Payson Awakened by the Death of a beloved Brother In the early part of 1804, the death of his brother was the means of fixing his attention on religion more fully for the rest of his life. In a letter to his mother he writes : " Infatuated by the pleasures and amusements this place affords, I gradually grew cold and indifferent to religion. From this careless frame nothing but a shock like that I have received could have roused me. I hope, by the assistance of divine grace, this dispensation will prove of eternal benefit. ,,
