from, (merachaka,) he hath uncovered the nakedness ofhis brother, they shall be childless. But keep you all My statutes and all Myjudgments, and do them, that the land into which I bring you to dwell may notcast you out. You shall not walk in the laws of the peoples whom I drive awayfrom before you; for they have committed all these things, and My Word hathabhorred them. But I have said to you, Ye shall inherit this land, and I willgive it to you to possess it, a land producing milk and honey. I am the Lordyour God who have separated you from the peoples. And you shall makedistinction between animals clean and unclean, and between fowls unclean andclean, and not make your souls abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any thingthat creepeth on the ground which I have separated (as to be) unto you unclean. And you shall be holy before Me; for I the Lord am holy, and I have separatedyou from the nations to be worshippers before Me. A man or a woman with whomare impostures or divinations shall be verily put to death; with stones theyshall be stoned, they are guilty of death.

EMOR.

XXI. AND the Lord spake with Mosheh, saying: Speak unto the priests, the sons of Aharon, and say to them: Let no onebe defiled among his people on account of the dead: yet for his kin, who isnigh to him, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for hisdaughter, and for his brother, and for his sister, a virgin who is near to him,who hath no husband, for her he may be defiled. But a chief among his people(the high priest) shall not defile himself, to make himself profane. They shallnot make baldness on their heads, nor cut away the hair of their beards, norscarify their flesh with marks. They shall be holy before their God, and shallnot profane the Name of their God; for they offer the oblations of the Lordtheir God, and they shall be holy. They shall not take to wife a woman who is aharlot, or one who is corrupted, nor may they take a woman who hath been putaway from her husband; for (the priest is to be) holy before his God. Thoushalt consecrate him, for he is to offer the oblation of thy God: he shall besacred to thee; for I the Lord, who sanctify you, am Holy. And if the daughterof a man who is a priest profane herself by becoming an harlot, she hathprofaned the sanctity of her father; she shall be burned with fire. And the (high) priestwho hath been consecrated from his brethren, upon whose head hath been pouredthe oil of consecration, and who, at the offering of his oblation, is arrayedwith the (holy) robes, shall not make bare his head, nor rend his garments. Norshall he enter unto any dead body, nor defile himself for his father or hismother. And he shall not go out from the sanctuary nor defile the sanctuary ofhis God; for the crown of the[9] <l > anointing oil of his God is upon him.I am the Lord. And he shall take a wife in her virginity; a widow, or adivorced person, or a corrupt harlot, these he shall not take; but a virginfrom his people shall he take for a wife. And his offspring he shall notprofane among his people; for I the Lord do sanctify him. And the Lord spake with Mosheh, saying: Speak with Aharon, saying: A man of the generations of thy sons whohath any blemish on him shall not approach to offer the oblation of his God.For no man in whom is a blemish may come nigh; a blind man, or lame, or flat nosed,or disproportioned;[10] <l > or a man who hath a broken foot, ora broken hand, or who is crookbacked, or dwarfish[11] <l >, or whohath a white spot in his eye,[12] <l > or the scurvy, or ringworm, or whohath ruptured testicles. No man of the offspring of Aharon the priest who hatha blemish may approach to offer the oblations of the Lord; having a blemish inhim he shall not draw near to present the oblation of his God: yet of the sanctifiedoblations of his God, even of the most holy, he may eat: only he shall notenter within the veil, nor approach the altar, because he hath a blemish; thathe profane not My sanctuary; for I am the Lord who sanctify them. And Moshehspake with Aharon, and with his sons, and with all the sons of Israel.

