From The Eastern Mountains

Godfrey Thring
Verse 1
From the eastern mountains, pressing on, they come,
Verse 2
Wise men in their wisdom, to His humble home;
Verse 3
Stirred by deep devotion, hasting from afar,
Verse 4
Ever journeying onward, guided by a star. Refrain Light of life that shineth ere the worlds began,
Verse 5
Draw Thou near, and lighten every heart of man. There their Lord and Savior meek and lowly lay,
Verse 6
Wondrous Light that led them onward on their way,
Verse 7
Ever now to lighten nations from afar,
Verse 8
As they journey homeward by that guiding star. Refrain Thou Who in a manger once hast lowly lain,
Verse 9
Who dost now in glory oer all kingdoms reign,
Verse 10
Gather in the heathen who in lands afar
Verse 11
Neer have seen the brightness of Thy guiding star. Refrain Gather in the outcasts, all whove gone astray,
Verse 12
Throw Thy radiance oer them, guide them on their way.
Verse 13
Those who never knew Thee, those whove wandered far,
Verse 14
Guide them by the brightness of Thy guiding star. Refrain Onward through the darkness of the lonely night,
Verse 15
Shining still before them with Thy kindly light.
Verse 16
Guide them, Jew and Gentile, homeward from afar,
Verse 17
Young and old together, by Thy guiding Star. Refrain Until every nation, whether bond or free,
Verse 18
Neath Thy starlit banner, Jesus, follows Thee.
Verse 19
Oer the distant mountains to that heavenly home,
Verse 20
Where nor sin nor sorrow evermore shall come. Refrain
