Jeremiah 33:1

E. The Covenant Recognized (Chap. 33)33:1-16 While . . . Jeremiah . . . was still in the court of the prison, the Lord gave further glowing promises of restoration to Israel and Judahthe land will be repopulated with joyful people; the mountains will be enriched with flocks; and, best of all, the Messiah, “A Branch of righteousness” descended from David, will come. Jerusalem . . . will be called THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jehovah gives His name to restored Israel, just as a man does to his bride and just as Christ does to the church (1Co_12:12). 33:17-26 God’s promise concerning the perpetuation of the Davidic dynasty and the Levitical priesthood would be as unbreakable as God’s covenant of day and night. Some of the people were accusing God of forsaking His two housesIsrael and Judah, and were thus despising the Jews as being cast-offs, a non-people. The Lord replies that His covenant with His people is as fixed as the laws of nature. The descendants of David would be as innumerable as the host of heaven and the sand of the sea.
