Saints,
We are glad to announce a new section of SermonIndex: The Early Church Fathers Writings, a series of 117 volumes gathering the writings of the early Church in plain English. Every volume is free to read online and free to download.
You will find it here: https://www.sermonindex.net/churchfathers/
The series runs in order of date, from the Didache, Clement, Ignatius and Justin Martyr in the first century to John of Damascus in the eighth. Along the way it includes Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, Cyprian, Eusebius, Athanasius, Basil, the Gregories, Chrysostom, Jerome, Augustine, Cyril of Alexandria, Gregory the Great and Bede. It also holds the early liturgies and church orders, the Syriac, Armenian, Coptic and Ethiopic writers, the Fathers on the Antichrist, and the apocryphal writings. In all there are 889 works and about 28.7 million words.
Each volume has a table of contents, introductions to the works, numbered sections so that any passage can be found and cited, and Scripture references. The books are available to read online, and to download as PDF, EPUB and plain text. Each volume also has its own page with a cover, so it is easy to pick up where you left off.
A few things to know. The older translations are in the public domain. The modern English versions, the introductions and the notes were prepared for SermonIndex with the help of artificial intelligence, and are shared under a Creative Commons licence, so you may copy and share them if you give credit. Some of the older texts were read by machine from scanned books and have not all been proofread, so a few misreadings may remain. The Fathers did not all agree, and neither do the volumes try to hide it.
If you find an error, please write to us so that we can correct it. We pray that these writings will help you know the faith the first Christians held, and the Lord they gave their lives for.
