By day in a Pillar of a cloud] The Pillar of a cloud by day, and of fire by night, may seem to be two Pillars, Exod. XIII. 21. 22. Nehem. IX. 12, 19. Num. XIV. 14. Or rather seeme to be one Pillar, Exod. XIV. 19, 20, 24. Spread as a cloud by day, to cover them from heat; and gathered up into a Pillar of fire by night, to guide them.
