Stephen Kaung

Stephen Kaung (1915 - 2022). Chinese-American Bible teacher, author, and translator born in Ningbo, China. Raised in a Methodist family with a minister father, he converted to Christianity at 15 in 1930, driven by a deep awareness of sin. In 1933, he met Watchman Nee, joining his indigenous Little Flock movement in Shanghai, and served as a co-worker until 1949. Fleeing Communist persecution, Kaung worked in Hong Kong and the Philippines before moving to the United States in 1952. Settling in Richmond, Virginia, he founded Christian Fellowship Publishers in 1971, translating and publishing Nee’s works, including The Normal Christian Life. Kaung authored books like The Splendor of His Ways and delivered thousands of sermons, focusing on Christ-centered living and the church’s spiritual purpose. Married with three children, he ministered globally into his 90s, speaking at conferences in Asia, Europe, and North America. His teachings, available at c-f-p.com, emphasize inner life over institutional religion. Kaung’s collaboration with Nee shaped modern Chinese Christianity.

In our heart and mind, Lord Jesus does not have much position, as other things outside of Lord Jesus have their position in us. But in the heart of God, what is the position of Jesus? If you read the word of God, you see the position of Jesus in the heart of God is unique. Put it the other way, in the heart of God, only Lord Jesus has a position. And then you ask, what about my position? Is there my position in the heart of God? Brother, your position is in the position of Lord Jesus. Outside the position of Lord Jesus before God, you have no position. In the heart of God, He says, this is my Beloved Son, in whom I am pleased. You hear Him. In the heart of God, in the Colossians chapter 1 verse 19, all the fullness of the Deity of God is deposited in Jesus, so that He can have first position in all things. In the first chapter of Ephesians, time will come, and God will summarize all things above the heaven and under the earth and on earth, will all summarize in Christ. What is the Church? The Church is the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Therefore you see in the heart of God, in the will of God, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, has unique positions. But, in our heart, what a position does Lord Jesus have? And this is a great problem for us today. You see in the Church of Corinth, why they have division among them? Some say, I belong to Paul. Some say, I belong to Paul. Why? Because in their hearts, Paul has higher position than Christ. Apollo has higher position than Jesus. Stephen has higher position than Jesus. So Paul said, did I, Paul, die for you? Did you baptize in the name of Paul? Can Christ be divided? Dear brothers and sisters, why there is such division in the believers in Corinth? Because they have not seen clearly the position of Lord Jesus. Paul, or Apollo, or Stephen, what did Paul say? We all belong to you. You belong to the Lord. The Lord belongs to God. Why in the Corinthian Church, they have sins among them? The sins that not even seen in the world. And after that occurrence, the Corinthian Church thought themselves to be very gracious, that they could tolerate the sins. Brothers and sisters, why? Because they have not seen the position of the Lord. Why in the Church of Corinth, the brother would accuse the other brother? Even to the Gentiles. Because they have not seen the position of the Lord Jesus. Why among them? They use their gifts to boast of themselves. Because they have not seen the position of Lord Jesus. And the same with the Colossian Church. The Colossian Church has not seen the position of Jesus. Therefore they see that Jesus is not sufficient. And there is position outside Jesus, like philosophy, or mystics, they have position. Brothers and sisters, we see the same difficulties among the saints of Hebrew saints. Because in their mind, the position of Lord Jesus is not enough. And that's why they want to go back to Him. As there are things in the Judaism that can satisfy them. Dear brothers and sisters, today among us, in your heart, what after all is the position of Lord Jesus? If in you there is the position of Him that destined by God, you shall see that outside of Him there is no other position. Therefore we need to see this before God. In the book of Hebrews, there is one word that appears again and again. And in Chinese it is better. More. We know that this word means a comparison. We say this is better than that. And this is higher than that. And this word is comparative. But when the Bible uses this word, it is not the meaning of comparison. And that this is actually incomparable. But because we are men, and if you do not compare, it seems that we cannot comprehend this incomparable quality. But our Lord Jesus is incomparable. But because of our weakness, God can only... He has to somehow compare the Lord with other things. That by comparison we can have some impression. But even it is a comparison, that God really is telling us that His Son cannot be compared with Him. Do you know the story of the transfiguration of the mountain? Our brother has been talking about this. When the Lord transfigured a mountain, His glory shone forth. Immediately you see two people. Moses and Elijah. Moses represents the law, represents the prophets. And they were conversing in the glory of the Lord. And what were they talking about? And they were talking about the exodus of the Lord. And thirty years ago the Lord Jesus came to this earth. We are becoming flesh. And He is going to exit from the earth and back to His Father. So Moses and Elijah came to converse with our Lord about His exodus. And how He is going to leave this world. While they are