XXII. And the Lordspake with Mosheh, saying: Speak with Aharon and with his sons, and let themkeep separate from[13] <l > the consecrated things of thechildren of Israel, that they profane not the Name of My Holiness which they(are to) sanctify before Me: I am the Lord. Say to them, Any man of all thesons of your generations who shall touch the hallowed things which the childrenof Israel consecrate before the Lord, having his uncleanness upon him, that manshall perish before Me: I am the Lord. Any man of Aharon’s offspring who hathleprosy or an unclean effusion shall not eat of the consecrated things until hebe clean; and whosoever toucheth any unclean animal, or a man whose seed goethfrom him, or a man who toucheth any reptile that maketh him unclean, or a manwho maketh him unclean by any of his uncleanness, the man who toucheth himshall be unclean until the evening, and may not eat of things consecratedunless he wash his flesh with water. But when the sun hath gone down, and heshall have purified himself, he may afterward eat of the hallowed things, forit is his food. A carcase which hath been torn he may not eat, to defilehimself therewith: I am the Lord. But let them keep the keeping of My word, lest they bring guilt upon themselves, and die for it, because they haveprofaned it, I am the Lord who sanctify them. No stranger shall eat of thatwhich is consecrated, neither a sojourner with a priest, or a hireling, may eatof the consecrated thing. But if the priest buy a person with a purchase of hismoney, he may eat of it, and he who hath been born in his house, they may eatof his bread. And the daughter of a priest, if she be married to a stranger, may not eat of things set apart and hallowed. But if the priest’s daughter be awidow, or divorced, and, having, no child, hath returned to her father’s house,as in her youth, she may eat of her father’s meat; but no stranger shall eatthereof. And if a man eat someconsecrated thing through ignorance, he shall add a fifth unto it, and give theconsecrated thing unto the priest. And let them not profane the hallowed thingsof the children of Israel which are set apart before the Lord, nor bring uponthemselves iniquities and sins, when they eat in uncleanness the things thatare holy. I am the Lord, who sanctify them. And the Lord spakewith Mosheh, saying: Speak with Aharon, and with his sons, and with all thechildren of Israel, and say to them: When any man of the sons of Israel, or ofthe sojourners in Israel, will offer the oblation of any of their vows or anyof their freewill oblations which they may offer before the Lord for a burntsacrifice; that it may be acceptable from you, (let it be) a male withoutblemish, of the bullocks, or of the lambs, or of the goats. But whatever hath ablemish in it you shall not offer, for it will not be acceptable for you. Andif a man present a consecrated victim before the Lord, as a vow set apart, or afreewill offering of the herd or of the flock, it must be perfect, to beacceptable; there shall be no blemish in it. Blind, or broken, or mutilated, orhaving imposthumes, or ulcers, or blotches, these you shall not offer beforethe Lord, nor of them present an oblation upon the altar before the Lord. But abullock or a lamb that hath anything superfluous or deficient you may make afree will offering,[14] <l > but for a vow it will not beacceptable. And that which is crushed, or rent, or worn out, or emasculated, you shall not offer before the Lord, nor do it[15] <l > in your land. Norfrom (the hand of) a son of the Gentiles may you offer an oblation to your Godof any of these, because their corruption is in them, a blemish is in them;they will not be acceptable for you. And the Lord spakewith Mosheh, saying: When a bullock, or lamb, or goat, is brought forth, itshall be seven days with its dam, and on the eighth day and thenceforward itwill be acceptable to be offered as an oblation before the Lord. Whether it bea cow or ewe, ye shall not immolate (both) her and her offspring on one day.And when you present a thank-offering before the Lord, offer it so as tobe acceptable for you. It is to be eaten on that day, nothing shall remain ofit till the morning. I am the Lord. And you shall observe My commandments, anddo them. I am the Lord. Nor shall you profane My holy Name, for I will be hallowedamong the sons of Israel. I am the Lord who sanctify you, who have led youforth from the land of Mizraim to be unto you Eloha: I am the Lord.

And NO WORK3 may youdo on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make an atonement foryou before the Lord your God. For every man who will not humble himself4 on that same day, shall be cut off from hispeople. And any man who doeth any work oil that same day, I will destroy thatman from among his people.
