Boy’s Letter From Pass Island

Dear Mrs. B., ―I now begin to write you a few lines to let you know that I received your letter and was very pleased to hear from you, and 1 also received my books and was delighted with them, and I was so pleased with the Testament you sent to me, and many thanks for it. I am learning by memory verses.... I am going to school again this winter, if we get a teacher, but don’t know yet if we will… It’s awful here now on Sundays, because there are no services...
