Sermon Summary
In this sermon, Basilia Schlink shares a personal experience she had in an office. She observed a young secretary whose alarm clock went off while she was wide awake and busy with work. The elderly lady explained that the alarm clock was a reminder for the secretary to not lose herself in her work and to remember the importance of working for eternity. This experience led Basilia to reflect on her own life and the significance of living and working in union with Jesus. She realized that only by doing things together with Jesus can our lives bear fruit in eternity.

Sermon Transcription
God lives and works today. He is calling us to come and live and work with Him. But what does that mean? Today's meditation, Together with Jesus, by Basilia Schlink, shares with us an experience which will give us an answer to this. Recently I experienced a very strange thing in an office. I was supposed to speak with an elderly lady who was dictating a letter to her young secretary. Suddenly the girl's alarm clock went off. But why an alarm clock? The secretary was wide awake and she had so much to do, there was certainly no danger that she would fall asleep. When she left the room for a moment, I asked the elderly lady why the alarm clock suddenly went off. She told me the secret. This young girl's greatest desire was not to lose herself in her work. She wanted to work for eternity. The ringing of her alarm clock was a reminder. The hours are flying by. Think of eternity. Work for eternity. Do everything with Jesus. Yes, eternity is a reality. Therefore there is one question for us which is very important. Will I find everything that I now do as fruit in eternity? Or am I simply living one day after another, one as empty as the next, in spite of all my work? Will I one day have to confirm that my life amounted to nothing? That it was completely in vain because it was not lived together with and for our Lord Jesus? One day the reality of this pierced my heart. I knew Jesus and belonged to Him, but suddenly I saw that I did not live in real fellowship with Him. Only what I do together with Jesus brings eternal fruit. Yes, I had only one question to consider. Will there be anything left of all my activity here on earth? Thus I put an end to my former way of life. From then on I tried to live my life in union with Jesus. I tried to keep my heart and my thoughts always near Him so that my life could bring forth fruit in eternity. I wanted to take Him into all of my life and work for He alone is the one most worthy of love. I found that doing things together with Jesus, my Savior, my Beloved, made me happier than anything else possibly could. Because He is love and all-powerful, He can solve all my difficulties. He alone gives me true meaning and purpose in my life. Since this time love for Jesus has compelled me to do everything for and with Him. Gladly for Thee, dear Lord, what Thou dost ask I'll give, and never rest until how Thou dost bid I live Thy holy will fulfill. Gladly for Thee, dear Lord, whatever cost may be, no sacrifice too great, heart, will, all I give Thee, the planning of my future.
