Isaiah 20
BBCIsaiah 20:1
20:1-6 In 711 B.C., the Tartan, or commander-in-chief of Sargon the king of Assyria, conquered the Philistine city of Ashdod. At the same time the LORD told Isaiah to walk naked (scantily cladnot completely naked) and barefoot as a sign and a wonder of the three-year humiliation that would come to Egypt and Ethiopia when conquered by Assyria. Then the people of Judah would see the folly of trusting Egypt for protection against Assyria. (Some commentators suggest that verses 5 and 6 refer to the Philistines or to both Judah and the Philistines, that is, the whole land of Palestine.)
