And it is incurable. Now who knows it? Only God examines and proves our heart. So thank God. That we can bring our heart to God. And ask him to examine us. We need to pray the prayer of David. In Psalm 139 verse 23, 24. Search me oh Lord. And know my thought. See if there is any wicked way in me. Lead me in the life everlasting. Brothers and sisters. Because God puts all attention on our heart. So our attention should also be focused upon our heart. We need to daily pray the prayer of David. Examine my heart. Prove my thoughts. See if there is any idolatrous way in me. That lead me in the way everlasting. So may the Lord find in every one of us a man or a woman of God's heart. Not only we have a heart for God. Not only we love God with our whole heart. But our heart is one with God's heart. Our heart answers to God's heart. Whatever God loves, we love. Whatever God hates, we hate. Whatever God desires, we desire. And whatever God rejects, we reject. Our heart is one with God. And that is what God is looking in each one of us. Now we have already go over this yesterday afternoon. So this morning we will continue with the word of God. The word says, I have found David, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will. Is something within. It is invisible. Only God sees our heart. Our heart is within us. Nobody knows what our heart really is. But, when we begin to take action. Then through our action, you will find the condition of our heart is made known. So here you will find the word says, who shall do all my will. How do we know that David is a man of God's heart? We know because he did all God's will. So this morning we would like to enter into the... We know that David, when he was a fugitive. He thought about God. He thought about the condition of God among... You remember that when God let the children of Israel out of Egypt. He brought the children of Israel to him... And there he gave them the Ten Commandments. And he also told them that he wanted to dwell among... He asked them to build him... That he may dwell among... And not only that. Now after you enter into the... I will appoint one place in the Promised Land. Where I will put my name there. And to that one place. You will go to offer sacrifice and to worship God. The children of Israel will come many times a year. There to worship God in the place where God put his name there. But after the children of Israel and... You know in the very beginning. They stationed in Gilgal. And most likely because they just arrived there. And God hasn't revealed to them what that one place. Most likely the tabernacle was set up in Gilgal. It was stationed in Shiloh. That was during the days of... But you remember at the time of Eli. There was a battle between the Israelites and the Philistines. And the Ark of God was being captured by the Philistines. And so when the Ark came back from the Philistines. It did not return to Shiloh. It was hidden in the field in the house of Abinadi. During the time of Saul. You find evidently the tabernacle was moved to Nod. Because you remember when David fled from Saul. And he went to Nod. And there was... And then later on you find the tabernacle was moved to Gibeon. The tabernacle moved from one place. And furthermore you saw for hundreds of years. There was no definite place for the... The definite place where God was put. You find the children of Israel. They were not united. And nobody really knew where their place was. You find after David became king. You know what he did? If you turn to 2 Samuel chapter 5. First thing he did after he became king. He went to take Jerusalem. And under the Jebusites. And David went there. And made it the capital of the nation. And there the name of... Now how did David know that Jerusalem was the place of God's choice? For hundreds of years nobody knew. But because David is a man of... So evidently he received revelation from God. He knew that it was Jerusalem that God appointed. You know from the viewpoint of strategy. Jerusalem was not in a strategic sense. It was not on the thoroughfare of... From a human standpoint it was not fit to be a capital. Jerusalem was the place of God's choice. There God wanted to put his name there. And because God's name is in Jerusalem. So the children of Israel were all... And they would become one in God. That is the first thing that David did. In other words. He found a place where God's name was to be placed. And because of that name the children of Israel were gathered together under... Because this is... If we apply this... You remember our Lord Jesus when he was on earth. In Matthew chapter 18. He said where two or three are gathered together unto my name. There am I in the middle. In other words. You remember in the last day with his disciples. He told his disciples. I give my name to you. And if you pray in my name. My father will hear you. So you know the name of the Lord is very