speaking, because the glory of these three disciples, they fell asleep. And sometimes I am confused. I thought if I were in that glory, how could I fall asleep? Even if I have the problem of not being able to fall asleep, I will not fall asleep. But these three disciples fell asleep. Then I know, the glory was so great. This is something our flesh cannot stand. So in that glory, you fall asleep. And about the end of their conversation, suddenly they woke up. And Peter saw this majestic scene. He did not know what to say. And he is afraid, if he did not speak, then the scene would be over. So he blunted out something. He said, Lord, it is so good to be here. Do not leave. And let us dwell here forever. And let us set up three booths. One for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah. And we just sleep here under the sky. As long as we can be here, that is good. But dear brothers and sisters, before he finished, you know Peter is a long winded. And before he finished, but the heavenly father interrupted. Shut up. You should not speak. Because this is my beloved son. In whom I am sleeping, you hear him. You should not speak. You should listen. And because Peter said so, it is unique. You cannot put Moses and Elijah at the same level. Our God is a jealous God. Anytime we put any man, and any matter, any thing at the same level as our Lord, then God immediately will interrupt. And God does not allow this to happen. Because our Lord Jesus is unique in the heart of God. Also in our heart, God also wants Lord Jesus to be all and in all. And this is the eternal will of God. Therefore here, he uses this word better. In fact, he is using comparison to bring in this incomparable quality. And let us look at some of these betters. First is in chapter 1 verse 2. God having spoken in many parts and many ways formerly to the fathers and the prophets, at the end of these days has spoken to us in the person of the Son. Here we see that Lord Jesus is the Son. He is more perfect than the prophets. He is more complete than the prophets. Our Lord Jesus is more complete than all the prophets. Prophets have a very important position in the economy of God. And God tells us his will to the prophets. So the Bible says, the prophets do not prophesy according to themselves. But holy men, by the moving of the Holy Spirit, speak the word of God. So you see, prophets have a great position in the Bible. But prophets have to be used by God to reveal things in many parts and many ways. In other words, God has to use many prophets. Because one prophet cannot express God. God has to use many prophets to express his will to us. And also he used various ways to express his will to us. So you see what God shows us through the prophets are segmented. And a point here, a point there. They are not complete. But in the end of his days, God sent his Son. When his Son comes to speak for God. And we can also say that God today speaks in his Son to man. So Jesus said, nobody has ever seen God before. Only the only begotten Son in the bosom of God, he declared him. Because our Lord Jesus is the Son. He was one with God. Now when he speaks, it is the Father who speaks. And that is the word, he is the word of God. So we see that our Lord Jesus is the Son. He is more complete than the prophets in reality. All the prophets prophesy pointing to him. The prophets do not point to themselves to prophesy. You see how great I am. No. The prophets prophesy pointing to Lord Jesus. So therefore Lord Jesus said to his disciples. And after he was resurrected. And he said to his disciples. He explained, revealed from the book of Moses, the word of the prophets and the hymns. So he is the one who is indicated by all the prophets. Who is the false prophet? A false prophet, he does not declare Christ. And he just indicates himself. Then you know that this is a false prophet. The true prophets point men to Christ. You know among the prophets, none is greater than John the Baptist. And what did John the Baptist say? I am the one who opened the way for the Lord. I am the voice in the wilderness. I will pass away. But the one who comes after me is greater than I. He shall increase. I shall decrease. This is the true prophet. Dear brothers and sisters. Therefore you see here. Our Lord Jesus is more complete than the prophets. And he is greater than the prophets. But today. We have a difficulty. Because at that time among the Hebrew believers, there was the same difficulty. They esteemed prophets more than the son of God. They chose the prophets more than they chose the son of God. As the believers in Carl. They chose Paul more than they chose the Lord. Because Paul is greater than the Lord. Paul is greater than the Lord. The position of Paul in them is greater than the position of the Lord. Dear brothers and sisters. Today in Christianity. But don't we see the same situation? Because we have not seen the position of the Lord. If we do see the position of the Lord. Then we will see all the prophets, all the apostles. They point to him to prophesy. So let all the prophets go. Let the son of God stay throughout forever. Brothers and sisters. How much position does prophet have in you? If you truly know the prophecy of a prophet. You know the The prophecy If the Lord Jesus is not greater than us. But because of the prophets of those that make the Lord Jesus smaller. The Christ has a greater position. And he decreases. Our Lord is greater and more complete than the prophets. What he speaks is the last word. He cannot add anything above what he said. The second. Here we see that the name our Lord Jesus has is more honorable than that of angels. We know that the Jews, they really honor the angels. Today we do not have much feel for the angels. But among the Jews