Thomas Scott's Explanatory Notes on the Bible
Thomas Scott (1747–1821) was an English Anglican clergyman whose spiritual journey from rationalism to evangelical faith — influenced by John Newton — is told in his autobiography The Force of Truth. His Explanatory Notes on the Bible, published in weekly parts between 1788 and 1792, combine doctrinal and practical commentary and were enormously popular, selling over 100,000 copies. Scott's commentary influenced many later writers, including John Henry Newman.