precious. When the Lord was with his disciples. Because he himself was present there. So he did not need to give his name to them. But when he was thinking of leaving them. He left them with his name. And then our Lord also said. When two or three are gathered together in my name. There am I in the middle. In other words. Where his name is. There is his presence. Now that is how precious is this name. What is the church? The church is the called out ones gathered together. Out of every nation. Every tribe. God. All of people. Allies. And these called out ones gathered together. Now that is the meaning of the word church. In the Greek is Ecclesia. Ecclesia means called out ones gathered together. But gathered together unto. We know that even in this world. You have all kinds of fraternities and clubs. You find that there will be people gathered together out. For a certain purpose. For a certain reason. So. The called out ones gathered together. Gathered together unto. Fraternities and all the clubs. It is gathered together. Unto the name of the Lord Jesus. Now why do we gather together? We gather together unto the name of our Lord Jesus. Now the name of the Lord Jesus is not just a nominal name. We just cannot say Lord, Lord. And we do not obey him. Because the name of the Lord is real. His name is living. When we gather together unto his name. You find that name is representing himself. To put it in another way. When we all gather together unto his name. We all gather together under his action. And we all gather together under his authority. His name is authority. So we all gather together under his authority. In other words. Every one of us will surrender ourselves to him. We allow him to be our head. Now what do you mean to be the head? We know that our head is where all the command comes. It is the command post. Every action in the body. Every action of the members of the body. Is controlled by the head. And every members of the body subject itself to the head. So the head controls the whole body. So brothers and sisters. What is the meaning of the church? The meaning of the church is where the name of the Lord is placed. The Lord's name is placed in the church. In other words. We who are the members of the body of Christ. We all submit ourselves under his command. We all submit ourselves to his authority. So his will may be done in and through us. And in doing that. The whole body is united. This is the will of God. Wherever God's people gather together. That they are gathered together under the name of the Lord. Our Lord put his name in us. And we are under the name of the Lord. It is only when we are whole. We find that we are united. You know the problem with Christianity today. You find God's people. Thank God there are many of God's people. And there are many people gather together as the church. But the problem is. Do we gather together under. Unfortunately in church history. You find that some people gather together under certain other. Instead of gather together under the name of the Lord Jesus. And because of this you find Christianity is divided. Some people gather together under the name of a great servant of God. For instance John Wesley. He was a great man of God. And then you find there is the Wesleyan church. They are gathered together under a certain name. And you find there are other Christians gathered together under certain teaching or system of doctrine. For instance John Calvin is a great man of God. He was greatly used by God during the reformation. And then you find people gather together under his teaching which is called the reformed teaching. And then you find there are some other people. They gather together under a certain Christian experience. For instance the Pentecostal church. So you find God's people are met together under different names. Instead of exclusively under the name of the Lord Jesus. And because of this God's people are divided. Just like the children of Israel. Before the name of God is put in Jerusalem. You find the people are divided. There is no uniting point to the children of Israel. And the same is true today. If we gather together anywhere. We gather together in the name of the Lord Jesus. We place ourselves under his authority alone. Because he is the head of all. There is no other head. And we all submit ourselves under the headship of Christ. Then you find not only the presence of the Lord. But also God's people. Can we see God's people are united in one. The spiritual principle is if we all put ourselves. You know we should not be like Peter at one time. You know he said Lord, Lord. And yet he said you never should. Now if you call him Lord. Then you should listen to him instead of telling him what to do. So let us not call the name of the Lord in the name of Jesus. Since we are called by his name. We submit ourselves under. Allow him to be our Lord. To be our head. And we all submit under his