the position of angels is very high. We know that even when Moses was proclaiming the law. According to Galatians chapter 3. The law is given to us through the hand of the angel. Therefore we see that angel has a high position among men. And according to creation. The angels have one position higher than men. Not only they were created earlier. And they were created in the previous world. And also they were the spirit. And the angels are higher than men. But. The bible tells us. Our Lord Jesus is more honorable than the angels. To which angel the God would tell him that I have born you today. And I am your father and you are my son. And the firstborn of God come to this earth. The bible says that all the angels worship him. The angels are ministries of spirit. And they are servants of God. So when the firm comes. All the angels have to worship him. His kingdom is endless. Our Lord Jesus. You know the first rebellion in this universe. Is a chief archangel that God created. And he did not stay in his position. He wanted to steal the position of the Lord. He said I will exalt myself to be equal with God. And who can be equal with God? Only the friend of God is equal with God. And he did not just take it. But here is an archangel. He was so proud. He wanted to exalt himself. The result. And he was thrown out from the heavens. He turned himself into Satan the devil. The position of the son of God. Is far above all the angels. Good brothers and sisters. Even today. You see that men exalt angels. More than they exalt Lord Jesus. For example. Did not you see the Mormons? They were on the top of the church. There was an image. And that image they say is an archangel. And they say that this archangel gave the Mormon Bible to men. So you see that even in the so called Christianity. There is at least one denomination which exalted archangel more than our Lord. Because Satan can disguise himself as a bright angel. To stealth. The Catholic stealth. And you would say we are not the Mormons. But brothers and sisters. Often times. We seek the mysterious things. And we sometimes think that this very remote, very mysterious. Are more majestic. And the Bible says this is the mystery of the devil. And so we know something. That others do not know. Brothers and sisters. And this also tempted to astray. So the angels are supposed to serve those men who are sick. And let us in our hearts see the position of Lord Jesus. You say that you would never worship an angel. Do not be so sure. Because when you read the revelation. Even John. Apostle John. When God through the angel revealed the mystery of God. Revelation chapter 19. And the angels proclaimed that the bride is adorned. Ready. And the marriage of the lamb is to happen. And when John heard this. What did he do? He fell down and worshipped this angel. And I am the co-servant as the prophet and God's other children. Worship God. So you know that it would be enough for John to be confused only once. But chapter 22 John was confused again. Because God has shown John the glory of new Jerusalem through the angel. And God has renewed all things. And John could not contain himself. He fell down again to worship the angel. And the angel says don't do this. We are co-servants. Worship God. Dear brothers and sisters. And do not because the angels have given you good news. And even if this news is accurate. You have to remember he is nothing but a servant. He gives you this message so that you worship God. One day. The whole world will worship angel. Because Satan is an angel. Only those who do not have a seal on their hands. And they were kept by God. So you have to see. Today our Lord is more honorable than the angels. So to prevent us from worshipping the angels. We can only worship our Lord. Number three. When we come to the third chapter. We see that our Lord Jesus is worthy of greater glory than Moses. Moses was the greatest leader in the eyes of the Jews. You remember the Jews told our Lord Jesus. That we are the disciples of Moses. And we follow Moses. And we learn from him. Indeed. Moses was raised by God to be a great leader. And he was faithful in the household of God. But he is only a servant. Our Lord Jesus is the son. And he is the builder of the house. And he is the owner of the house. He rules over his house. And which one is greater? Moses was a type. And he was a type of faithful servant. But he refused to come. Refers to our Lord Jesus. But regrettably. At that time there were those who honor Moses. More than they honor our Lord. Although they have believed in the Lord. They want to go back to Moses. They want to go back to law. Brothers and sisters. What's our situation today? We thank God. And over the generations. He has raised many spiritual leaders. But brothers and sisters. They are only servants. Paul said I planted. An Apollo water. Only God gives the growth. Paul counted nothing. Apollo counted nothing. Only the Lord is all and all. But today. We all have. Men all have a desire to worship leaders. And we say. Dear brothers and sisters. Let's remember. They are only servants. And how we hope that they can be faithful in the house of God. But the builder of the church is Lord Jesus himself. The Lord says I shall build my church on this rock. The gates of heaven cannot prevail over it. Our Lord Jesus is the son. He rules over the house of God. Dear brothers and sisters. We are the house of God. If we can keep the confession. And our boast of that time. Until the end. Then we are his house. So the position of Lord Jesus. Is greater than Moses. Today is the position of Lord Jesus in you. Greater than any leader. Do you see with your eyes. A leader or Lord Jesus. Do you follow Lord Jesus. Or you follow a leader. We thank and praise God. Our Lord Jesus