164. For Men of Literature and Science.

O THOU Fountain of Wisdom, Who givest to all men liberally and upbraidest not; Grant that those on whom Thou hast bestowed intelli gence for the knowledge of earthly things, may have the eyes of their understanding opened to the knowledge of things divine, and so fill them with Thy holy inspiration that they, subjecting their reason to Thine eternal truth, may with purity of heart and integrity of faith both bring to nought the falsehood of men of corrupt mind, and set forward the authority of Thy most holy revelation, to the saving of their own souls, and of others also; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