headship. There you find. You find David a man after God's own heart. He did God's will. First taking Jerusalem and have the name of God. Where the children of Israel will flow into it. And they become one. So may the Lord do the same thing among us. If we really. If we really all. Now this is God's heart. That we gather together. But this is only the first step in David's life as king. The second thing. That is recorded in 2 Samuel chapter 6. You know after he has taken Jerusalem. And put the name of the Lord there. Then he began to gather his people. And he shared his heart with his people. He said. The ark of God. Was hidden. In the fields of the wood. Let's bring the ark back. You know after the ark was captured by the Philistines. When it came back to the children of Israel. Instead of the whole nation. Make the ark the center. Because the ark in the old days. Is where the presence of God. You remember God commanded Moses to build a chest. And also the cover of the chest. You find it is pure gold. And there you'll find the two cherubim. And the Bible says. The glory of the Lord rests between the two cherubim. So here you'll find. The glory of the Lord sits upon this. So it was put in. But as we already know. The ark was divided. Was separated. And it was hidden. And during the time of Saul. He never inquired before the ark. He did not care. He did not really understand spiritual things. And he did not even inquire at the ark of God. And the whole nation of Israel forgot. But David was different. You remember. In Psalm 132. He said. God remembered me in my affliction. And when I was in my affliction. Or you can put it another way. I afflicted you. Because I'm thinking. I'm thinking. Nobody seemed to have any. Love for the ark. But David. He loved the ark. He loved. He afflicted himself. He said. I could not rest. Until I find. I cannot rest. Until God. Is rested. So immediately after he became king. When he had the opportunity. He consorted with his people. Let's bring the ark. Back. Into Jerusalem. Instead of being hidden somewhere else. It should be the center of the nation. God's presence. Should be our center. So he prepared a tent. In Zion. So that he can move the ark. Back into. That God will be the center. And you know the story. In the beginning. He didn't. Bring back the ark. According to God's will. He brought back the ark. According to the way of the Philistines. Now the Philistines. The Philistines did not know God's will. So they used their ingenuity. They sent back the ark. On an ox cart. Instead of the ark. Should be borne by the priest. So David. When he brought back the ark. In the first instance. He put the ark on the ox cart. And God was angry with that. Because God's way. God's will. Has to be done. It is God's will. For the ark. To return. To Jerusalem. But. God's way. Is not. Carried by ox. But by. So. In 2 Samuel chapter 6. You'll find. Something happened. And David was. Not only indignant. But he was fearful. So he let the ark. And then he heard. God bless that house. So the second time. He said. Well. We have to do it. In God's way. So the priest. Was sanctified. And they carried the ark. The presence of God. In the midst of God. And where his presence is. There is. Joy. There is. He. He. Love. You remember. Moses. When the children of Israel. Rebelled against God. By worshipping a golden cow. God said. I will not go now. With you. I will just send an angel. To lead you. But Moses. Pleaded before God. And in Exodus. Chapter 33. Moses said. God. If your presence. Do not go with us. We won't go. What makes us different. From the nations. Is your presence. If your presence. Is not there. Then we are no different. Than the other nations. We cannot go. So he pleaded with God. And God said. Okay. My presence will go with you. So you find that. Those who know. The heart of God. They love the presence. Of God. Because they know. The presence of God. Is everything to them. It is the presence of God. That makes them different. From all the rest of the nations. Brothers and sisters. The same principle applies today. Those who are men and women. Of God's heart. They love the presence. Of the Lord. Without God's presence. Everything is finished. You may have anything you like. You may have people. You may have activities. You may have organizations. You may have all kinds of things. But if the presence of the Lord. Is absent. You have nothing. So brothers and sisters. In our heart. There should be. A deep desire. For the presence. Of God. Not only in our individual life. In our individual life. The one thing that we need. Is his presence. Praise God. Our Lord. Before he left. He said. I will be with you. Till the end. Of the age. Thank God. He sent his Holy Spirit. To us. And his Holy Spirit. Dwells within us. You know. For everyone who believes. In the Lord Jesus. Not only he has forgiven our sins. Not only he has given us a new life. His own