is the son. He is worthy of greater glory than Moses. Number four. Here it tells us that our Lord Jesus is the great high priest. His ministry as a high priest. Is greater than the ministry of Aaron. Is more complete than the ministry of Aaron. Perfect. Here we see that the ministry of Lord Jesus as a high priest. Is more perfect than the ministry of Aaron. The order of Aaron. Is according to the rule of flesh. And the order of Aaron. Is the one that is set by God. Man is set by God. The man according to the order of Aaron. Are weak. And therefore he has. And he has to offer sacrifice. For his own sins. And the sins of others. And also he will die. So other people will have to continue after him. And this ministry of high priest. Is never perfect. They cannot really bring man before God. And the sacrifice they offer. And especially in the day of atonement. The high priest enter into the Holy of Holies. With blood. They enter into the veil. He is sprinkling the blood on the ark. And atone for the sins. Of those people. But the Bible tells us. And that atonement. Is not perfect. So every year. They have to do it again. Because the blood of bull or goat. Cannot cleanse the sins of man. They can only cover the sins of man. So it seems every year. They have to do this again. It is not perfect. But our Lord Jesus. He is the high priest. After the order of Melchizedek. That order is higher than the order of Aaron. And he continues to be high priest. Forever. He once and for all. For our sins he offers himself. And he becomes the source of atonement forever. Because he offers himself once. So we can be sanctified forever. Dear brothers and sisters. Our Lord Jesus. The ministry of high priest. Is far above the ministry of the order of Aaron. His position is higher. But some of the believers in the Jews. They want to go back to Judaism. As the position of Lord Jesus. The high priest is not adequate. And they want the descendants of Aaron. To be their high priest. And they enter through the Holy Spirit. And they want to complete through the flesh. Today the same with us. Dear brothers and sisters. Isn't it enough for our Lord Jesus to be our high priest? We do not need any mediation. We do not need any person to stand in between us and God. And through Lord Jesus we can come before God. And he will save us to the uttermost. Are you hoping that there is somebody like a high priest like Aaron to help you? So that you can draw near to God? You do not have to. Lord Jesus is your high priest. He should have a unique position in your heart. For the matter of time. I only have three minutes. Here we see. The covenant our Lord Jesus has established using his blood is more excellent. The old covenant is the law. You have to do. But because of the weakness of man. We cannot do it. So we are all condemned. But the new covenant is grace. It is all done by God. He has done it all. All we have to do is to believe. To receive. And that is ours. And he is going to cleanse our sins. And remember our transgressions no more. And nobody will mean to you. And you shall know the Lord. And this knowing is knowing from externally. But what did the new covenant say? From the smallest, littlest to the highest. And he shall know the Lord from inside. Because there is an anointing in you. In all things he will teach you. Not only that. The law of God is now written in your heart. The Holy Spirit is the law of God. It is not the thousands of letters. It is not the ten sentences. There is only one. The law of the spirit of life. The law of the spirit of life. In us. It gives us the strength to overcome the law of death. And sin. The better covenant. Also. And a better country. We have a country. This is established by our God. We all will go back to that country. Who doesn't want to go back to home? Our home is that New Jerusalem. God has prepared for us. Our Lord is building. Dear brothers and sisters. Isn't it our Lord is more beautiful? Isn't it that he should have all position in our hearts? May he who has so much position in the heart of God has the same position in our small heart. Let's bow down and pray. Our Lord we worship you. Because you are unique in the heart of the Father. Beside you nothing can compare with you. All is in you. Our God. We confess that in us and outside of our Lord we have many other things. As if they have taken your position. Oh our God. Jealous God. May you stir up jealousy in our hearts. Cast out anything outside of your son. May your son be supreme in all things. Have supremacy in the church. Have supremacy in the heart of everyone. So that your kingdom can come. Your glory is full of the surf. In the name of Lord Jesus. Amen.

Stephen Kaung (1915 - 2022). Chinese-American Bible teacher, author, and translator born in Ningbo, China. Raised in a Methodist family with a minister father, he converted to Christianity at 15 in 1930, driven by a deep awareness of sin. In 1933, he met Watchman Nee, joining his indigenous Little Flock movement in Shanghai, and served as a co-worker until 1949. Fleeing Communist persecution, Kaung worked in Hong Kong and the Philippines before moving to the United States in 1952. Settling in Richmond, Virginia, he founded Christian Fellowship Publishers in 1971, translating and publishing Nee’s works, including The Normal Christian Life. Kaung authored books like The Splendor of His Ways and delivered thousands of sermons, focusing on Christ-centered living and the church’s spiritual purpose. Married with three children, he ministered globally into his 90s, speaking at conferences in Asia, Europe, and North America. His teachings, available at c-f-p.com, emphasize inner life over institutional religion. Kaung’s collaboration with Nee shaped modern Chinese Christianity.
