Psalms 117:1

Psalm 117: The Gentiles Glorify GodIn this shortest chapter of the Bible, the Gentiles are called to praise the LORD . . . for His merciful kindness and enduring truth. The Apostle Paul grasped its significance and quoted verse 1 in Rom_15:11 to show that the Gentile nations share with Israel in the mercy of the Messiah. He came not only to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs but also that “the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy.” The stately paraphrase gives us the message of the Psalm in lines of unusual beauty: From all that dwell below the skies, Let the Creator’s praise arise; Let the Redeemer’s name be sung Through every land, by every tongue. Eternal are Thy mercies, Lord; Eternal truth attends Thy word; Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore, Till suns shall rise and set no more. Isaac Watts