life. His divine life. But the Bible tells us. He also gives us. His own Holy Spirit. You remember our Lord. Before he left the disciples. The disciples were sorrowful. Because their master. Was going to leave them. They will be as orphans. So the Lord said. Do not be sorrowful. Because I go. I will ask the Father. And he will send you. Another comforter. And the Spirit of Truth. And he will be with you. He will be in you. And he will never leave you. Brothers and sisters. We who are the Lord. We have the Holy Spirit. Dwells within us. The Holy Spirit. The another comforter. He is with us. And he will never leave us. He is our teacher. He will teach us in all things. That we may abide in Christ. So far as God is concerned. His presence never leaves us. But so far as our experience. So far as our condition. Often times. We lost. We lose his presence. When we do not listen. To the still small voice. We do not listen to the voice. Of God within us. When we sing against him. When we allow the world. To occupy our heart. Brothers and sisters. We feel as if. He is not here. Have you experienced this? Is it your regular experience? If it is your regular experience. You are in a very very. Pitiful situation. Even though he is still with you. But you are not with him. And that is the reason why. You lose the sense of his presence. His presence. Is everything to us. Do not allow anything. To block. To hide. To cover. His presence with you. Repent. Return to him. That his presence. May be with you. Brothers and sisters. This is not only true individually. This is true corporately. There is no meaning. If we gather together. Going through the motion. Be religious. And we do not have his presence with us. Brothers and sisters. Seek. Above all. His presence. His presence. Is promise to us. But his presence. Is not automatic. Because. His presence. Will be conscious only. When we are. In right relationship. With God. So we need. To be very careful about this. That wherever we meet together. It is not just. Just a word. Because you promise us. Where two or three are gathered together. Unto my name. There am I in your name. Therefore we are more than two and three. And we are gathered together. Officially unto your name. Therefore you must be among us. Not separate. No. They need reality. We need to live. In spiritual reality. Where his presence is. Then there will be fullness of joy. And there will be life. Forevermore. So you find David. As a man at the God's heart. He did God's will. He brought the ark back into Jerusalem. And make. It the center. Of his will. But that is not all. Because David shall do. All God's will. And you know. If you read. I think in Chinese. You cannot see it. Because in Chinese. The singular and the plural. You need to add something to it. But in English. You can distinguish them. Who shall do. All. My. Will. We will say wills. But no. The bible says will. All. Includes many things. So we will say all my wills. Many wills. But no. All. And yet one will. Because this will. Is an all inclusive will. We call it. The eternal will of God. That is one will of God. It is all inclusive. But it is one will. And you will find. Every step that David took. Was in that will. First of all. He took Jerusalem. So the name of the Lord will be placed. Then the second step. In the same will. He brought the ark of God back to Jerusalem. And then you will find the third step. David. He lived in his palace. So one day he talked to Nathan. His prophet. He said I live. In the house of Cedar. And the ark of God. Is in a curtain. I couldn't do that. I want to make God. A permanent house. And Nathan said. Whatever you think. Go ahead. Because that's natural. You are a man of God's heart. And what you say. Is according to God's heart. And so you just go ahead. But God's word came to Nathan. And said you go back. And tell. David. And if you. Read carefully. What God said. That's in second Samuel. Second Samuel chapter seven. Because my eyesight is poor. But you read it later on. When God heard. What David said. God sent Nathan back to David. And you listen. God said. Did I ever. Ask anyone. To build me a house. God. Tabernacle. Travel with the children of Israel. Through the wilderness. And actor. Arrived. In Canaan. It is moved. From here. And there. God never asked anyone. For a permanent home. In other words. God never asked anyone. God's heart. Was to dwell permanently. Among his people. But he wouldn't ask for it. He wanted this to come out. From the hearts. Of his people. If you love me. You will build me a house. But God would never ask for it. And God waited. For hundreds of years. Nobody seemed. To have such heart. God wondered. As it will. With his people. He never entered into his rest. But here was a man. After God's heart. Wanted to build God a house. How this must touch. God's heart. You know when you read. The bible. You need to feel it. Even though God