Satan Tempts Jesus In The Wilderness (Luke 4:1-13) (Matthew 4:1-11) (Mark 1:12-13)
1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness2for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry.3And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”4And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.’”5And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.6And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.7“Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.”8Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THELORD YOURGOD AND SERVEHIM ONLY.’”9And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here;
10for it is written, ‘HE WILL COMMANDHIS ANGELS CONCERNINGYOU TO GUARDYOU,11and,‘ONtheirHANDS THEY WILL BEARYOU UP, SO THATYOU WILL NOT STRIKEYOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’”12And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘YOU SHALL NOTPUT THELORD YOURGOD TO THE TEST.’”13When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.
1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.2And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.3And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE,BUT ON EVERY WORDTHAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OFGOD.’”5Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,6and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,‘HE WILL COMMANDHIS ANGELS CONCERNINGYOU’; and ‘ONtheirHANDS THEY WILL BEARYOU UP, SO THATYOU WILL NOT STRIKEYOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’7Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THELORD YOURGOD TO THE TEST.’”8Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;9and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.”10Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’”11Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came andbeganto minister to Him.
12Immediately the Spirit impelled Himtogoout into the wilderness.13And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.
