ten degrees] This choise was given to Hezekiah about mid-day, when the shadow of the Sunne might go forward or backward ten degrees on the Dial of Ahaz, a famous Dial, haply mural, and haply visible to Hezekiah out of his bed-chamber: and so likewise in all other Dials, distinguished into half hours, as that of Ahaz was. And so ten degrees make five hours. And the Miracle was not only in the Shadow going backward, but in the Sunne also going backward ten degrees: though whether in an instant, or in the set course of time, or its ordinary continual motion, is not certaine, Esay XXXVIII. 8.
