John Gill Bible Commentary
Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law,.... A spiritual understanding; an understanding of the law, the perfection, purity, holiness, and spirituality of it; an understanding of the Gospel, and of Christ and the things of Christ; from whom grace and strength are to be had for the due observance of the law, as in his hands; which understanding must be given, and is a gift of pure, free, rich grace, to such who have it; though they cannot keep the law perfectly, as no mere man can, yet will keep it spiritually, from a principle of love and gratitude, and with a view to the glory of God and Christ, Jo1 5:20; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart; not only externally, and to be seen of men, and get applause from them; but doing the will of God from the heart, and with a good will and heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men; with a sincere affection for him, and with a single eye to his glory, Eph 6:6.

Psalm 119:10
By Brent Yim0PSA 119:10PSA 119:32JHN 15:52CO 12:9EPH 2:8Brent Yim delves into Psalm 119:10, where the psalmist passionately seeks God with his whole heart but acknowledges the struggle of wandering from God's commandments. The psalmist's desperation highlights the realization that human efforts alone cannot sustain obedience to God's word; it is only through God's gracious provision of heavenly protection that one can remain steadfast. This text emphasizes that while a zeal for holiness is crucial, true obedience is only possible through a constant reliance on God's sustaining grace.
Largeness of Heart.
By F.B. Meyer0Spiritual GrowthLove1KI 4:29PSA 119:32JHN 3:16ROM 5:5GAL 5:13EPH 3:17PHP 1:9COL 3:142PE 1:41JN 4:19F.B. Meyer emphasizes the need for a 'largeness of heart' to overcome the narrowness of our souls, which limits our capacity for love and understanding. He reflects on the idea that true freedom and joy come from aligning our will with God's, allowing us to love as He loves. Meyer cites the wisdom of Madame Guyon and Thomas a Kempis, highlighting that sin constricts our hearts, while divine love expands them. He calls upon God to grant us this expansive love, likening it to the vastness of the sea. Ultimately, the sermon encourages believers to seek a heart that mirrors God's boundless love for the world.
