Below is the first chapter of the book of Genesis in Hebrew. The name "Genesis" comes from the Greek name for this book and means "origins." The Hebrew name for this book is "Bereshiyt." The Hebrew names for the first five books of the Bible is derived from the first word (or first principle word) of the book. In this case, the first word in the book is "bereshiyt" and means "in the beginning." The purpose of this section is to allow you to practice reading.
