On Bible: Criticism of

“If you hear a man rail at the Bible, you can usually conclude that he never reads it.” (197.258)

“It argues a high excess of impiety, when a man shall say that that which came from God is foolish.” (407.477)

“Can you believe that your Maker sat down to write an unimportant book, or that the Holy Ghost inspired men of old to write that which, if not nonsense, is certainly of no importance whatever?
