Jeremiah 35

Jeremiah 35:1

The Lord tells Jeremiah to bring the Rechabites to the house of the Lord and give them wine to drink.

Jeremiah 35:5

On the basis of a command that had been given to their family many years before, the Rechabites refuse the wine that Jeremiah gives to them.

Jeremiah 35:13

God draws this sharp contrast between the Rechabites who faithfully obey the commands of their earthly father and the children of Judah who have failed to hearken to the commands of their loving heavenly Father. In the remainder of the chapter He goes on to pronounce judgment on the people of Judah and blessing upon the Rechabites. Chapter 36 reveals the attitude which Jehoiakim had toward the Word of God and the messages God sent to him through His prophet, Jeremiah.