forbade. David to build a house. Because David shed too much blood. He was a man of war. But how God appreciated. David's heart. God said you cannot build it. Your son will do it. A man of peace. Will do it. But because you have such heart. To build me a house. But because you have such heart. I will first build you a house. You know you can never. Exceed God. God always exceeds us. And God said I will build you a house. Brothers and sisters. That is God. David was not allowed. By God to build a house. And David said well. If you do not want me to do it. Well. That's it. No. You find David. Prepare materials. For the house. Now if you read. First Chronicles. Chapter 22 and Chapter 29. I can only briefly mention it. David said in my affliction. I prepared gold and silver. And many things. And then in Chapter 29. He said. According to all my power. I prepare gold, silver and so on. And then he said. In my affection. For God's house. I give out on my own. The best gold and silver. Even though he was not allowed. To build a house. He prepared all the materials. That were needed for the house. Because he loved God. He loved God's house. He just cannot rest. He has to give God the best. This is a man at the God's heart. And because of this. Even though he was not allowed to build it. He was the one to whom God gave. God used his finger. To draw the best. To draw the blueprint. Brothers and sisters. When you apply it. To us today. Can we rest. If we do not give God. The best. Can we enjoy our life. And neglect. God's house. Do we have a love. For God's house. If you love God. You love God's house. The reason why. We do not seem. To have any love. For the house of God. Is because. Of our lack of love. For God. We were like the children of Israel. Even when they returned. From Babylonian captivity. They came back with one purpose. Of rebuilding the temple. And because of some opposition. Some difficulties. So they said this is not the time. So. Each one goes. To build their own house. They build their panel houses. In other words. They built beautiful houses. And left the house of God in ruin. Brothers. Spiritually speaking. Is this where we are. We pay all our attention. To build up our own house. And we neglect God's house. Are we preparing materials. For God's house. Of course the materials. Are not matters. Are not earthly. The materials are spiritual. Gold. The nature of God. Silver. The redemption of Christ. Precious stones. The work of the Holy Spirit. Do we allow. God to work in our lives. To produce. The character of Christ in us. And these are the materials. For the house of God. And are we preparing materials. And are we by the grace of God. Build his house. All for ourselves. And work together under. The headmaster. Our Lord Jesus. This is doing God's will. Brothers and sisters. Today we are too individualistic. We are too independent. We are too self-centered. We are not God-centered. We are not corporate minded. We need to think of the house of God. That is the church. The living church of God. How can we prepare material for it. How can we work together. To see that building finished. David. God said I found David. Brothers and sisters. Has God found you. Out of all the multitude. Has God found you. A man. A woman. Of God's house. Who shall do all his will. May God have mercy on us. Dear Lord Jesus. We do praise and thank you. For loving us so much. Not only saving us. But drawing us to thyself. That thou may fill us with thyself. That thou may build us together. Into a holy temple. A spiritual house. For thee to dwell. For we thank thee for thy precious will. By thy grace we want to offer ourselves to thee. May thy love constrain us. That we may love thee and love thy house. Love thy name. Love thy presence. And love thy house. May glory be unto thee. In the name of our Lord Jesus.

Stephen Kaung (1915 - 2022). Chinese-American Bible teacher, author, and translator born in Ningbo, China. Raised in a Methodist family with a minister father, he converted to Christianity at 15 in 1930, driven by a deep awareness of sin. In 1933, he met Watchman Nee, joining his indigenous Little Flock movement in Shanghai, and served as a co-worker until 1949. Fleeing Communist persecution, Kaung worked in Hong Kong and the Philippines before moving to the United States in 1952. Settling in Richmond, Virginia, he founded Christian Fellowship Publishers in 1971, translating and publishing Nee’s works, including The Normal Christian Life. Kaung authored books like The Splendor of His Ways and delivered thousands of sermons, focusing on Christ-centered living and the church’s spiritual purpose. Married with three children, he ministered globally into his 90s, speaking at conferences in Asia, Europe, and North America. His teachings, available at c-f-p.com, emphasize inner life over institutional religion. Kaung’s collaboration with Nee shaped modern Chinese Christianity.
